TSC Transfers December 2021; Forced TSC Transfers for  10 Kenya National Teachers’ Pressure Group (KNTPG) Members that have left teachers shaken to the core as TSC Official Travels 200KMs to Deliver Transfer Letter to a Teacher in Hospital
Members of the Teachers Pressure Group have been aggrieved by the ongoing purge carried out by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) that has seen a number of tutors transferred letters hundreds of kilometers away.

Nelson Kirui, a tutor from Uasin Gishu County, who is also the Rift Valley representative of the Kenya National Teachers’ Pressure Group (KNTPG) was the latest to receive a transfer letter in one of the most unorthodox ways.

According to media reports, a TSC official traveled over 200 kilometres to deliver the transfer letter to Kirui who was at the hospital, waiting for his wife to deliver.

“You can imagine they had to bring my letter from Eldoret where I work, to serve me in Olenguruone, a distance of about 200 kilometres … so heartless,” Kirui stated.

“I requested them to come check on her but they refused. They said their mission was to hand over the letter. After handing over the transfer, they instructed their driver to take photos of the three of us, as I was holding the transfer letter,” he added.

He noted that the transfer letter indicated that he was transferred from Uasin Gishu County to Lamu County.

According to Kirui, he was prompted to sign the letter as the official took photos as proof of receiving the document.

Kirui noted that hours prior to receiving the letter, the TSC official had requested for photos of the wife to prove that she was indeed hospitalised- a fact that Kirui drew the line due to privacy infringement concerns.

“He even called, asking me to share photos of my wife while in the hospital bed to prove that she was indeed hospitalised, but I refused to share the photos as that amounted to infringement of my privacy, and that’s when they decided to drive to the hospital,” he stated.

The move comes just weeks after Martha Omollo, the spokesperson of the Teachers Pressure Group (TPG), was moved to Trans Nzoia County from her Mowlem Supaloaf Primary School in Nairobi.

Omollo, who was pushing for reforms and better welfare of her colleagues, cried foul over what she claimed was an unfair transfer after she was moved from Nairobi.

“I received a call from TSC Nairobi County director through my headteacher who told me that I should be cautious of what I say to the media and that any issues I have I should go through the teachers’ unions,” she stated.

Currently, close to ten tutors have been moved to far-flung areas as part of the crackdown.

The Ministry of Education has just released the reporting dates for all 2020 form one students.

The reporting date set by the Ministry of Education is between Monday 13th January to Friday 17th January 2019.

This means that the new entrants into Kenyan secondary schools have only one week- 7 days extra to prepare themselves adequately as opposed to the other form two, three and four students.

FORM ONE SELECTION TO NATIONAL SCHOOLS

33, 000 2019 KCPE candidates have already received invitation letters to join National schools.

There are 186 national schools in Kenya distributed across all the 47 counties where these students will join.

SECOND SELECTION

Professor Magoha has confirmed that there will be no second selection for form one students’ admission since this first selection was done based on merit, choice and equity.

Professor Magoha said this during the official release of the 2020 form one admission results on 2nd December, 2019.

PANGANI GIRLS 2020 FORM ONE ADMISSION

According to the Ministry of Education’s statistics, Pangani Girls High attracted the highest number of 2019 KCPE candidates, 111,817 learners who picked the school as their first choice/option.

Unfortunately, Pangani Girls can only accommodate 336 form one students given its low capacity.

Alliance Girls also attracted 83, 489 whereas Kenya High lured 9, 797 2019 KCPE applicants.

2020 FORM ONE ADMISSION LETTERS

2020 Form One Admission Letters to National, Extra-County, County and Sub-County secondary schools will be available for download at the Ministry of Education’s official website below

https://www.education.go.ke/

Schools have also received individual students’ admission letters which have already been uploaded onto the National Education Management Information System, NEMIS Portal below

https://nemis.education.go.ke/

KCPE candidates who only selected two schools out of eleven will count themselves unlucky since they will be forced to join schools they never chose.

OVERWHELMING NUMBERS

CS Magoha further challenged Members of Parliament to construct more schools within their constituencies to cater for the overwhelming numbers of Kenyan learners who would wish to quench their thirst for education.

Mombasa and Nairobi are the worst hit when it comes to school shortages. Consequently, some learners had to be forcefully placed in Extra county and County secondary schools outside their home counties.

