Mr Otieno of Gethsemane Academy located on Mfangano Island in Mbita Sub-County was arraigned in a Homa Bay-based High Court yesterday where he was charged with the murder of her alleged lover Rihana Nafula and daughter Everlyn Aoko, “their” daughter.
Mr Otieno was accused of orchestrating the death of Rihanna and her daughter Everlyn at Seka B village in Mbita Sub County between 21st October 2019 and 26th October 2019.
DEFILEMENT CHARGES
The teacher, Mr Otieno was also accused of defiling his baby mother, Rihanna last year.
It is through this defilement that the teacher is suspected of impregnating The 13-year-old Rihanna.
VULNERABLE
The 13-year-old minor was a vulnerable child being hosted by the school.
According to DCI reports, the teacher killed Rihanna and buried her body in a shallow grave near his home.
Mr Ooko also strangled Everlyn and dumped her body in a nearby bush within the village.
The bodies were discovered by a resident of the village.
OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE
According to Sang, the teacher murdered the two to interfere with the key witnesses in a defilement case he was facing at Mbita Law Court.
Rihanna left her cousin’s house in Sindo Township to attend an antenatal clinic but never returned.
Rihanna and her daughter Everlyn’s absence in court led to the withdrawal of the defilement case but the teacher was still charged with conspiracy to interfere with witnesses.
He was to appear in court on April 11 but he did not. This led to the court issuing an arrest warrant.
Mr Ooko further fled his village after the discovery of the two bodies but he was arrested in Kisumu.
The teacher denied the charges and pleaded with the court to release him on bond.
Justice Karanja denied him the bond on account that he will interfere with witnesses.
The case’s next hearing will be on 6TH April 2020.
