KCSE 2023-2024 LEAKAGES

The KCSE 2023 examinations were marred by cases of malpractice with some KCSE top performing schools being on the spot for attempting to cheat. A total of four students will NOT receive their KCSE results.

Speaking during the release of this year’s KCSE 2023 results, Professor Margaret Kamar commended Moi Girls High School principal for hosting the event on such a short notice and for ensuring seamless administration of the school given the surging enrolment rates.

She further applauded the Presidential taskforce for offering bold solutions to the CBC quagmire. She sanctioned the changes stating that CBC will reduce wastages and ensure equality. Above all, it will motivate every child to achieve their best.

Let KCSE Results not Define You!

When invited to tender her remarks, the Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Sholei encouraged candidates not to let KCSE results define them. Through her own anecdote, she encouraged learners not to give up since she was a C student but she rose to the top of her class at Loreto Matunda after the nuns offered her another chance.

CS Machogu’s Speech During the Release of KCSE 2023 (January 2024) Results

When requested to take the podium, CS Machogu confirmed that FSE and FPE funds have hit school accounts. He also confirmed payment of all KNEC contracted professionals, including examiners.

He applauded the new system of distributing KCSE examination materials since it curbed cases of exam malpractice.

He acknowledged the challenges faced during the administration of the KCSE national examinations including banditry and the heavy el-Niño rains.

He thanked the Almighty God and all key stakeholders for attending the KCSE 2023 Results release ceremony.

Supplementary Examination

Since Knec has only traced 2000 KCPE candidates who did not sit for the national examinations, the CS sanctioned principals to allow the learners join form one without sitting for KCPE examinations. However, these learners will have to take a qualifying examination before they join form three.

PLENARY SESSION

Having reported and registered today, contracted KNEC professionals held a plenary session whereby they were briefed on what is expected of them during this year’s KCSE 2019 marking exercise.

They have also coordinated the marking scheme in preparation for live marking.

CHEATING

As the marking of this year’s KCSE exams kicks off, the fate of 21 KCSE candidates is still unknown following their involvement in exam irregularities.

Speaking at Kenya High school, Professor George Magoha, the Cabinet Secretary for education, confirmed that 21 cases of cheating have already been reported and 90 phones confiscated during the administration of the 2019 KCSE exams.

Besides, 300 schools had been put under constant watch following allegations of plans to cheat.

This year’s orchestrated cheating hot spots include Kisii, Homa Bay, Garissa, Wajir, Migori and Nairobi Counties.

2019 KCSE RELEASE DATES

CS Magoha also said that the 2019 KCSE results will be released long before Christmas, a declaration that has sent jitters in officials who are strongly opposing the idea of “rushing” the marking and the release of national exams.

TSC IN FRESH BATTLE WITH KNUT OVER THE IMPENDING MASSIVE TRANSFER OF SCHOOL HEADS WORKING IN THEIR HOME AREAS, HERE ARE KEY DETAILS

A fresh row between the Teachers Service Commission, TSC and the Kenya Union of Teachers, KNUT has emerged following the upcoming mass transfer of heads working within their home areas.

https://arena.co.ke/category/delocalization/

On Monday, December 2 2019 KNUT vowed to fight the planned transfers which will be implemented before the official opening of schools in January 2020.

TSC MASSIVE TRANSFERS OF SCHOOL HEADS

The Teachers Service Commission has already compiled a list of principals and primary school headteachers who are likely to be transferred to work away from their home counties.

Details from this year’s heads’ meeting in Mombasa indicate that the TSC began compiling the list in June 2019.

SOSSION ON DELOCALIZATION: TEACHING IS AN ETHICAL AND CULTURAL PROCESS

Yesterday, KNUT Secretary General Mr Wilson Sossion strongly opposed the planned delocalization of school administrators saying that teaching is an ethical and cultural process hence the decision to move teachers was completely misguided.

He further added that the Teachers Service Commission cannot solve a political problem in Kenya, that is tribalism through teachers.

