The tentative KCSE 2023 release date is on Friday December 16, 2023. This date is, however, subject to change owing to the fact that before KCSE results are released the President must be briefed first. In case the President has flown out of the country on official errands, the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education Ezekiel Machogu will have no option but to wait for his return. If the President gives a nod and vets the KCSE 2023 results, then the CS Education would have received official permission to usurp his powers and release the results to the general public.

The live release of the KCSE 2023 results will be aired live on all the mainstream media houses. Stay tuned for these and more updates by subscribing to our media channel.

Knec Cp2 Portal now Open to KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Contracted Professionals (Examination Supervisors, Invigilators, and Centre Managers). Check out the application Deadline

Knec Cp2 Portal now Open to KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Contracted Professionals (Examination Supervisors, Invigilators, and Centre Managers). Check out the application Deadline

This year will definitely usher in a different era as far as the administration of national Examinations is concerned. For the very first time, the Kenya National Examinations Council will contract more professionals- supervisors, centre managers and invigilators to man the 2022 KCSE, KCPE and KPSEA national tests. For the next 10 days, the official Knec CP2 portal will remain open until October 10, the official deadline for application for declared KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE 2022 jobs. Click Here to visit the Portal.

This increase is pegged on the influx of the number of candidates this year after the council in collaboration with the ministry of education decided to roll out national tests dubbed KPSEA at grade six starting November 28.

This is good news to teachers who have been thirsting for Knec jobs in vain.

Although the council does not reward the supervisors, invigilators and centre managers handsomely, a flat rate of Kshs. 500 per day is something given that the KPSEA 2022 tests have got multiple choices hence likely to take a shorter time.

The contracted Professionals will therefore work for half a day for a flat rate not exceeding Kshs. 500.

Knec Sets new Requirements for 2022 Contracted Professionals- Centre Managers, Supervisors and Invigilators

Worth noting is the fact that the Council has rolled new requirements for teachers wishing to serve as KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Examiners.

For starters, the teacher should not be on interdiction.

He or she must not be under investigation for any form of indiscipline.

He or she must be TSC registered for accountability purposes.

The above requirements are aimed at ensuring that the integrity of the national examinations is not compromised since if the national Examinations land in the hands of a few rogue individuals, the country may be plunged into a state of lawlessness. Kindly note that the administration of national examinations is a security issue. Therefore, in case you land this job, undertake your duties seriously lest you face criminal judges.

How Knec will pay KPSEA 2022 Centre Managers, Supervisors and Invigilators

Just like the other contracted Professionals, Knec will pay KPSEA 2022 supervisors and invigilators using the details provided on their Knec CP2 portal during the application process.

The most important payment detail is the contracted KPSEA 2022 professional’s phone number. When applying, kindly ensure that you double check your phone never since KNEC will wire the money to your MPESA account once the KPSEA 2022 national examinations results are released.

The table below summarizes the payment rates for the 2022 knec Contracted Professionals:

Contracted Profesional Exam Region Pay Per Day Total Days engaged Total Pay

Centre Manager KCSE All Regions Sh500 18 Sh9,000

Knec grading system calculator

The Kenya National Examination Council ,KNEC, uses a standardized grading system to award marks and evaluate the overall academic performance of students who sit for the KCSE exams annually

Currently, the Knec KCSE results are determined using a 12-point grading system.

The overall grade attained by the candidate in question eventually dictates the level of tertiary institution he or she can join.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the current KCSE grading system.

KNEC recently released the KCSE grading system used during national examinations.

The system is based on a numeric 12-point scale ranging between 1-12 and an elaborated letter grade ranging from A to E then X and Y i.e (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, E, X and Y)

Significance of the Knec grading system for KCSE candidates

C+ is the ‘pass’ grade that determines the cut-off points for students joining universities on full government sponsorship.

Given the nature of most Kenyan households, students struggle to attain grade C+ to save their parents from incurring tertiary education tuition fees.

Besides, the majority of employers consider grades C to E insignificant owing to the rising literacy levels and stiff competition for limited white job opportunities. Most candidates who score the aforementioned grades however get placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS, in technical and vocational institutions.

A is the best grade a student can strive to get. It takes a mixture of grades A- to B- for a student to enroll in a good university.

It also measures the competence levels achieved by learners at the end of the four-year course.

Until recently, KNEC used the grading system as a comparative tool of weighing students abilities.

The paradigm shift in the KNEC Grading System

Until recently, KNEC used the grading system as a comparative tool of weighing students abilities.

However, the Council turned a new leaf. This has greatly changed the general perception of exams and the entire learning process.

Students can henceforth use the system to determine their next learning steps. For example, students who score B+ in Biology, Mathematics, and English can choose to learn medicine at the university.

How Knec uses the Grading System to award missing marks and detected leakages

Sitting or registering for KNEC KCSE exams does not guarantee a grade, A student can sit for the national examinations but KNEC may not award the student a mean grade for any of the following reasons: This can happen if a student does not meet the minimum requirements for being awarded a certificate or if Knec detects cheating in exams.

