BREAKING NEWS: TEACHER ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS STANDARD EIGHT PUPIL- COME-LOVER AND HER TEN-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER WHOM HE ALLEGEDLY SIRED AFTER A “BITTER-SWEET” ENCOUNTER

A primary school teacher, Eric Otieno Ooko, of Gethsemane Academy located on Mfangano Island has been charged with the murder of a standard eight girl and her 10-month-old daughter who he allegedly sired.

Mr Otieno of Gethsemane Academy located on Mfangano Island in Mbita Sub-County was arraigned in a Homa Bay-based High Court yesterday where he was charged with the murder of her alleged lover Rihana Nafula and daughter Everlyn Aoko, “their” daughter.

Mr Otieno was accused of orchestrating the death of Rihanna and her daughter Everlyn at Seka B village in Mbita Sub County between 21st October 2019 and 26th October 2019.

DEFILEMENT CHARGES
The teacher, Mr Otieno was also accused of defiling his baby mother, Rihanna last year.
It is through this defilement that the teacher is suspected of impregnating The 13-year-old Rihanna.

VULNERABLE
The 13-year-old minor was a vulnerable child being hosted by the school.
According to DCI reports, the teacher killed Rihanna and buried her body in a shallow grave near his home.

Mr Ooko also strangled Everlyn and dumped her body in a nearby bush within the village.

The bodies were discovered by a resident of the village.

OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE
According to Sang, the teacher murdered the two to interfere with the key witnesses in a defilement case he was facing at Mbita Law Court.

Rihanna left her cousin’s house in Sindo Township to attend an antenatal clinic but never returned.

Rihanna and her daughter Everlyn’s absence in court led to the withdrawal of the defilement case but the teacher was still charged with conspiracy to interfere with witnesses.

He was to appear in court on April 11 but he did not. This led to the court issuing an arrest warrant.

Mr Ooko further fled his village after the discovery of the two bodies but he was arrested in Kisumu.

The teacher denied the charges and pleaded with the court to release him on bond.

Justice Karanja denied him the bond on account that he will interfere with witnesses.

The case’s next hearing will be on 6TH April 2020.

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua on Mulamwah’s “Friends to the Rescue” Back to Comedy Plan

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua on Mulamwah’s “Friends to the Rescue” Back to Comedy Plan

Comedian Mulamwah has announced his comeback into the world of comedy.

Five days ago, Mulamwah through his Instagram account announced his departure from the world of comedy.

He even staged a video of himself burning his comedy attire following the negative energy on social media from fans and rival comedians.

Not so soon

Mulamwah’s decision however caught the attention of many Kenyans who encouraged him to pick up the pieces and forge forward. After all, life is a stream full of murky waters that each person must wade through to survive.

Coming to Mulamwah’s aid was the Kenya Film Classification Board’s Boss Dr. Ezekiel Mutua who promised to mentor the comedian and help him back to his feet once more.

“I hear that twitterates are driving@mulamwah out of comedy into depression. Bro, you are a too talented man. Pick yourself up and give me a call. I will buy you a new shirt, mentor you and make you an ambassador of clean content. The best way to deal with cyber bullies is to refuse to give up!” wrote Dr Mutua.

It now seems that Mulamwah is a very keen listener, humble enough to heed good advice.

Yes. Mulamwah is back, doing what he loves most-comedy.

Announcing his come-back on Instagram, Mulamwah appreciated everyone who came through for him.

“Back like we never left. Nasema tu asante kwa everyone that came through for me, sitaweza kumention wote but asanteni sana,” wrote Mulamwah.

KCPE 2023 Results Release Date, How To Get Results via 40054

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, 2023 results will be released today on Thursday, 24th November at Mtihani House in Nairobi.

The exams have been released this week to allow for the placement of Form One students before Christmas and give parents ample time to prepare for school fees amid harsh economic times that have seen the cost of living rise.

KNEC CEO, Dr David Njengere, MBS, presided over the closing ceremony for KCPE English Composition and Kiswahili Insha marking exercise at St. Geroge’s Girls Secondary School, Nairobi, on Saturday evening.

Dr Njengere commended the teachers for the great work in steering KCPE exam since its inception to this moment of transition to the CBC curriculum. “You are the real heroes of 8-4-4 system and we appreciate you. We now urge and depend on you to similarly run CBC successfully.”

On 10th November, Education PS Belio Kipsang said that the marking of the KCPE exam had kicked off with the results expected out on 30th November.

Education PS Belio was speaking after visiting Naivasha Girls Secondary School, the PS lauded head teachers for the work they had done during the national exams.

“We expect the results out early so that placement of students in form one can be done before Christmas to allow parents ample time to prepare,” he said

At the same time, Kipsang downplayed the recent cases of KCSE exam malpractices adding that only seven center managers have been suspended. He attributed the low number of exams cheating this year to the move to collect exam papers twice a day and the support from the Ministries of Interior and ICT.

“We noticed that there was exposure of the exam materials when collected once and hence the directive to collect them twice in a day,” he said.

This year, at least 360,000 candidates sat the KCPE examination for the first time in 1985, ushering in the 8-4-4 system. Close to four decades later, the focus turns to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), where learners will be assessed through a new education system, CBC.