Session said that delocalization was a retrogressive policy which has made several teachers resign from the commission and others deserting their duties.

Sossion further urged the Commission to have teachers from within the community to take up leadership positions in schools within their home counties since they better understand the local language and culture especially now that the Competence-Based Curriculum has been rolled out.

DELOCALIZATION

The delocalization of TSC teachers begun in January 2018 with the highest number of transfers being witnessed in April and August 2018. This led to a lot of disruptions given that the academic year was not yet over.

The TSC this year however plans to conduct the delocalization in December to avoid disruptions.

TSC BOSS DR NANCY MACHARIA ON DELOCALIZATION

The Teachers Service Commission Boss Dr Nancy Macharia who is set to address the heads today has defended the delocalization policy saying it will improve efficiency and effective administration of Kenyan public schools.

She further added that heads cannot serve in their home Counties or one school for more than 9 years.

According to the delocalization policy, deputy heads will also not be spared.

Deputy headteachers or deputy principals who have served in the same institution for over 6 years will also be transferred.

TEACHERS WHO ARE EXEMPTED FROM DELOCALIZATION

According to the Teachers Service Commission, only teachers with chronic illnesses or those aged 56 and above will be spared.

The Government is also in support of the delocalization policy since it will eventually address the shortage of teachers in some parts of the country especially hardship areas.

MORE TSC DECEMBER 2019 DELOCALIZATION NEWS

The TSC is set to delocalize school heads and other school administrators in November/ December, 2019.
In June 2019, the Teachers Service Commission directed all county Directors to collect data on school administrators in readiness for the transfers.
This was done through a memo dated 27th June, 2019 by Dr Dorothy Owuor, the TSC Deputy Director in charge of Staffing.
The Teachers Service Commission is consequently analyzing data for principals serving within their home counties and those who have served in the same school for over nine years.

The Teachers Service Commission is consequently analyzing data for principals serving within their home counties and those who have served in the same school for over nine years.

The Commission received the data at the headquarters in Nairobi by 8th July 2019.

NO DELOCALIZATION
Dr Nancy Macharia, the TSC Chief Executive Officer, has confirmed that teachers with medical conditions will not be affected by the delocalization process.

Teachers who have attained the age of 56 years will also be spared.

According to private sources, the TSC is finalizing the transfer letters for the heads who have been affected by the exercise.

The letters will be dispatched in late November or early December.

THE RATIONALE BEHIND THE DELOCALIZATION PROCESS
According to the TSC, delocalization is being undertaken due to the following reasons:

1. To fill the slots of principals and heads who have attained the mandatory retirement age. This means deputy principals and deputy heads with the required qualifications and outstanding performance will be promoted and transferred to their new stations of work. Some principals have also been transferred to fill the vacancies left to better performance and utilize the experience they have garnered in their new work stations.

2. To strengthen management in some learning institutions as per the recommendations of the standards and assessment reports.

3. To implement the policy which regulates the appointment of institutional administrators. According to the policy, administrators who have served for too long should be transferred to enable the new work stations tap into their wide experience.

NEW DELOCALIZATION DATES
The Teachers Service Commission in April transferred few school administrators to avoid disruption of curriculum implementation.

The Commission now prefers delocalizing Administrators in December as opposed to August and April to facilitate a smooth transition and reduce disruptions.

KNUT has vehemently opposed the massive delocalization exercise saying it should be carried out

SCHOOLS TO REFUND FEES FOR SECOND AND THIRD TERM; CS MAGOHA’S TAKE ON SCHOOL FEES

SCHOOLS TO REFUND FEES FOR SECOND AND THIRD TERM; CS MAGOHA’S TAKE ON SCHOOL FEES

School fees

Professor George Magoha has ordered all primary and secondary schools to refund school fees for the second and third term to all parents who had paid in time.

Speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing at the KICD headquarters, the CS also added that schools are however free to liaise with the affected parents to have the fee recovered when schools reopen so that the parents will not have to pay again.