In the above instances, a candidate will be awarded as follows:

U – it indicates a candidate has not met the criteria for a certificate award

W – it indicates KNEC has withheld a candidate’s results for various reasons

X – it indicates a candidate was not present throughout the exams

Y – it indicates KNEC has canceled a candidate’s results because of irregularities

Z – it indicates a candidate has not met the registration requirements

How the KNEC grading system works

KNEC grades candidates who sit for 7 or more KCSE subjects during the national examinations.

The examinations’ council puts all subjects into five categories. These groups include:

Group I – These are compulsory subjects all students must sit for during exams. They include English (101), Kiswahili (102), and Mathematics (121).

Group II – The group consists of four science subjects. However, a student must sit for at least two subjects during the exams. They include Biology (231), Physics (232), Chemistry (233), and General Science (237).

Group III – The group consists of five humanities subjects. A student must sit for at least one subject during the exams. They include History and Government (311), Geography (312), Christian Religious Education (313), Islamic Religious Education (314), and Hindu Religious Education (315).

Group IV – There are eleven subjects in this group. The subjects include: Home Science (411), Art and Design (442), Agriculture (443), Woodwork (444), Metalwork (445), Building Construction (446), Power Mechanics (447), Electricity (448), Drawing and Design (449), Aviation Technology (450), and Computer Studies (451).

Group V – The groups consists of subjects from languages and business studies. They include French (501), German (502), Arabic (503), Kenya Sign Language (504), Music (511), and Business Studies (565).

A student can choose the seventh subject from Group II or Groups III, IV or V. To get a mean grade based on the KCSE grading system , KNEC averages a student’s score in all the seven (7) subjects.

During the marking of KCSE examinations, KNEC does not give candidates a percentage mark to get a particular grade.

Instead, they publish KCSE grades and points to indicate the general performance of students.

The examinations body sets grades by combining expert judgment and statistics to come on an agreeable grade boundary.

Exam papers are not the same. They vary in difficulty. As such, the experts set grade boundaries to reflect the current performance of all students. The purpose is to ensure candidates do not get lower grades just because they sat for more difficult papers than previous years’. After agreeing on grade boundaries, KNEC applies them to students’ marks to give them a grade.

KCSE examinersare teachers experienced in respective subjects. The examinations body selects them carefully and trains them before they can mark the exams. It is essential that they use the same standards when marking the exams so that KNEC can award students the right grades.

Before schools can receive the results, senior examiners conduct final checks on all the marking. The purpose is to ensure no errors and that the standards were met during the marking of the exams.

The Kenya National Examinations Council does not use percentages in the grading system. They replace them with letter grades to create a mean grade. Kenyan universities do not use percentages from KCSE results when enrolling students too. Instead, they use the mean grade to determine a student’s rank in the concluded exams. This strategy means that the KCSE grading system gives a better measure of a student’s performance than the traditional marking system.

KNEC Launches July KCSE Exam Series and Innovative Tools for Visually Impaired Students

KNEC Launches July KCSE Exam Series and Innovative Tools for Visually Impaired Students

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the launch of the July series for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang introduced exciting new features, including the Orbit Readers designed for visually impaired candidates and the implementation of e-assessment for the KCSE Computer Studies exam.

Kipsang emphasized that these initiatives are geared towards improving the administration of national examinations and fostering inclusivity among all students.

This additional examination window is crafted to offer candidates more flexibility, allowing them to select a schedule that aligns with their academic readiness.

During the announcement of the 2024 KCSE results, Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos revealed that the mid-year exams will kick off in July 2025, with results anticipated in August.

“This initiative provides a valuable chance for those looking to enhance their previous KCSE scores or for individuals who were unable to sit for the exams due to unforeseen circumstances,” stated the CS.

Kipsang highlighted that the introduction of Orbit Readers for visually impaired candidates will significantly boost inclusivity, enabling these students to engage more effectively in their examinations and assessments.

The Orbit Reader functions as a braille display, book reader, and note-taker, alleviating the stress of exams for visually impaired learners.

Additionally, the KCSE Computer Studies Examination will now be conducted through an electronic assessment format, reflecting the advancements in the digital realm and ensuring that candidates are well-versed in modern computing environments.

KNEC has organized a series of online briefings and sensitization sessions with key stakeholders to facilitate the smooth implementation of these changes.

These meetings aim to ensure a seamless transition to the new examination formats and the effective use of assistive technologies, underscoring the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality and accessibility of education across Kenya.

Stakeholders are encouraged to actively engage in these upcoming meetings, with access links and further details to be shared a day before each session.

The Ministry of Education’s recent initiatives underscore its commitment to improving educational quality and accessibility in Kenya, ensuring that every learner, regardless of their situation, has an equal chance to thrive.