TSC finally confesses about overwhelming number of 2020 recruitment applicants

TSC confesses about overwhelming number of 2020 recruitment applicants

Following the harsh economic times ushered in by the Covid-19 pandemic that has continued to unleash terror in many nations, teachers have vowed to make hay while the sun shines.

This is after most private school teachers who have gone without salary for seven months now decided to combat for the limited TSC slots with the hope of scooping the available teaching positions in Kenya.

The teachers who have been accustomed to a sedentary lifestyle following the huge salaries they draw from international private schools have been forced to go for the meagre pay that TSC offers.

Consequently, the TSC online job application portal is “bursting at the seams.”

Could this be the reason behind the postponement of 2020 TSC Interviews two times now?

The government has come to the rescue of the BOM teachers across the country. It has paid many teachers who have been officially registered by tsc. Those who had no TSC Numbers have been unlucky. While appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education,CS Professor Magoha confirmed that actually these teachers were not paid.

Recently, the government announced over 11,000 teaching vacancies in both primary and secondary schools. The teachers overwhelmingly submitted their applications.Interviews were to begin on 28th September but this didn’t work.TSC changed the dates to 8th October, but why?

While speaking to the Nation media yesterday,TSC Head of Corporate Affairs Ms Beatrice Wababu confirmed that the number of the applicants this time was unexpected. This might have been attributed by the job losses due to Covid 19 pandemic.

“The numbers were overwhelming. There are so many people who applied, more than we expected and we have to give every applicant a chance and go through their applications.” Said Ms Wababu.

Why Ministry Reversed Funds Meant for BOM Teachers’ Salaries; Latest Education News

Revealed: Why Ministry Reversed Funds Meant for BOM Teachers’ Salaries; Latest Education News

The latest move by the ministry of education to reverse funds meant for BOM staff Salaries left many Kenyans puzzled.

For the past few days, social media platforms have been awash with all sorts of speculations as to why the ministry of education resorted to pulling such a stunt with some insinuating that the government is full of empty promises.

The latest circular by the PS for basic education Dr. Belio Kipsang has however given the anxious teachers some green light into what necessitated the reversal of the funds.

The ministry now wants heads to verify data for all BOM teachers and give updated information on their employment status as of March 15, 2020, when schools were abruptly shut down to contain further spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

County education officers are expected to collect data bordering on the number of BOM teachers per school by Wednesday, August 12.

The circular dated August 10, 2020, further directs principals to provide all the names of BOM teachers, TSC numbers and give a few remarks about every teacher.

So there you have it, the education ministry keeps its promises. The system might be slow but the end always justifies the means.

This wise move is welcome especially now that some school heads had started writing memos directing teachers to proceed on unpaid leave after receiving a salary for half a month.

Data collection and verification is pertinent if the process of paying BOM teachers who have gone without pay for over four months now has to be fair.

BOM Teachers to be Paid, Ministry Confirms

For doubting Thomases, it is now crystal clear that the teachers employed by school management boards will receive their salaries upon verification of their details by county education officers.

KESSHA Confirms the Reversal of School Funds, Reason Being…

The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association, KESSHA has confirmed the reversal of free education funds.

By yesterday, most school heads had confirmed that indeed the funds for the first and second terms had reflected on the NEMIS portal.

A few hours later, there were clear indications that the funds were no longer accessible by schools for they were not reflected in school accounts.

The funds were meant to cushion BOM teachers and subordinate staff against the biting effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This, therefore, means that BOM teachers will have to wait longer now that the money has been reversed on grounds that the ministry did not give details on how the money will be spent.

Although the teachers and workers affected may be forced to wait longer, something good might be in the offing given that some unscrupulous school heads had started circulating circulars indicating that the teachers will proceed on unpaid leave until schools reopen despite the funds being released.

In one of the circulars at our disposal, the school board of management wished to inform BOM staff that the school could only pay part of their August salaries after which they will proceed on unpaid leave until learning resumes.

It is now clear that the education ministry may have reversed the funds to ensure that they are not misappropriated by school management boards.

If the funds had not reflected in schools’ bank accounts, why should some heads connive with management boards to deny the affected staff their rightful dues?

If the ministry did release funds for terms one and two, then it is fair that schools settle the staff’s unpaid salaries in full.

The government had earlier stated that it will cushion BOM teachers and teachers registered under the Teachers Service Commission, with the fate of private teachers unknown.

On Friday, August 7, Treasury CS Ukur Yattani stated that he would consult Magoha on the funds, which Yattani had already given the green light to be released.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani departs the National Treasury on June 11, 2020, for the 2020/21 budget statement presentation

“The funds that are supposed to be released to schools will be used to pay BOM teachers and other workers, and I have already given instructions for the release of the money.

“I will confirm with Magoha if the budget has been drawn and submitted to the Treasury,” Yattani stated in an interview with the Daily Nation.

On Thursday, August 6, CS Magoha assured principals and BOM teachers that the funds will be released, with school heads confirming that Ksh 3,725 per student for operations was released.

BOM teachers have gone over four months without salaries but ware set to enjoy government relief alongside TSC teachers as their private schools’ colleagues continue to languish.