This move follows CS Magoha’s announcement that the 2020 academic calendar will be considered lost hence done away with and all learners will have to repeat their classes in the year 2021.

KCSE AND KCPE EXAMS

The CS also canceled the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE national tests.

This, therefore, means that candidates will have to sit their exams at the end of the year 2021.

CS Magoha’s verdict yesterday does not augur well especially for learners who hail from disadvantaged backgrounds. For such learners, school is the safest home for them and now that they will be forced to stay at home, many of them are likely to become disillusioned and lose track of their life before the year  2021.

Some 4, 000 schoolgirls in Machakos County have already been reported pregnant while school-going boys have been caught in a web of drugs and crime.

KAKAMEGA PRIMARY SCHOOL STAMPEDE REPORT IS OUT; EDUCATION NEWS

Kakamega Primary School stampede probe report is finally out. The investigations into the unfortunate event that claimed the lives of 14 pupils have indicated that teachers were not responsible for whatever happened.

The results of the investigation have also ruled out reports that church cults and ghosts may have been caused the accident.

In fact, the teachers were the first ones to respond to the sound of the alarm.

“Upon the sound of the alarm, teachers were the first to rescue the pupils who had stumbled on each other and were trapped in the building,” reads part of the report.

This report is a relief to teachers who had been accused of negligence, a key offense listed in the TSC Act that can lead to the suspension and/ or dismissal of TSC-Employed teachers.

NO CRIMINAL ACT

According to the police, the Kakamega Primary School stampede was an accident and no crime was committed.

“There is no clear criminal act that has been committed that is evident, no persons have been mentioned in connection with the stampede as well. This was an unfortunate event,” said the report.

The report also exonerated some churches that had holding services at the school from suspected cultism.

PROTESTS

Parents had grown impatient over the delayed release of the report. This prompted the CS Education Professor George Magoha who recently paid a visit to the tragic site to urge them to bury the past and focus on more important issues affecting the institution.

These sentiments sparked uproar and protests from parents especially those who lost their children in the tragedy.

“A lot is being peddled on social media regarding what happened. We should not allow politicians to cheat us with what they think; let us learn from past mistakes and wait for the report,” said the CS.

The much-anticipated report comes four months since the incident happened. Parents at the school have however criticized the report for failing to capture fine details of what could have happened.

TSC DELOCALIZATION POLICY MAY BE QUASHED TO MINIMIZE TRAVEL IN THE WAKE OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC; TSC NEWS

TSC DELOCALIZATION POLICY MAY BE QUASHED TO MINIMIZE TRAVEL IN THE WAKE OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC; TSC NEWS

Concerned about the safety of the teachers, the union now wants the TSC to do away with the delocalization policy to minimize travel and chances of the coronavirus spread.

External links with related content

The Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT has written a seven-page letter containing a range of measures that the TSC should take ahead of the reopening of schools.

One of the key measures that KNUT wants the TSC to give priority is to minimize traveling by delocalized teachers to visit their families over the weekends.

According to the union this is likely to increase the spread of the coronavirus in schools. Therefore, teachers should be allowed to work in their home areas.

“The delocalization policy should be repealed with immediate effect to allow teachers to serve in their localities. TSC should reorganize staffing to ensure zero movements,” wrote KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

Since the plan to reopen schools is underway, KNUT now wants the TSC to take advantage of the three months period to institute critical staffing changes.

TEACHERS SHOULD WORK NEAR THEIR HOMES

According to Sossion, the localization of tutors should be the new norm in the wake of the coronavirus. TSC should, therefore, post teachers near their home areas or where they have established permanent residence to reduce traveling.

“Chances of increased corona cases are high since teachers will move from one station to the other using diverse means of transport. For instance, tutors from rural areas are likely to take extended weekend breaks to visit their families,” added Sossion.

TEACHERS IN HIGH-RISK AGES TO BE GIVEN SPECIAL ATTENTION

According to the World Health Organization, WHO guidelines, teachers who fall in high-risk ages (55 years and above) and those with pre-existing medical conditions should be given special attention.