CS MAGOHA ON ELIMU SCHOLARSHIPS

CS Magoha also urged learners to apply for the Elimu Scholarship to receive financial aid which can propel them through secondary school education.

Interesting details have emerged about why KNUT Secretary General Mr Wilson Sossion refused to tone down and resign from his current position despite relentless efforts by the Teachers Service Commission and KNUT’s NATIONAL Executive Council, NEC.
According to the afore-mentioned book which will be released early next year, 2020; Mr Wilson Sossion was ready to resign but he felt that “his colleagues wanted to throw him out like a dog”- quoted verbatim.
On September 16, 2019, KNUT Secretary General sought the wise counsel of his counter-part Mr Misori about the ongoing TSC-KNUT stale-mate.
Misori urged Sossion to consider whether he was the problem. To his utter surprise, Mr Sossion was also thinking in the same direction.
The only thing that stopped him from giving in to pressure was his fear that his colleagues were not handling his removal well.
Mr Sossion felt that he deserved better especially given the fact that he served the Kenya National Union of Teachers well and for a considerably long time.
According to Misori, Sossion was ready to leave the union “even tomorrow” on condition that there were mutually agreed terms.
This happened when teachers whose salary increment had been withheld by the Teachers Service Commission were busy pressing the “red button.”
NEC had given a go-ahead for Mr Sossion to be dethroned by Mr Otieno who was directed to take over KNUT’s leadership in acting capacity.
KNUT had also changed bank signatories to block Mr Wilson Sossion from running the union’s affairs.
Mr Sossion agreed to have KUPPET’s Secretary General Mr Akelo Misori mediate on his behalf so that he could be accorded the respect he deserved- an honourable exit. He vowed to cause KNUT immeasurable damage if they threw him out of office.
Consequently, Sossion invited his “heir” Mr Otieno for dinner to discuss how to give him an honourable exit. Mr Hesbon Otieno agreed to Sossion’s terms but the union failed to respond to Sossion’s demands.
When three weeks elapsed and KNUT had not shown any signs of ensuring an honourable and sift exit for Mr Sossion, he decided to fight back.

TSC Deployment letters for teachers

TSC latest news on promotions.

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, issues a deployment letter to a teacher upon appointment. In deployment process a teacher is appointed to an administrative position or a higher administrative position. If you are lucky, you can be deployed to the Secretariat of the Commission.

Deployment also comes when you are posted from a primary institution to a post primary institution.

It is a dream of many teachers to be promoted and deployed by TSC. Not everyone, though, who gets deployed. This is because the number of administrative posts are limited and very competitive.

WHEN CAN A TEACHER BE DEPLOYED BY TSC?

Deployment comes in the form of the following:

When you are appointed to an administrative position;

If you are appointed to a higher administrative position;

When you are appointed to the Commission’s secretariat;

When appointed to perform administrative duties; and

When you are posted from a primary to a post primary institution.

A few teachers get appointment to administrative posts. If you are lucky, then you can be deployed by TSC as a:

(a) Head of institution;

(b) Deputy head of institution;

(c) Registrar;

(d) Dean of Curriculum;

(e) Dean of Students;

(f) Head of Department;

(g) Senior Teacher; or

(h) Head of Subject.

In all the above scenarios, a teacher receives a deployment letter from the employer. In most cases, deployment comes after you have successfully been promoted after an interview process.

You may also find the following useful:

TSC letter of probationary appointment for newly posted teachers

TSC interdiction letter

TSC transfer letter

TSC Show cause letter for teachers

TSC Offer of employment letter (Appointment letter)

TSC confirmation letter

TSC regret letters; What can make a teacher to get a regret letter from TSC

TSC REDEPLOYMENT LETTER.

There are also a few unlucky teachers who get redeployed by TSC. In this case you will be served with a redeployment letter.

As captured in the Code of Regulations for teachers, the Commission may redeploy a teacher who has been deployed to any administrative position, within an educational institution to perform normal teaching duties where the teacher;

(a) is unable to perform the functions of the office so held;

(b) is incompetent or neglects administrative duties;

(c) continuously posts declining examination results;

(d) has poor financial management skills;

(e) neglects or fails to maintain proper records;

(0 is the subject of investigations for an offence under these Regulations; or

(g) performs any other act that in the opinion of the Commission justifies re-deployment.

