2021 Form One Placement Results: The Ministry of Education, MoE has successfully completed the 2021 form one placement exercise for the 2020 KCPE candidates.

According to the Education CS, all the KCPE candidates have been allocated a slot in national, extra-county, county and sub-county secondary schools distributed across the 47 counties based on the 2021 form one selection criteria adopted by the Education Ministry.

The selection criteria used was objective and water-tight guidelines were put in place to ensure equity and fairness.

Parents or guardians are hereby urged to accept the form one placement results and encourage the candidates to fully embrace the schools they have been admitted to since the student capacity differs from one institution to another.

2021 Form One Selection Results for National Schools and Extra County Secondary Schools: Given that the vast majority of the 2020 KCPE top performers went for the traditional national schools, the Education Ministry was forced to adopt a new selection formula to ensure that none of the students missed a slot.

Consequently, some of the 2020 KCPE top students have been placed in the newly elevated national schools spread across the counties.

The Ministry was also forced to lower the pass mark for form one admission to national and extra county secondary schools this year given that the number of KCPE candidates who attained the 400 pass mark is lower.

KUCCPS News Today: The 2021 KCSE candidates sitting for their summative KCSE tests this March-April 2022 have been given a month to pick their 2022 course choices. The deadline for application for Kuccps Placement 2022 has been set on April 1. The application fee is Kshs 500.

Some 831,026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2021 candidates have until April 1 to apply for placement in universities and colleges under government sponsorship.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened the application window yesterday.

This comes two weeks to the Form Four national examination which starts on March14 and ends on April 1.

“This is to notify school principals that the portal is now open for the 2021 application. Submit KCSE candidates’ course choices by April 1, 2022,” reads a notice by KUCCPS.

Each student will pay Sh500 for application fees.

KUCCPS recently reviewed the application criteria that will see cut-off points for joining university pegged on available accommodation and government capitation.

New Kuccps Placement Selection Criteria

Overall, students have 18 choices open to them when making applications. Out of these, are six options for degree courses, four for diploma programmes, and a similar number for craft certificate options. Another four options are available for artisan certificate courses.

Overall, students have 18 choices open to them when making applications. Out of these, are six options for degree courses, four for diploma programmes, and a similar number for craft certificate options. Another four options are available for artisan certificate courses.

For degrees, candidates are expected to list their preferred four courses in the order of priority. Choice number one has three slots for the same programme (in three different universities).

The two-month application window is a wake-up call to teachers and parents amid reports that some teachers failed to guide the students through the course selection process before exams over fears that some could not meet the required grades.

Teachers are expected to assist candidates in picking the courses so as to avoid making the common mistake of selecting high-ranking and competitive courses in top universities.

However, candidates will have a chance to do the first and second course revision after KCSE results are released.

The second revision will only be applicable to candidates who do not merit any of their preferred choices.

For students who fail to secure placement, they will not pay for the second revision. However, the application fee paid at first revision will be applicable during the second revision.

According to KUCCPs, students applying for placement for the first time in the second course revision window, will pay Sh1,500

Last week KUCCPS asked 95,757 students who sat KCSE between 2020 and 2021 and qualified for placement, but haven’t enrolled, to re-apply for courses.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome said those targeted are applicants for diploma, certificate and artisan courses.

Wahome said the government will sponsor all the students who will be successfully placed, including practising professionals who wish to upgrade their skills by taking technical courses.

Qualifications and Requirements for TSC Deployment 2022-2023; Commission Releases New Guidelines

Qualifications and Requirements for TSC Deployment 2022-2023; Commission Releases New Guidelines

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has kicked off a process that will see the first batch involving thousands of primary and secondary school teachers being moved to teach in junior secondary schools.

The Commission has unleashed a plan that will see a good number of teachers being placed to teach in junior secondary starting December this year.

Junior secondary school section involves Grade seven, eight and nine. The current Grade six learners will join junior secondary in January 2023.

The Grade six learners will join junior high after sitting for their final assessment in primary school this November.

The exams known as Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will start on 28th November and end on 30th November 2022.

Details show that only teachers with the required qualifications will be allowed to teach in junior high next year.

Both primary and secondary school teachers and those in special schools will take part in teaching the pioneer Grade 7 learners next year.