This is because death rates tend to increase for patients aged 50 years and above.

WHO data shows that the death rate for Covid-19 patients with less than 50 years is between 0.2-0.4 whereas that of patients between 50-59 years stands at 1.3%.

Currently, there are 50, 000 TSC-employed tutors who fall in high-risk ages.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

KNUT is also proposing an affirmative action for North Eastern Counties to raise staffing numbers.

According to the union, the TSC needs an additional 400, 000 teachers to effectively implement social distancing among learners.

TEACHER: LEARNER RATIO

According to Sossion, a proper class size under the corona period should have a maximum of 15 learners.

Currently, the teacher: learner ratio in Kenya stands at 1:50 in primary schools. The current workload for high school teachers is 27 lessons per week.

KNUT now proposes that all TSC intern teachers be absorbed into permanent and pensionable basis and trained teachers currently working on BOM terms be absorbed by the Commission to bridge staffing gaps.

STAFFING SHORTAGES

According to the TSC data presented in Parliament by Dr. Nancy Macharia in March 2020, the Commission is short of 125, 615 teachers. Post-primary institutions need 95, 258 more tutors while primary schools require 30, 357.

Breast cancer is a malignant growth that develops in the breasts. It is a disease which is characterized by abnormal and uncontrolled multiplication of cells in the breast tissues.
It is treatable if diagnosed early
It also requires a medical diagnosis- a biopsy
Lab tests and imaging are required to help in diagnosis
It is one of the most common types of cancer, especially among American women.
One in every eight women in the US develops breast cancer
It has got various types which differ depending on their ability to spread to other parts of the body.
It does not have specific causes but medics have identified a number of risk factors.

COMMON TYPES OF BREAST CANCER

There are many types of breast cancer but the most common ones are:

  1. Ductal carcinoma in situ
  2. Invasive ductal carcinoma
  3. Invasive lobular carcinoma

Most breast cancers encompass a type of carcinoma called adenocarcinoma which starts in the cells that make up glands (the glandular tissue. This means that their onset is in the milk ducts or the lobules (milk-producing glands)

Less common types of breast cancer include:

Sarcomas, Phyllodes, Paget disease& Angiosarcomas. These start in the cells of the muscle, fat or connective tissue

It is also crucial to note that sometimes a single breast cancer can be as a result of the combination of various types of cancers. Moreover, in some rare cases, the cancer cells may fail to form a lump or a tumour at all.

Therefore, the pathologist needs to conduct a biopsy to determine the specific type of cancer and check if the cancer has spread and if it has, to what extent. The extent to which the cancer has developed can be described using the following terms:

In situ which means that the breast cancers have not spread

Invasive or infiltrating which means that the cancers have invaded or spread to the surrounding tissues

EARLY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF BREAST CANCER

They include:

  • Swelling of part of the breast or the whole of it
  • Consistent breast and/or nipple pain
  • Nipple retraction. This means that the nipples are turned inwards
  • A red, scaly or thickened nipple and/or breast skin
  • Abnormal nipple discharge (a discharge other than breast milk)
  • Skin irritation or when the breast skin looks like an orange peel
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the neck and armpits
  • A change in the size or shape of the breast or nipples

RISK FACTORS

Usually, normal breast cells become cancerous due to DNA mutations-abnormal changes. Although some of these mutations are inherited, most DNA mutations are acquired in the course of the patient’s life. This occurs when proto-oncogenes which help cells to grow mutate, they can facilitate increased growth of cells in a way that cannot be controlled. This uncontrolled growth of cells is what causes breast cancers. Such mutations are referred to as oncogenes

Risk factors include:

