Machakos Pastor sells church Instruments to mitigate biting effects of the coronavirus pandemic, details below

Machakos Pastor sells church Instruments to mitigate biting effects of the coronavirus pandemic, details below

A Machakos based man of God has committed iniquity before God and man after he resorted to selling church instruments to shield himself from the biting effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The pastor who hails from Missuni area in Machakos allegedly sold several musical instruments after the Coronavirus Pandemic paralyzed his operations.

He started the church four years ago and was lucky to win over souls that have stood by him until the pandemic came knocking.

According to the Daily Nation, church members put their best foot forward to expand their church. They even set aside money for the purchase of the instruments that have now been sold.

No tithes and offerings

Ever since President Uhuru banned all forms of gatherings including church services, pastors and other religious leaders have been through a rough time given that there are no tithes or offerings forthcoming.

Many religious organizations have been forced to shut down some of their operations. Therefore, selling church instruments or even property is not far-fetched.

Deserted church

When church members learnt of their pastor’s “sins,” they vowed not to return to church once the Covid 19 pandemic ceases.

“There is nothing we can do at the moment since church services have been banned. However, we will not go back to the church once things normalize,” said one of the members.

Maids are not Doormats, Justice Nderi Reaffirms; Check out the New Conditions for Hiring and Firing Househelps

Maids are not Doormats, Justice Nderi Reaffirms; Check out the New Conditions for Hiring and Firing House helps

Maids are not Doormats, Justice Nderi Reaffirms

Are you the type who hires and fires house helps based on your mood swings?

Before I proceed, how much do you pay your maid?

If you have a house- help in your home, it is high time you reconsidered your actions and decisions.

For decades now, employers have been underpaying, mistreating, and dismissing house helps without formal notice.

Justice Nderi’s ruling on a case where an employer fired a maid who requested a pay raise might be a game-changer in this circus.

This is after the court ruled in favor of the house help and ordered her employer to give her Kshs 270 000 as compensation for unfair dismissal and meager pay.

According to the complainant, her employer had been paying her Kshs 3000 a month. When she requested to have her wages increased, her boss fired her without notice. That is when she filed a court case to protest against unfair dismissal and low pay.

Maureen Muhani, the house help got hired as a house help in February 2015. After serving for two years, she asked her boss Bhingi to increase her pay.

To her utter disappointment, her boss was greatly angered and fired her the next day.

New Conditions

In his ruling, Justice Nderi gave new Conditions for employers wishing to recruit house helps.

To start with, the maid must be paid a minimum of Ksh 10000 a month.

Secondly, upon dismissal, the employer must issue the house help with a one month notice indicating the termination of the contract.

The boss must also give the house help a certificate of service for the period she has served.

The maid should also be given terminal benefits once the contract is terminated.

“It is illegal to fire an employee, maids included without formal notice, certificate of service, and terminal benefits,” said Justice Nderi in his ruling.

But How Realistic are these conditions?

Although his ruling seems quite reasonable, it is wise to take a moment and reflect upon reality.

When Justice Nderi proposes a monthly pay of not less than Ksh 10000 and other terminal benefits, most Kenyans who seek the services of the house helps barely earn Ksh 20000.

That is why the labor court suggested a monthly pay of Ksh 7000, a negotiable amount pegged upon the employer employee’s agreement.

Secondly, Justice Nderi is proposing terminal benefits that most Kenyans do not have.

Currently, the government is planning to roll out a Public Service Pension Scheme that will see civil servants contribute 7.5% of their salaries towards their retirement plan.

Does this mean that house helps should contribute towards their terminal benefits too?

Lastly, we also have numerous cases of the house- helps deciding to quit jobs without issuing a formal notice to their employers.

In such cases, will the maids be compelled to compensate their bosses for the inconveniences?

2020 KCSE & KCPE EXAMS CANCELLED: EDUCATION BREAKING NEWS

2020 KCSE & KCPE EXAMS CANCELLED: EDUCATION BREAKING NEWS

There will be no national exams for candidates in the year 2020.

This follows CS Magoha’s announcement today at the KICD offices at a press briefing on the reopening of schools and the new school calendar for the year 2020.