For primary school teachers seeking to be deployed to junior secondary they must at least have one of the following qualification;

1. Diploma in Education

2. Higher National Diploma in Education

3. Bachelors Degree in Education

4. Post Graduate Diploma in Education

5. Masters Degree or PhD in Education

In addition the teachers must have been trained in Secondary Teacher Education with at least two teaching subjects.

The teacher must also have scored a mean grade of C+ (Plus) and above at KCSE and must have at least C+ (Plus) and above at KCSE in the two teaching subjects.

TSC says teachers who scored C (Plain) and below at KCSE and joined Universities and studied Bachelors degree in Education (Secondary option) will not be eligible for deployment.

Those who received training on Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) will have an added advantage. The Commission has a list of all primary school teachers who attended CBC trainings.

However primary school teachers will only be used in teaching Grade seven pupils in places where there are acute shortage of secondary school teachers trained to teach junior secondary.

At least 60,000 secondary school teachers were trained to handle Grade Seven and Eight in April this year.

The Commission also trained 120,000 primary school teachers to handle grade six learners in December last year.

Most primary school teachers who meet the requirement to teach in secondary schools will be moved this year and early next year as the Commission plans major recruitment exercise as well as staff balancing.

TSC is in a process to recruit at least 30,000 primary and secondary school teachers in January next year.

P1 teachers who have been complaining of slow pace of deployment process will be surprised this time as TSC plans to move most of them to teach in 8.4.4 secondary schools.

The Commission has also planned to train 116,024 high school teachers in December this year. TSC says the teachers will be trained in preparation for Grade nine class.

Its not clear whether the training will happen. This is after the government move to slash TSC allocation of sh 1.02 billion which it receives annually for training teachers on the new curriculum.

Staffing has been a perennial milestone around TSC’s neck with Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia revealing that the service has a deficit of 114,581 teachers across training colleges, special needs education, curriculum support and primary and secondary schools.

KNEC Has Revealed the 2023 KCSE Grading System

KNEC Has Revealed the 2023 KCSE Grading System. Kenya’s Ministry of Education has introduced a revamped Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) assessment system for 2023. Under this new structure, Ezekiel Machogu, CS Education, announced that mathematics and one language (English, Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language) will be the only compulsory subjects . The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will consider a candidate’s top five subjects, deviating from the previous reliance on seven courses.

The shift is designed to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at certificate and artisan levels, as well as universities and diploma programs, more accessible to a wider range of students. The reform addresses concerns that students with specific strengths faced disadvantage if their preferred subjects did not match the traditional grouping.

The new approach, which moves away from the criticized 8-4-4 assessment system, aims to reduce early school leaving and promote more holistic assessment. English and Kiswahili focus on literacy, while mathematics and any other science course assesses numeracy.

To increase reliability, concerns about formative assessment have led to calls for an external Knec assessment to align with global practice in different countries. The proposed system combines formative and summative assessment to provide effective feedback on student development.

Illustrating the impact of the new grading system, a student’s performance in eight subjects can now result in a B- (minus) of 55 points, an improvement over the previous C+ (plus) of 49 points.

As Kenya takes this bold step in education reform, the new KCSE assessment system promises a more flexible and inclusive approach that aims to cultivate diverse skills and knowledge among students, ultimately shaping a brighter future for Kenya’s youth.

Knec starts process to recruit 4,200 markers for national exams

The national examiner has begun recruiting 4,200 more test markers ahead of 2021 national exams to be done next year.

This comes even as it turned out most of the trained markers did not show up for marking of exams in April and May this year as they complained of low payments and poor working conditions.

Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) Chief Executive Officer David Njeng’ere in an advert yesterday said the council would train examiners for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) tests.

“The training slots are limited and only qualified teachers who have uploaded all the required documents will be shortlisted for the exercise,” said Dr Njeng’ere.

Teachers who qualify have until September 5 to apply and will be required to pay Sh10,500 for the training.

For KCPE examinations, Knec has advertised 700 posts for primary school teachers who wish to train as examiners in English Composition (901/1) and Kiswahili Insha (902/1) papers

For KCSE tests, Knec has floated 3500 posts for secondary school teachers who wish to train as examiners in English 101/1 and 2, Kiswahili 102 / 1 and 2 , Biology 231/1,2 and 3, Chemistry 233/2 and 3, History and Government 311/1 and 2, Christian Religious Education 313/1 and 2 and Agriculture 443/ 1 and 2.