  • Family history- breast cancer is common among women whose close relatives i.e. mother, sister or daughter have ever diagnosed with cancer.
  • The patient’s history- if you have ever been diagnosed with breast cancer in one of the breasts, you are at a higher risk of developing cancer in the other breast or an additional cancer on the original breast.
  • Obesity- being overweight increases the risk of breast cancer in pre and postmenopausal women
  • The use of oral contraceptives for a long period of time that is at least 10 years slightly increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
  • Failure to breastfeed a child for at least one and a half years increases the risk. However, breastfeeding for one and a half to two years might lower the risk.
  • Exposure to chest radiations or the use of diethylstilbestrol further increases the risk
  • Race- white women are likely to develop breast cancer whereas African-American women tend to have developed tumours that are more aggressive if they develop into cancer
  • Women who have ever been diagnosed with certain non-cancerous breast conditions for instance typical hyperplasia are at a greater risk of developing breast cancer.
  • Menstruation- women who start their menstruation cycle at a younger age (before 12 years) or those who experience menopause later (after 55 years) have a slightly higher risk of developing breast cancer
  • The density of the breast tissue- women whose breast tissue is dense (can be measured using a mammogram) have a higher risk of developing breast cancer.
  • Alcohol consumption also increases the risk. A recent meta-analysis proved that all amounts or levels of alcohol are directly linked to an increased risk of breast cancer development, light drinking included.
  • Lack of exercise also increases the risk of breast cancer development.
  • Genetic risk factors- if you inherit a mutated gene from a parent, then there is a significantly higher risk of developing breast cancer.

THE LINK BETWEEN ANTIPERSPIRANT/ DEODORANTS AND BREAST CANCER

Recent research has proved beyond doubt that there is no direct link between parabens (a preservative used in deodorants) and breast cancer. Even if these parabens can build up in breast tissues, it is not conclusive that they can prompt breast cancer.

BREAST CANCER, MOST RECENT STUDY: WHAT CAUSES BREAST CANCER?

A study conducted by scientists at the University of New South Wales, Australia for 83 years has revealed that 40 % of breast cancer strains may be transmitted by human-to-human saliva.

The study has also linked some breast cancers to a virus linked to the domestic rat.

According to the experts, there is enough evidence that a mouse mammary tumour-like virus (MMTV) is the probable cause of many breast cancers.

The mammary tumour-like virus was first discovered in rat milk in 1936. It was later linked to tumours in pups which were suckled by cancerous mothers.

Since then, research has constantly linked women with breast cancer to a higher evidence of the MMTV virus in their body tissues.

BREAST CANCER MOST RECENT STATISTICS (2019)

Another study conducted in Kenya in 1981 also linked the mice virus to up to 40 % of breast cancers.

This study led to the discovery that 13 out of 21 which translates to 62% of breast cancer patients in Kenya and 27 out of 145 that is 18.6 % of breast cancer patients in the US had signs of the MMTV virus.

Among Asian women, 38% of breast cancer patients had the virus.

In healthy women who did not have breast cancer, 0nly 7 out of 26 (27%) had evidence of the MMTV

virus. In Asia, one out of 22 healthy women had the MMTV virus (4.5%).

On the other hand, one out of 36 healthy women in America had the mice virus (2.8%).

The authors of this new breast cancer study explained that the high levels of MMTV virus among Kenyan women compared to Asian and American women suggest different strains of the disease, environmental or genetic factors.

THE DANGERS OF THE HOUSE MICE

They also said that the high population in third world countries like Kenya may lead to wider exposure of these women to domestic rats as opposed to developed countries.

House mice are common in Kenyan households. They do defecate and urinate on uncooked food which exposes humans to greater danger.

Rats are also common in supermarkets and shops which stock cereals and other products that human beings eat without cooking.

According to the study, the MMTV virus which is present in many rodent populations can be transmitted by consuming uncooked cereals and other uncooked products.

The study concludes that the higher the prevalence of the house mice, the higher the prevalence of human breast cancer.

BREAST CANCER QUICK FACTS

  1. Women with breast cancer have five times more mice viruses than healthy women.

  1. The MMTV virus that causes breast cancer can be identified between 1 and 11 years before the cancer develops beyond control.