Live Release of 2023/2024 Form One Selection (Placement) Results; CS Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday

Get Ready for the Live Release of 2023/2024 Form One Selection (Placement) Results! CS Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday

Cs Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday: It is now confirmed! The release of this year’s form one placement results will take place on Monday this week. This follows the completion of the 2023/2024 form one selection exercise that has been marred by controversy on Friday.

Confirming this,  CS Machogu said that the  announcement will take place in Nairobi, crowning the two-week placement exercise.

The 2023 KCPE candidates are now waiting with bated breath to see which schools they have been selected to join come January 2024.

The 2024 Form 1 placement selection kicked off on November 27 and concluded on December 11 with the aim of ensuring fairness for all 2023 KCPE candidates.

The CS emphasized the ministry’s commitment to a transparent and equitable system for Form 1 placement.

During the release of the 2023 KCPE results at Mtihani House, Machogu disclosed that the top KCPE candidate attained 428 marks, with only two cases of exam malpractice reported.

This is how this year’s form one placement slots will be shared

Govt Formula on Sharing Form One Slots. The Ministry of Education is done with the selection process for candidates who have recently sat for the  2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations. Despite 8,523 candidates scoring 400 points and above, national schools can only accommodate only 5,570 students. To address this issue, the Department designed a placement system aimed at ensuring a balance between national, regional and socio-economic factors.

With 1,406,577 applicants waiting for secondary school placement, the process is computerized and takes two weeks. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu assures that a fair and transparent system is in place and stresses that all examinees will have the opportunity to transfer to secondary school.

It is noteworthy that this is the last year for KCPE and candidates who missed the exam but were in Standard Eight have a chance to take a special test in January. Selection criteria for national schools take into account student selection, overall and individual performance and the type of school attended, whether public or private. However, private schools have raised concerns about perceived bias in the selection process.

Traditionally, candidates who score 400 points and above secure places in national schools with the option of selection based on performance, affirmative action and school improvement. Students choose from national, non-district, district and sub-district institutions, while admission forms can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education portal.

While public secondary school students qualify for sponsorship through the Free Day Secondary Education programme, placement results are expected before Christmas, allowing Form One students to start their studies in January 2024.

KCPE 2020/2021 national exams marrred by labour pains

KCPE 2020/2021 national exams marrred by labour pains

KCPE 2020/2021 national exams mirred by labour pains

This year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, national examinations commenced with a fair share of drama after “Corona” babies decided to make their exit as their mothers were writing their final papers.

The situation saw a good number of dispensaries and hospitals converted into Knec examination centres for the KCPE candidates.

Details hitting our newsdesk indicate that at least 21 girls who sat their first papers yesterday gave birth before the exam period while others went into labour during the exams.

2020/2021 KCPE candidature

 1.2 million candidates are currently taking the tests, which were put off last year following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Number of KCPE pregnant candidates per county

Migori County recorded 208 teen  pregnancies during the KCPE 2020 national exams.

According to the Director of Education Ms Elizabeth Otieno , out of the 29,787 candidates who wrote their exams, 108 were pregnant girls.

This number encompasses school girls waiting to sit their final Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams starting next week.

In Homa Bay County, three KCPE candidates were rushed to local health facilities to deliver their babies.

Education officials have reiterated  that a pregnancy or delivery will not deter any girl from sitting the examination.

In Kisumu East, a 17-year-old pupil at Oyola Primary School delivered a baby moments before she sat her Mathematics paper.

The girl was allowed to write the exam at the health facility in Chiga, where she had been admitted since Sunday evening.

In Kericho County, a 17-year-old new mother was among 54,700 candidates who wrote their KCPE exams yesterday.

The girl sat her Mathematics and English papers at the maternity ward in Kericho County Hospital as her twins were being managed at the new-born unit next door.

In Mwingi North, Kitui County, five female candidates wrote their exams at different health facilities where they were admitted with labour pains.

According to a police report, one of the girls, a candidate at Wikithuki Primary Schoo, delivered at Mumoni Nursing Home where she had been admitted to in the morning. Although weak, she was able to go on with her exams.

Two other candidates were admitted to Tseikuru sub-county Hospital – one from Mwangea Primary School and another from Kyamalutu Primary School.