According to Knec, applicants must be practicing teachers in the subjects they wish to mark and must be registered and employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The aspiring examiners must also have a minimum of three years teaching experience and be 50 years of age and below.

KCPE markers must have a P1 certificate and a minimum of C plain in their KCSE level while their KCSE counterparts must have a diploma in Education and above.

“Teachers who already trained as examiners and are in the Knec database of examiners need not to apply for the training,” said Dr Njeng’ere.

The number of examiners has been going down over the years as some leave the teaching service through natural attrition while others have retired.

Teachers have also been demanding for better payments.

In the April/May national examinations, KCSE and KCPE complained about delayed and staggered payments. Knec finally released the payments in early August.

Already, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet) has called for an establishment of payment policies to improve on payment of examiners.

Kuppet wants the TSC to develop the policies guiding the use of teachers by other government agencies.

The KCPE and KCSE 2021 examinations will be done between March and April next year

2020 FORM ONE SELECTION TO NATIONAL SCHOOLS

According to the Ministry of Education, the number of students who will be admitted to national schools will rise next year.

According to The Standard Digital, the Ministry of Education will be obliged to raise the number of students joining national schools due to Kenya’s new education policy-100% transition

Last year, national schools admitted 29, 000 students but due to the higher number of KCPE candidates this year, the Education CS Professor George Magoha will be forced to increase the admission to these schools.

HERE IS THE 2020 FORM ONE SELECTION SYSTEM FOR NATIONAL SCHOOLS

National schools are ranked the highest in Kenya.

This is because they are well equipped with learning resources that facilitate smooth learning.

Unlike County, extra-county and sub-county secondary schools, national schools are few hence paving the way for a stiff competition for KCPE candidates wishing to join them.

Selection is usually done online through the Ministry of Education.

The Teachers Service Commission does not just absorb teachers seeking secondary school teaching vacancies haphazardly. In case you are searching for the 2022 TSC recruitment interview scoresheet commonly referred to as TSC marking scheme for secondary school teachers for the 2022-2023 cycle, click HERE to download it.

TSC INTERVIEW PANEL SCORE SHEET FOR TEACHER INTERNS

Kindly note that the new TSC recruitment scoresheet for secondary school teachers takes into account a wide variety of parameters to ensure fairness and equity among applicants seeking TSC internship positions.

Besides rewarding teachers based on their academic prowess, it takes into account applicants living with a permanent disability, length of stay since the applicant graduated(as indicated in the applicant’s graduation certificate), and finally, the applicant’s ability to communicate coherently and clearly since teaching majorly lies on excellent communication skills.

TSC Internship Recruitment Marking Scheme 2022-2023; Scoring Areas

A). AWARDING OF MARKS BASED ON ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Since the minimum requirements for teachers seeking to fill secondary school teaching vacancies encompass a Diploma and/or a Degree in Education, at this level, the Teachers Service Commission awards marks at two levels as elaborated below

This is HOW TSC Awards Marks for Teachers with a Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) Degree

This is a special preserve for applicants who pursued a Bachelor of Education degree immediately after they stepped foot on the campus. These applicants did not pursue other basic degrees first.

Degree Level TSC Scoring areas Maximum score
Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. BED Degree First Class Honors 35
Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. BED Degree Second Class Upper 30
Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. BED Degree Second Class Lower 25
Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. BED Degree Pass 20

This is HOW TSC Awards Marks for Teachers with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree Plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

These are degree holders who pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree first but later changed their career path and became teachers by pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, PGDE.

Degree Level Scoring areas Maximum score
Bachelor of Arts, BA First Class Honors 35
Bachelor of Arts, BA Second Class Upper 30

Unfortunately, as we move to diploma levels, the maximum score drops by 5 marks from 30 to 25 marks. At some point, however, the commission may amalgamate the scores for both degree and diploma applicants to clear teachers who have overstayed since graduation to shield them from hitting the ceiling-45 years beyond which the Teachers Service Commission(TSC) cannot absorb them.