  1. The virus is also present in human milk from normal lactating women but it is higher in lactating women at a higher risk of breast cancer.

  1. The MMTV virus is also present in dogs, cats, mice, rats and monkeys.

  1. Saliva is the most plausible means of transmitting the breast cancer virus from human to human and possibly fro dogs to humans.

FEATURED POST: HOW TO REDUCE THE RISK OF CANCER

medicine have proved various causative agents that can be linked to cancer.

Some of these include radiation from the sun, coming into contact with radioactive materials, radicals (in water or soil) and unhealthy lifestyle like excessive drinking, unhealthy diet and smoking tobacco.

HIV/AIDS patients are also vulnerable due to their low immunity.

Therefore it is crucial to observe the following guidelines to reduce the risk of contracting cancer:

GUIDELINES ON HOW TO PREVENT CANCER

1. Have regular exercises.
According to a study which was conducted in the year 2017 and published in the Journal of Carcinogenesis, regular exercises greatly reduce the risk of developing cancer.

The study was steered by a team of experts from the University of California.

2. Go for vaccination
Vaccines against some types of cancers have been developed.one of them is the HPV vaccine which protects women from the risk of contracting cervical cancer.

Oncologists advise all women who are reproductive to go the vaccine against HPV, a leading cause of cervical cancer.

Vaccination is more effective when administered on young girls who are not sexually active.

3. Practice safe sex
HPV, which leads to cervical cancer, for instance, is associated with multiple sexual partners.

If women either practice safe sex or remain faithful, they are likely to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

4. Consider regular screening and testing
Various tests and screening procedures have been developed to help detect cancers early for effective treatment and full recovery.

Some of them include the Pap smear test for cervical cancer, PSA tests and biopsies for prostate cancer and the BRCA 1 and 2 tests for breast cancer.

5. Lifestyle change
Since cancer is associated with one’s lifestyle, you may consider changing your lifestyle for the better.

Start by eating healthy food, avoiding smoking tobacco and excessive drinking of alcohol.

KCSE 2020-2021 marking Commences as KNEC Examiners Decry Poor Working Conditions and Under Payment: Latest News on the KCSE 2020-2021 Results

The marking of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE national Examinations has officially commenced.

Knec seasoned Examiners have already reported to duty in the specified KNEC marking centres spread across Nairobi.

The 2021 KCSE Examiners are however not a happy lot right now since it seems that their plea fell on deaf ears.

This is simply because Knec increased marking centres without bearing in mind the social distancing guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health.

According to privy sources whose identity I will not reveal for fear of being victimized, the issue of congestion has not been addressed despite the threat posted by the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In one of the marking centres in Nairobi for instance, 16 Examiners have been forced to share a very small room.

What is even more devastating is the fact that there are no sockets from where Examiners can charge their phones.

If Knec decided to increase the number of marking centres, it should have taken into account the social distance rule since it is Common knowledge that not all teachers have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Although going for marking is voluntary, Knec should realize the pertinent roles played by KCSE Examiners since without them, we will not get any results.

Moreover, in 2019 ugly scenes were exposes when Physics and Business Examiners downed their tools following poor working conditions and low pay.

The 2019 expose brought to light the plight of Knec Examiners which include

Long working hours

To deliver the KCSE Knec results as scheduled, teachers are forced to wake up in the wee hours of dawn, as early as 4.00 a.m. and work until 10.00 P.m.

This leaves them feeling overwhelmed and exhausted at the same time.

Poor Knec payment rates

Despite the sacrifices made by the Knec Examiners to deliver exam results in time, Knec still pays them as low as 50 Kenyan shillings per script.

Following the demos staged by Examiners in 2019, KUPPET backed them saying that KNEC should pay Examiners a flat rate of Kshs 100 per script.

However, the arbitration process saw Knec increase the payment rates by Kshs 2 per script.

This means that the highest paid Knec KCSE examiner will receive Kshs 79 per script- English Paper 3.

