TSC to recruit 5, 000 tutors on permanent and pensionable terms, 10, 000 intern teachers to seal glaring gaps in the teaching sector

At last, teachers who have been patiently waiting for the TSC recruitment process can take a deep sigh of relief after TSC Boss Dr. Nancy Macharia revealed plans by the Commission to recruit 5, 000 tutors on Permanent and Pensionable Terms and 10, 000 More on internship basis.

This revelation by the Commission provides a glimmer of hope for teacher graduates who have tarmacked for more than three years with the hope of landing a better paying job at the TSC.

While appearing before the National Assembly Education Committee, Nancy Macharia said that the Commission requires Kshs 1.2 billion to execute the plan.

This move is highly welcome especially now that the Commission has released a list of counties with bitting teacher shortages in Kenya.

According to the data released by the TSC, the North Eastern region leads with some counties recording up to 50 percent teacher shortages.

Most of the affected areas are largely hardship.

According to Dr. Macharia’s report presented before the Parliamentary Education Committee on May 15, 2020, Turkana County has got the highest primary school teachers’ deficit. According to the TSC report, the county requires 1, 762 TSC teachers to effectively implement its 100 percent transition policy. This translates to 51.4 percent.

In the second position comes Mandera County with a teacher shortage of 48.6 percent. The education sector needs a total of 48, 173 TSC teachers to bridge the gap.

Bomet and Bungoma Counties on the other hand have got the highest number of BOM teachers these are 2, 130, and 2, 028 respectively.