This, therefore, means that all candidates who had registered with the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE will have to repeat classes when learning resumes in January 2021.

The decision was arrived at after several consultations involving key education stakeholders and representatives from the Ministry of Health.

2020 SCHOOL CALENDAR/ACADEMIC YEAR

CS Magoha also said that the 2020 school calendar has been written off following the unprecedented spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

Present at the press briefing were union officials led by KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion, KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori, TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, and the Kenya Parents Association Boss Nicholas Maiyo.

All the afore-mentioned stakeholders were given a chance to express their opinions on the matter before the CS addressed the nation.

The stakeholders backed the education ministry’s move to extend the schools’ reopening date until January 2021, when the covid-19 curve would have flattened.

TVET institutions and colleges were however allowed to reopen in September but they will have to strictly adhere to the given guidelines first.

“All institutions allowed to reopen must comply with covid-19 regulations or risk closure,” said the CS.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS

The new school calendar applies to international and private schools too.

Most international schools have been facilitating online classes for their learners through Zoom and Google classrooms with the hope that schools will reopen soon.

This has been a source of conflict between the schools and parents who feel that they should not meet the cost of online learning.

Now that the CS has announced a new academic calendar for schools offering international curriculum, the schools and parents will have to reach a middle ground in as far as the payment of school fees is concerned.

NANCY MACHARIA’S FIRST SPEECH

The newly reappointed TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia was also given a chance to speak today on behalf of the Teachers Service Commission.

The CEO appreciated the crucial roles played by teachers in the education sector.

She thanked them for their continued support in ensuring that learners access content virtually.

She further insisted that the Commission is concerned about the safety of both learners and teachers.

Dr. Macharia categorically stated that there is no way the Commission can allow teachers to resume duty before proper psychological preparation.

Besides, teachers who have clocked 58 and those with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes who are classified as vulnerable will have to be taken care of before schools reopen.

Knec Cp2 Portal now Open to KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Contracted Professionals (Examination Supervisors, Invigilators, and Centre Managers). Check out the application Deadline

Knec Cp2 Portal now Open to KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Contracted Professionals (Examination Supervisors, Invigilators, and Centre Managers). Check out the application Deadline

This year will definitely usher in a different era as far as the administration of national Examinations is concerned. For the very first time, the Kenya National Examinations Council will contract more professionals- supervisors, centre managers and invigilators to man the 2022 KCSE, KCPE and KPSEA national tests. For the next 10 days, the official Knec CP2 portal will remain open until October 10, the official deadline for application for declared KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE 2022 jobs. Click Here to visit the Portal.

This increase is pegged on the influx of the number of candidates this year after the council in collaboration with the ministry of education decided to roll out national tests dubbed KPSEA at grade six starting November 28.

This is good news to teachers who have been thirsting for Knec jobs in vain.

Although the council does not reward the supervisors, invigilators and centre managers handsomely, a flat rate of Kshs. 500 per day is something given that the KPSEA 2022 tests have got multiple choices hence likely to take a shorter time.

The contracted Professionals will therefore work for half a day for a flat rate not exceeding Kshs. 500.

Knec Sets new Requirements for 2022 Contracted Professionals- Centre Managers, Supervisors and Invigilators

Worth noting is the fact that the Council has rolled new requirements for teachers wishing to serve as KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE Examiners.

For starters, the teacher should not be on interdiction.

He or she must not be under investigation for any form of indiscipline.

He or she must be TSC registered for accountability purposes.

The above requirements are aimed at ensuring that the integrity of the national examinations is not compromised since if the national Examinations land in the hands of a few rogue individuals, the country may be plunged into a state of lawlessness. Kindly note that the administration of national examinations is a security issue. Therefore, in case you land this job, undertake your duties seriously lest you face criminal judges.

How Knec will pay KPSEA 2022 Centre Managers, Supervisors and Invigilators

Just like the other contracted Professionals, Knec will pay KPSEA 2022 supervisors and invigilators using the details provided on their Knec CP2 portal during the application process.