Diploma Level  Scoring areas Maximum score

This part favors applicants who chose to pursue education either at degree or diploma levels from the word go. This assertion is based on the fact that TSC does not recognize the year of graduation of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree for instance. The applicant is awarded marks based on the year that he or she acquired a PGDE. See the table below

Kazi Mtaani Phase 3 Now Bigger and Better as Government Extends Contract Duration to June 2022, Promises Better Salary Perks by Effecting Pay Rise for Successful Youths engaged in the clean up

Breaking News Kenya Today; successful applicants of the Kazi Mtaani Phase 3 recruitment are a lucky lot following the increase in pay from the previous Kshs 10,000 per month to Kshs 16,000.

Announcing the good news, Housing PS Charles Hinga confirmed that indeed there is light at the end of the tunnel for most unemployed Kenyan youth following the extension of the Kazi Mtaani contract to June 2022.

Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga has announced the extension of Kazi Mtaani programme until the end of next year in June, offering relief to thousands of youths enlisted in the project.

In a statement, Hinga said the Kazi Mtaani Phase 3 is expected to be “bigger and better” and will be implemented in over 900 informal settlements across all 47 counties.

“The expanded phase will equip the youth with skills aimed at creating job opportunities as well as enable them to engage in self-employment. The youth have also received extensive training on life skills such as setting up businesses, HIV/Aids prevention, mental health and counselling, and basic skills in masonry and carpentry,” he stated.

In the first and second phases of the programme, over 280,000 youths were employed from 1,100 informal settlements in the 47 counties.

They planted millions of trees, created access roads, rehabilitated public facilities, built public toilets, and cleaned informal settlements and rivers among other works.

PS Hinga pointed out that so far, over Sh 10 billion has been utilized in the programme which has put food on the table of hundreds of thousands of Kenyans and enabled thousands of youths to start small thriving businesses after COVID-19 rendered many jobless.

“The government has rolled out a web-based application to recruit and pay youth across the country in the Kazi Mtaani programme to safeguard public funds,” said Hinga.

“The recruitment process, which started last Friday ahead of the official launch next month, is being carried out via an online registration portal known as Kazi Mtaani Management System (KMMS),” he said.

KMMS is a mobile and web-based system developed by the Government of Kenya to register and manage Kazi Mtaani beneficiaries across the country. The web application will be used to register/recruit, process the data received from the mobile application, payments and reports; while the mobile application is used to collect workers, clock in and clock out and projects data.

The PS further stated that the web application will register/recruit, process the data received from the mobile application, payments and reports; while the mobile application is used to collect workers, clock in and clock out and projects data.

The Kazi Mtaani Program was launched in April 2020 as a local economic recovery initiative and a form of social protection designed to cushion the youth and vulnerable citizens in informal settlements.

During Mashujaa Day celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta promised that the Kazi Mtaani Project.

TSC Reveals Salaries, Qualifications, Requirements and Selection Criteria for 7, 000 Teachers Lined up for Promotions to Junior Secondary Schools 2022-2023

TSC News Today; The Teachers Service Commission, TSC has released new promotion guidelines 2022-2023 for teachers wishing to be deployed to teach in junior secondary schools starting January 2023 when the first cohort of the new Competence-Based Curriculum CBC will join form One.

Reports reaching us today from the Ministry of Education indicate that the current grade 5 learners will join secondary schools after completing grade 6 syllabus as per the new Competence-Based Curriculum.

Currently, these learners are undertaking Competence-Based Assessment tests, CBA tests that will form the basis of their selection and placement to Junior Secondary Schools come January 2023.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council Knec report on the status of the new Competence-Based Curriculum implementation in Kenya 2021, all CBC learners will be subjected to rigorous internal assessments in schools to determine their areas of strengths and weaknesses. These CBA tests will form part of the final assessment report that will be used to capture learners’ scores instead of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE certificate currently being used in Kenya.

Knec CBA tests will form 60 per cent of the learners’ final score but Knec will administer an independent final assessment to ascertain and serve as a control test before printing an assessment report for every CBC candidate at grade six level come December 2022 in preparation for the roll out of CBC in junior Secondary Schools in January 2023.

Teacher Qualifications (Selection Criteria) for Deployment to Junior Secondary Schools 2022-2023

Any teacher yearning for TSC Deployment to Junior Secondary Schools  must possess  a Degree and Diploma in Special Needs Education, Degree and Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education Diploma in Education (Primary option), Diploma in Education (Secondary option) and Bachelors Degree in Education (Secondary option) if lacking C+ at KCSE or C+ in teaching subjects.

