KCPE 2020: latest news on Knec results release 2021; Education CS Professor George Magoha has issued a crucial update on the KCPE 2020 knec  exams which were concluded last week.

Speaking to the press on Monday March 29,  Magoha gave an update on the progress of marking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam sheets.

The CS  confirmed that marking of their papers had already began and nearly 50 per cent of the scripts had already been marked.

He stated that KCPE 2020 exam marking is at 35% since Kiswahili Insha and English Composition Knec Examiners were yet to report to the selected  Knec marking centres.

This means that the over 1 million KCPE 2020 candidates should expect results soon.

Prof. Magoha spoke while supervising the collection of exam papers for the ongoing KCSE 2020/2021 exams.

He further urged centre managers to ensure they use school buses to collect and drop exams from containers hence discouraging them from using private vehicles or motorcycles.

The examinations council has also made arrangements on how the 2020 KCPE Knec Examiners will be ferried to their designated marking centres in 2021. Read the article below for full details

Knec invites 2022 examiners to take up available 2022 examiner vacancies per subject at the knec portal

The Kenya National examinations Council, KNEC, has officially announced the 2022 deployment of KCPE and KCSE examiners this month.

The KCPE 2022 examiners have been given priority in the 2022 KNEC examiners’ recruitment now that the ongoing KCPE 2021 exams are set to end tomorrow. The 2021-202 KCPE has already entered day two with candidates expected to sit for Science, Kiswahili Lugha, and Kiswahili Insha papers today. The candidates have already completed the first batch comprising of Mathematics, English Language, and English Composition papers.

The 2021 KCPE examination officially comes to closure on Wednesday with over 1.2 million sitting for their Social Studies paper.

2022 KNEC Deployment letters for KCPE examiners

Now that the English Composition and Kiswahili Insha papers are ready for marking, the 2022 KCPE examiners have been directed to proceed to the knec examiners app online starting March 4, 2022, and arm themselves with their passports (letters) to the Knec marking centers in Nairobi.

The KNEC 2022 invitation letters for markers are comparable to a passport since examiners without the letter cannot be granted access to the KNEC marking centers on the reporting dates indicated on the letters.

CONTENTS OF THE KNEC EXAMINERS’ INVITATION LETTERS 2022

The 2022 Knec examiners’ invitation for marking letter contains the examiners’ full details such as the name, gender, and age.

They also indicate the current Knec payment rates, terms, and conditions for deployment as an examiner.

The examiners are therefore expected to commit themselves by signing a declaration that they will uphold the highest levels of integrity during and after the marking exercise. If the 2022 KCPE examiners agree to adhere to the strict guidelines provided by the council in the invitation letter, then they can proceed to declare that they have read and understood the terms and conditions before hitting the download button to access and print their 2022 KNEC invitation letter.

OFFICIAL REPORTING DATES FOR 2022 EXAMINERS

The tentative reporting date for 2022 Knec examiners is before March 14, 2022. Kindly check the official reporting dates for all KCPE 2022 examiners indicated on the Knec examiners’ invitation letters since at times the reporting dates differ depending on the KCPE exam that the examiner has been offered a chance to mark.

NEW VENUES/ MARKING CENTERS FOR 2022 KCPE MARKING

Kindly note that the marking venues for KCPE exams remain the same although the examiners keep on moving from one marking center to another. Therefore, do not make assumptions. Kindly confirm the marking center for English Composition and Kiswahili Insha before proceeding with the marking exercise on the official reporting date on your invitation letter.

Important notes for 2022-2023 Knec Examiners

Vacancies for 2022 KNEC KCPE/KCSE Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE at the knec-examiners-app

The 2022 KCPE and KCSE Knec examiners will be competitively selected from all 8 regions and the 47 counties in Kenya. Qualified teachers are expected to apply for the available 42, 000 slots for KCSE examiners and 7, 000 slots for KCPE examiners this year before the given deadline via the https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke/

The 2022-2023 KNEC Examiners vacancies will be competitively filled this year and only teachers who meet the minimum qualifications below will be granted access to apply.

KNEC examiners vacancies 2022-2023 selection criteria/ legibility

Reporting Dates for 2022 KNEC KCPE/KCSE Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE

Any teacher applying for the 2022 KNEC Examiners Vacancies for KCPE/ KCSE marking must

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen
  2. Possess a valid national identification card.
  3. Be TSC Registered
  4. Not be on TSC interdiction for any indiscipline cases
  5. Possess a valid KNEC registration Certificate for all examiners who have completed the KNEC training modules for all examiners.

Kindly note that only invited examiners only will be allowed to access the marking centers on the reporting dates indicated on the invitation letters.

Examiners who will not be able to access the examiners’ portal and download their invitation letters are therefore advised to keep off the marking venues since trying to access the marking centers is an errand of futility. KNEC invites and selects examiners based on their performance during KNEC training. The top performers are given opportunities first since they are likely to deliver more credible results.

REPORTING DATES AND TIMING FOR 2022 KNEC EXAMINERS

Given the throat-cutting competition for the limited Knec examiners’ vacancies, invited KCPE/ KCSE examiners are therefore advised to strictly adhere to the timelines indicated on the KNEC Examiners’ invitation letters 2022-2023.

The official reporting time is 2:00 P.M. for all KNEC examiners. Kindly note that the reporting dates differ from one KCSE script to the other since the papers have got different demands.

More demanding KCSE papers like English paper 3 Eng 101/3 require more time while marking since examiners have to peruse through at least three compositions per candidate. These examiners therefore will report to their designated marking centers a few days after the candidates sit for their last KCSE examination paper in early April.