The most important payment detail is the contracted KPSEA 2022 professional’s phone number. When applying, kindly ensure that you double check your phone never since KNEC will wire the money to your MPESA account once the KPSEA 2022 national examinations results are released.

The table below summarizes the payment rates for the 2022 knec Contracted Professionals:

TSC posts intern teachers as more lined up for employment

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has started to post intern teachers it recruited this month to schools.

Though there were rumours TSC would delay and post the recruited teachers in January 2022, sources have revealed a plan to post more teachers starting next week.

The Commission advertised 1,995 teacher internship posts in September 2021 where 1,038 posts went to primary schools and 957 posts to secondary schools.

TSC said the recruitment of the intern teachers was in support of the Governments initiative to develop a pool of young talents for the Kenyan Labour Market.

TSC Internship programme is a short term programme lasting one year that supports efforts by teacher training institutions to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering teaching service.

Interns attached to primary schools get a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000/= while those in secondary schools get Kshs. 20,000/=.

The recruitment of intern teachers is meant to address severe teacher shortage in schools.

TSC also extended internship for 4,005 teachers whose one year term was to end in December 2021.

The Commission had outlined its plan of employing at least 6,000 intern teachers by December 2021.

According to TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia the additional employees would ease teachers’ workload as enrollment rises, particularly due to the government’s 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school policy.

“This is a commendable government effort to ensure quality learning and teaching in our public schools,” said Macharia.

Macharia said the recruitment of 6,000 teachers on internship will cost the Commission kshs 1.2 billion.

She said TSC is more concerned with the workload brought by the 100 per cent transition policy and commended the government for allocating more funds for recruiting more teachers.

“We appreciate the government for allocating TSC funds annually for the recruitment of additional teachers since the 100 per cent transition programme was launched,” said Nancy Macharia.

However of the 6,000 internship vacancies only 2,000 will go to primary schools while the rest 4,000 will be reserved for secondary schools.

Last year TSC recruited 12,000 intern teachers under the Covid-19 economic stimulus package at a cost of Sh2.4 billion.

During the recruitment TSC highlighted the following requirements for one to be eligible for internship.

To qualify, an applicant must at the time of application meet the following basic requirements:

TSC News Today: KUPPET Issues 7-Day Ultimatum For TSC To Effect 30-75% Teacher’s Pay Increase

Tension has reigned supreme at the TSC headquarters following the latest declaration made by KUPPET boss this week. According to Akelo Misori, more than 242,000 teachers who have been contracted by Knec to invigilate, supervise and mark the 2021 KCSE and KCPE national exams set to be conducted this March/ April may down their tools and paralyze the exams this year if the salary raise demands are not met by TSC.

Teachers have threatened to strike in response to their employer’s failure to honor their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), a move that could jeopardize national exams scheduled for March.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) issued a strike notice on Wednesday, February 23, after their demand for new salary negotiations failed to take off.

The teachers’ representative argued that the seven-day strike notice would be implemented if the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) refused to reopen negotiations on their 2021-2025 CBA.

According to KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori, the union wrote to TSC on January 17 demanding that the CBA be reopened within 21 days.

“Upon the expiry of the 21 days, the union said it would review the commission’s response before convening its organs to give further directions on the next course of action,” Misori stated

He added, “all the commission has done is to acknowledge our letter and promise to respond at a later stage after ‘interrogating’ the contents.”

TSC’s failure to engage them, according to the KUPPET Secretary-General, has forced them to call for mass action.

In the CBA, the union proposed a 30% to 70% raise for all teachers in the country.

“In the absence of a clear-cut commitment to re-open the talks, we have no idea how long the interrogation might take and our members do not have the patience to wait any longer for a salary review,” he remarked.

Teachers were outraged when the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) signed a non-monetary CBA with TSC. The union, led by Secretary-General Collins Oyuu, began negotiations to end the standoff.

In their proposal, KUPPET requested that teachers’ commuter allowance be increased from Ksh5,000 to Ksh8,000 and that the lowest-paid teacher’s salary be increased from Ksh16,000 to Ksh20,8000.