In Kyuso sub-county, two candidates were admitted to Kyuso sub-county hospital awaiting to deliver. They were able to write their exams from the labour wards under the close watch of medical officers.

In Trans Nzoia County, two girls were rushed to the Kitale County Hospital with labour complications.

One of the girls, a pupil at Suam Primary School, had a pre-mature delivery last month and is admitted to the facility after she developed complications.

The other girl is from a school in Tongaren Constituency in Bungoma County and is expected to deliver any time.

Three girls at Toll Station Primary School gave birth recently.

Centre Manager Carolyne Ngaira said the candidates were counselled before sitting the exams.

“We have three girls who delivered days ago and are in high spirits after we counselled them before taking their exams. We hope they are going to post good results,” Mrs Ngaira told The Standard.

Two other candidates delivered minutes before the start of the examinations in the North Rift.

One of the candidates gave birth to a baby girl in Nandi County about two hours to the tests, while the second delivered at 7.30am in Uasin Gishu County. They went on to sit the examinations.

Country Education Director Zachary Mutuiri said Nandi County is one of the regions that recorded the highest number of teen pregnancies during the long Covid-19 break.

Noting that out of 3,500 primary girls who were found impregnated, over 200 are sitting their KCPE.

In the neighbouring Uasin Gishu, a candidate at Asururiet Primary School also gave birth to a girl at 7.30am.

County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka said the girl was in good condition and she sat yesterday’s papers without any difficulty.

DO TSC TEACHERS IN KENYA NEED MORE UNION DEDUCTIONS IN THESE HARSH ECONOMIC TIMES?

DO TSC TEACHERS IN KENYA NEED MORE UNION DEDUCTIONS IN THESE HARSH ECONOMIC TIMES?
TSC TEACHERS CRY FOUL AS ANOTHER UNION OTHER THAN KEWOTA INVADES THEIR PAYSLIPS
“I was taken aback after I discovered that my payslip had been mutilated once more.” This was one of the confessions made by a TSC employed teacher in Nakuru County.

https://teacher.co.ke/tsc-teachers-cry-as-another-union-other-than-kewota-invades-payslips/
Mr Kemboi was not the only one perplexed by this unfortunate predicament, so many teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission have taken to social media to express their fury over the unwarranted mutilation of their payslips through union deductions.
According to the teachers, another union other than KEWOTA invaded and made deductions from some TSC employed teachers without their consent! The newest cartel in the TSC-union “game of thrones” is going by the name KUSNET which in full stands for Kenya Union of Special Needs Teachers.
KUSNET made deductions from teachers December 2019 payslips. In a sample case, a teacher going by the name Mirrie M. Tims on Facebook claimed that KUSNET deducted kshs 627.42 from her December 2019 payslip despite being a non-member.
This is quite outrageous since I thought that teachers have a right to either join or avoid unions altogether.
TOOTHLESS DOGS
If asked to give my honest opinion on these teachers’ unions, I would compare them to toothless dogs that bark without biting.
Many a time, teachers have been interdicted over minor offences such as coming to school late or failing to attend the assembly which are dubbed “insubordination” at the snap of the principal’s fingers.
The question is, what are these unions doing to protect the welfare of teachers?
STRINGENT RULES
Currently, teachers are working under very tough conditions, they have no say in as far as the school affairs are concerned.
Those who try to dissent their immediate bosses’ demands are either “delocalized” or interdicted in the name of “kufunzwa adabu na kujua hujui.” By the time these unions intervene, the teacher affected would have suffered a big blow in his or her career development.
TSC TEACHERS’ WOES
Worth noting is the fact that some of the school heads hold uncalled for grudges against teachers who do seem to support their “reign.”
They, therefore, summon and intimidate them into buying their retrogressive ideas. Others with insurmountable vendetta write secret reports to the TSC aimed at destroying the teachers’ career development.
My plea to the Teachers unions in Kenya is “PLEASE LEAVE ALONE TEACHERS TO DEAL WITH THEIR WOES, THEY HAVE GOT MORE THAN ENOUGH TO STOMACH RIGHT NOW. THEIR TROUBLES RANGE FROM AFFORDING A DECENT LIFESTYLE FOR THEIR KIDS TO TPAD!”