Examiners who fail to turn up on the official reporting date and time indicated in the invitation letter will be disqualified.

PAYMENT RATES, DATES, AND TIME FOR 2022 KNEC EXAMINERS

The 2022 KNEC Payment rates per day remain constant this year. Therefore 2022 KCPE and KCSE examiners will receive Kshs 150 per day for co-ordination of the marking schemes for the first few days.

The KNEC payment rates per script range from Kshs 51 to Kshs 77 depending on the length and demands of the paper. English paper three examiners are the highest-paid Knec examiners in the latest KNEC examiners’ payment rates per paper 2020-2021.

The 2022-2023 KNEC Examiners payment rates may be revised subject to the availability of funds at the council.

Knec Marking Centres for 2022 Examiners marking the 2021 KCPE/ KCSE this year

The marking centers for this year’s KCPE and KCSE examinations are usually indicated in the invitation letters. They vary from one year to the other. The good news is that all KCSE and KCPE KNEC marking centers are distributed across secondary schools with better amenities within the Nairobi Cosmopolitan area. Last year, the KNEC Marking centers were as follows:

KCPE, KCSE 2021- 2022 Examinations: 8-4-4 learners to sit four exams as CBC pioneers enter key grade

KCPE, KCSE 2022 Examinations: 8-4-4 learners to sit four exams as CBC pioneers enter key grade

In a nutshell: Tension High as Knec prepares to conduct four key Examinations: two KCPE and two KCSE national exams. Check out the 2022 academic calendar and examination dates below

KCPE, KCSE 2022 Examinations: 8-4-4 learners to sit four exams as CBC pioneers enter key grade

Two separate sets of national examinations will be administered this year as the country embraces new education reforms ahead of next year’s transition.

One group of candidates under the 8-4-4 education system will be striving to get the most of the 100 per cent marks during the national tests to be administered in March and December.

And the other group of candidates, the pioneer Grade Six under the 2-6-3-3-3 education system, will be seeking to top up 40 per cent of the marks during their December tests.

The rest of the marks – 60 per cent – for the CBC pioneer class will have been awarded by teachers through school-based assessments administered at grades Four, Five and Six.

Toughest school year for parents and learners as cost of supplies up

This is a tougher year for schools; play your part to make learning successful

The 8-4-4 candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in March and December.

The first 2021 KCPE examinations will be done between March 7 and 10, while the Form Four candidates will sit theirs from March 11 to April 1 this year.

In December, Class Eight candidates will again sit this year’s national examinations between November 28 and December 1. The second set of KCSE exams will be administered from December 1 to December 23.

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) pioneer class, now in Grade Five, will move to Grade Six in April, the final primary education study year before transiting to junior high schools.

According to the revised calendar, the ongoing third term ends on March 4.

This year’s academic year starts on April 25, with the first term running until July 1.

Second term will resume on July 11 and will run until September 16, while the final term will run between September 26 and November 25.

The Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) is yet to release the examination timetable for the Grade Six candidates.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, however, announced that the tests will be done in December this year.

Under CBC, teachers are expected to conduct classroom and school-based assessments from grades One to Three.

At Grade Three, Knec is expected to develop standardised assessment tools to be administered, scored and feedback given to individual learners by teachers in their respective schools.

The schools will then submit the results for each learner in a designated format to Knec to facilitate analysis of achievement of competencies at national level.

The report from the national examiner will guide the teachers receiving the transition Grade Four and advise the Teachers Service Commission in developing content for continuous professional development.

Across the school assessments, teachers use tools such as written tests, observation schedules, assessment rubrics, project portfolios, checklists, questionnaires, oral/aural questioning, anecdotal records and journals.

For grades Four, Five and Six, school-based assessments assist in informing mastery of competencies and readiness of learners to transition, and provide feedback to stakeholders such as learners, parents, teachers in subsequent grades and curriculum developers.

Knec Chief Executive David Njengere said the pioneer CBC learners sat school-based assessments, which will be computed to 60 per cent.

“These learners sat assessments at Grade Four and Grade Five each constituting 20 marks. They will also sit another assessment at Grade Six for 20 marks. This cumulatively will be 60 marks,” he said.

The candidates end of primary school tests will only comprise 40 per cent.

This means Grade Six learners will not only sit the school-based assessments this year, but will also write a national examination at the end of their primary school education in December.

The summative assessment is prompted by the need to allow learners from across the country to access schools, which have superior infrastructure and a culture of good performance, thus enhancing equity.

In the Competency Based Assessments framework, teachers will play a key role in administering and scoring the learners.

Knec is only expected provide samples of new assessments, provide assessment tools and related rubrics and monitor the administration and scoring to ensure credibility.

Some educationists have, however, expressed concern over the new powers teachers have been handed to determine the future of children.

They argue that teachers may abuse their powers to propel some schools for commercial gains, or award fictitious marks that may be detrimental on a child’s growth.

“We have seen teachers and even principals working hard to beat the security measures to leak the KCPE and KCSE examinations. If they can do this under the present tight circumstances where they even face jail terms and loss of jobs, what if they are in charge?” said Emmanuel Manyasa, Usawa Agenda executive director.

“How will we trust the teachers to fairly score the learners, given that they will literally determine whether your child passes or fails in the basic stages of learning?”

Njengere, however, said assessment results submitted by teachers have displayed a normal curve.

He said Knec has mechanisms of identifying anomalies on marks awarded by teachers.