The rest will receive between Kshs 51-77 per script.

Congestion

Another key challenge that Examiners are dealing with under the watch of the so-called giant teachers’ unions is congestion.

As earlier noted, some marking centres are currently congested to an extent that sixteen Examiners are being forced to share a cube.

Knec should be sensitive enough especially with the ravaging covid-19 pandemic and increase the number of marking centres further to encourage social distancing.

Over taxation of Examiners pay

What is even more devastating is the issue of taxation.

Any Examiner who marks papers worth Kshs 24,000 and above will be forced to remit 25 per cent of his total pay to the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Although Examiners have protested against this, their pleas seem to fall on deaf ears since neither Knec nor KRA cares.

This is the most unfortunate of all since some teachers were locked out of the 2021 TSC promotions for lack of KRA Tax compliance Certificate following tax arrears ascribed to Knec marking.

In a circular dated March 30, 2020, copied to principals of tertiary level colleges offering 2020 SNE and ECDE programs, KNEC CEO Dr. Mercy Karogo said that the decision to postpone the exams was informed by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive ordering a total shut down of all learning institutions, colleges included.

“The Kenya National Examinations Council  wishes to inform you that the 2020 ECDE (proficiency, certificate, and diploma) exams which had been scheduled to take place between April 12, 2020, and April 16, 2020, and Diploma in Special Needs education, SNE scheduled to run between April 12, 2020, and April 23, 2020, have been postponed until further notice.” Said Dr. Karogo.

Dr. Karogo further added that the new examination dates for ECDE and SNE April 2020 KNEC exams will be announced once colleges re-open and resume teaching/learning.

KNEC’s update comes at a time when the number of coronavirus positive cases keep on soaring. In the last 24 hours, CS Kagwe confirmed that Kenya has recorded 8 more coronavirus positive cases bringing the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Kenya to 50 by Monday March 30, 2020.

Speaking at Afya House in Nairobi during a media briefing on Monday, March 30, 2020, Dr. Patrick Amoth, the Director-General- Ministry of Health noted that according to projections, the number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya is likely to rise to 10, 000 by the end of April 2020.

Therefore, Kenyans should prepare for tougher times especially if they fail to adhere to the coronavirus directives issued by the Government and the Ministry of Health.

TSC Breaking News Today

TSC News Today

This follows the latest TSC News on teachers’ salaries indicating that teachers should warm up for better salaries after parliament quashed efforts by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, SRC geared towards ensuring a salary freeze for all civil servants, teachers included for the next five years.

Teachers therefore have got reason to smile now that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s final budget took into account their grievances and factored in salary rise cash amounting to billions.

In the new CBA, primary school teachers are most preferred as compared to other categories of teachers.

According to the Teachers Service Commission CEO, salaries of primary school teacher will be in the list of
Change in pay for all teachers, but primary class teachers have been awarded a pay hike. 6000.

The commission says that it supported primary school teachers because they are the most affected group who get low wages.

The change is immediate and the teachers will be smiling towards the bank at the end of next month with their salary topped.

The Commision’s move has been appreciated by all employed primary school teachers who say that life has become unbearable with little salary.

Some teachers say that with the salary hike they will be able to get basic necessities which will improve their standard of living.

With teachers now being sure to get salary therefore it will take some time due to the huge number of teachers in the country to implement it and display it in their payslips in a phased manner.

Therefore, this means that this month’s salary is bound to be delayed because of this.

2. KCPE 2021: the number of adults who sat the exam were 29 607, representing 2.42% of the total population that sat the exam.

The number of adults who sat the KCPE exams this year increased according to statistics from the Ministry of Education.

Last year, the adults who sat the exams were 29,607, representing 2.42 per cent.

The statistics also show that all counties registered an increase in adult candidates from last year.

The results were released on Wednesday December 16, 2022 by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu at Mitihani House in Nairobi.

The statistics also showed that the number of candidates who were 12 years and below declined.