The Commission has at the same time  planned to train 60,000 high school teachers in March and April 2022 in preparation for the rollout of the new Competence-Based Curriculum at the Junior secondary level.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in response to this has already developed syllabus designs from Grade One to Ten.

A report by CBC task force says the total number of 1,250,649 Grade Six and 1,320,395 Standard Eight learners are expected to join secondary school and Form one in January 2023 concurrently.

TSC Salaries for CBC Junior Secondary School Teachers

The deployed teachers to Junior Secondary School will receive deployment letters with details such as monthly salary, name of work station, reporting dates and the junior secondary school posted to. Junior Secondary School teachers will start at job grade C2 with a basic salary scale of Sh. 34,955 per month before being automatically upgraded to job grade C3 after three years as stipulated in Career Progression Guidelines for teachers, enshrined in the new Collective bargaining agreement, CBA 2021-2025.

BLOOMS IS THE WAY TO GO FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE IN SCIENCES DURING KCSE EXAMINATIONS

The Dust On 2020 KCSE Perfomance Has Still Not Settled and Even If It settles We Still Have another Storm Coming When 2021 Exam Is Released In May Next Year.

There Shall still Be An Outcry in the perfomance Of Sciences. We Shall Still Lament, “Had It Not Been For Chemistry, Math And Biology, WE Could Have Done Better”.

Looking At The Sciences, Teachers Did Alot And Prepared Students so well but they made one grave mistake that cost them results-They never focused on BLOOMS TAXONOMY.

According To BLOOMS, A Standard Exam Must Test six core skills :Recall, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation. Those Setting Science Subjects Have Fully Embraced That. Also Science By Its Very Nature Lends itself To Testing Higher Level Skills.

For Many Years Maths Was the Only Subject That Was Poorly Perfomed. Chemistry and Biology were Better Perfomed.

This is Because Maths Has Never Tested Lower Level Skills. You can never Get an A Mathematics Exam Asking Students To Define, State, Mention, Outline, Explain etc. The Action Verbs In Mathematics Exams Has Alsways Been Evaluate, calculate, Find The Value Of etc.

Now the Setting Of Chemistry And Biology Is Fully Embracing BLOOMS Taxonomy. In the recent exam 56% Of Text Items Tested Higher Level Skills. Average Students Were Left With 44 Marks To Battle With. By The Start Of The Exam They Already Could Not Score Above C.

Higher Level Testing Is still The Same Case With Biology Where Students Are Being Tested On How To Interpret, Analyze, infer and Apply Concepts As opposed To Memorazation Of Facts.

The Whole Of Last, Champions Kept Singing About Emerging Trends In The Setting And Marking Of KCSE and Matters BLOOMS Were One Of the Choruses .

The Only Certainty I Know Is The Schools Will Still Perfom Poorly In The Sciences Until The Day They Shall Start pressing BLOOMS Button.

Let Science Teachers Press That Button. Let Science Teachers Study Action Verbs that Test higher Level Skills and Start using Those Action Verbs In Setting Internal Exams.

For How Long Shall They Continue Ignoring This Basic Fact Knowing Well Enough That Is the Route KNEC Has Taken.

Wether They Like It Or Not They Shall Go Round And Round The Mountain of Average Perfomance Till The Day They Shall Start Applying BLOOMS.

A Careful Study Of KNEC Reports and A Revision Of Past KCSE Papers Will Help Expose Students To The Nature Of Exams To Expect. Sample Bloom Questions Are A button Away In Google.

Chemistry and Biology Can Still Be Perfomed Well. Let Us not create a picture That These Subjects are Tough. Almost Every School In This Country Had An A In Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.

Don’t Say Even School So Did Not Perfom Well In Biology, We Have Many Schools In This Country That Got A Mean Score Of 8 And Above.

When You Visit The Science Departments In Those Schools And Look At Their Internal Exams You Won’t Find Test Items Like Label The Part Marked X. Internal Exams Are Set Inline With BLOOMS and So Students Are Equipped With Analytical Skills From Early Time.

To The Science Teachers, The Sun Shall Not Rise Again unless You Become proactive and Master The standard Practices In The Setting Of Science Exams Where BLOOMS Must Be The Standard Benchmark