However, the CBA has not been honored because talks with TSC have yet to begin.

If the strike is not called off, it will begin just days before the start of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

The KCPE exams are set to begin from March 7 to 10, paving the way for the KCSE, which is set to begin on March 11.

UON don arrested after allegedly leaking end of semester law exams to a third year student

UON DON SUSPENDED AFTER ALLEGEDLY LEAKING END OF SEMESTER LAW EXAMINATIONS TO A THIRD YEAR STUDENT

HOW EFFECTIVE IS OUR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION SYSTEM?

A university don at the UON school of law has been suspended following claims that he leaked end of semester exams to a third year UON law student who later shared the leaked examination materials with some of his classmates.

According to Professor Kiarie Mwaura the UON School of Law Dean, the lecturer has since been suspended to allow further investigations.

Professor Mwaura further said that this is the first exam malpractice incident to be reported at the University of Nairobi.

This incident raises eyebrows and paints the university in bad light given its clean past record.

Besides, the University of Nairobi is the best university in Kenya.

Therefore, any suspected cases of examination irregularities in such a reputable institution does raise questions about the effectiveness of our education system.

STGs

This is a common phrase that you get to learn once you step foot in many Kenyan Universities.

This acronym stands for Sexually Transmitted Grades.

This acronym suggests there are some university students who earn undeserved grades by trading their goodies.

Other critics describe it using a very derogatory term  the ‘Bottom up’ approach.

Greed

In other instances, cases of lecturers trying to use unorthodox means to enrich themselves have been reported.

Such dons give university students undeserved grades in exchange for money.

This explains the myth surrounding first class honours in Universities.

The question is, what could have been the motive behind these allegations?

TSC: Mass vaccination of over 200 000 teachers against Covid-19 Kicks off today

TSC: Mass vaccination of over 200 000 teachers against Covid-19 launched

TSC: Mass vaccination of over 200 000 teachers against Covid-19 Kicks off today

Mass vaccination of teachers countrywide against the novel Covid-19 pandemic is set to kick off today.

Officials at the TSC headquarters are expected to be at the forefront, receiving Covid-19 jabs during the official launch at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) headquarters in Nairobi.

Besides senior TSC officials,  key officers from the Ministry of Health will also take part in the  exercise.

Teachers to be vaccinated ahead of KCPE/KCSE 2020 national exams

The vaccination drive comes barely two weeks to the official launch of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education  national tests, which will be overseen by more than 200,000 teachers.

Representatives of the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (Kepsha) and the Kenya Secondary School Heads Associations are expected to  witness  the launching of the exercise today.

Kepsha chair wants older teachers and those with underlying risk factors vaccinated first

When Kepsha learnt about the government’s plans to roll out mass vaccination, its chair  Mr. Johnson Nzioka gave a proposal  that older teachers and those with pre-existing conditions be given priority.

In one of the interviews, Mr Nzioka noted that Kepsha had lost a significant number of members to the novel coronavirus that has continued to ravage the education sector and the country at large.

He also noted that there were approximately 30,000 school administrators who should be next in line, arguing that the heads interact with teachers and other key stakeholders including parents, suppliers and random members of the community whenever they come to seek services.

Therefore, incase the government runs out of sufficient vaccines for the 350,000 teachers in the country, Kepsha proposes a phased roll out, with proper mapping out of high risk staff.

As of November 2020, public primary and secondary schools had a total of 25,000 falling within the high-risk bracket-teachers aged 58 and above.

In line with the government’s Covid-19 management plan, most of these teachers indicated readiness to work from home as from January 2021.

An additional 12,000 are above 59 and therefore due to retire by June 30, 2021.

The roll-out of the mass vaccination is timed to coincide with the start of secondary and primary school leaving examinations.

“The congestion that occurs at the containers during collection and drop-off of examination materials poses a high infection risk for teachers and vaccination will help build teachers’ confidence,” said Nzioka.

Some 1,088,986 candidates will sit KCPE, while another 699,745 will sit KCPE exams.

Unlike in the past, the exams were moved from the traditional October-November period to March-April following heightened school closures to mitigate the spread of the pandemic.
