Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

About the Kenya Medical Training College, KMTC

Situated about three kilometers on the northern side of Nairobi city, Kenya,  KMTC headquarters and the main campus, Nairobi, stand on a 20-acre piece of land, opposite Kenyatta National Hospital, along Old Mbagathi Road.

With over 34,000 students attending more than 70 medical courses, KMTC makes the biggest single contribution to the health sector in Kenya and is currently producing more than 8000 graduates every year for both the Kenyan public and private health sectors, accounting for more than 80 percent of the hospitals’ workforce.

The institution boasts of a highly qualified and experienced teaching and administrative staff. It has astrength of over 1,900 members of staff.

The 2019 KMTC 87th Graduation Ceremony Notice

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is pleased to inform all graduands, students, staff, parents and the general public that the 87th Annual Graduation Ceremony will be held on Thursday December 5, 2019 at the KMTC Graduation Square, Nairobi, at 10.00 am.
Graduands should be seated by 8.00am.

Graduation fee

Graduands must pay a graduation fee of Kshs 2,500.00 at any National Bank, KMTC H/Q REVENUE A/C: 01003058521700.

Graduation gown, booklet and invitation card

Graduation gown, booklet and invitation card will be issued STRICTLY between Wednesday November 13 and Friday, November 29, 2019 at KMTC Nairobi, to graduands who will have paid the graduation fee.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will be held on December 4, 2019 at 10.00 am at the KMTC graduation square. Graduands should be seated by 9.00am in full graduation attire. Only those who will attend rehearsals will be allowed to join the graduation ceremony

Certificates

Certificates shall be issued immediately after the graduation ceremony to graduands who have cleared with the College and upon return of the graduation gown.

Return of gown

Gowns should be returned on or before December 16, 2019. Late return of gowns shall attract a penalty of Kshs 100 per day.

Sat for your KCSE examination and attained the minimum University Entry Grade and have been selected to join University? Well. Congratulations for this your major achievement. Students joining Alupe University College (AUC) are selected by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KCCPS. The students are selected after doing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examination and getting the minimum University entry requirement. The KCSE students must first apply to KUCCPS to be selected to preferred programmes. The students can apply at school level or apply individually during the first and second revision windows.

Once the applications are closed, KUCCPS then places the KCSE students in preferred courses depending on the student’s score, number of available vacancies against applicants among other selection criteria. In not satisfied with the University that you have been selected to join then you can apply for Inter-Institution Transfer.

ABOUT THE COURSE

The bachelor of science in medical social work will not only contribute in enhancing the standards of health care services in the region, but will also help institutions of higher learning churn out razor sharp researchers.  This is in line with the changing trends of healthcare services that now focus more on evidence-based practice of which medical social work education and practices embrace. The program will immensely contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) 1, 3 and 8. These are to: “eradicate poverty in all its forms everywhere”, “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and to “promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all” respectively by 2030.

Various accredited universities offer Courses in Education for prospective students who want to be teachers. The universities have course specific requirements for the various Arts and Sciences courses. They also offer various teaching subjects combinations. Egerton University has three (3) Campuses and one Campus College. The main Campus is based at Njoro and houses the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Social Sciences, Education and Community Studies, Engineering and Technology, Environment and Resources Development, Science and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. The Njoro Campus also houses the Board of Undergraduate Studies and Field Attachment, and the Board of Postgraduate Studies. The other Campus is the Nairobi City Campus, offering programmes from the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Commerce, and Education and Community Studies. It also hosts the African Centre for Distance Education (ACDE). The third Campus, Kenyatta Campus, is located five (5) kilometres from Njoro Campus and is planned to house the Open and Distance Learning (CODL) programmes which is currently based at Njoro Campus. The only University’s Campus College, Nakuru Town Campus College, hosts the Faculties of Commerce and Health Sciences. The University currently has nine (9) faculties and fifty one (51) academic departments offering a wide range of programmes at diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. All of them are open to both Government-sponsored and selfsponsored students. The university offers a wide range of education courses in its Faculty of Education.

Admission Requirements

Candidates admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Science) must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements of the Egerton University. They must also satisfy departmental requirements before registering for courses in the respective departments. In satisfying the minimum entrance requirements of the University, candidates must have passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with the minimum grades against each subject as indicated below: C+ in Mathematics C+ in any of the following:
  • (i) Physics (ii)
  • Chemistry
  • (iii) Biology
  • (iv) Geography or B- in any of the following subjects: Physical Sciences Biological sciences Alternatively, admission may be granted to holders of Diploma/S1 certificate in science Education from Institutions recognised by Egerton University provided the diplomas are at credits and above.
Bachelor of Education Course Requirements:
  1. Mean grade C+ (Plus) at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects,
  2. 2 principal passes at A’Level and 1 subsidiary in relevant subjects,
  3. Diploma in Education (May be exempted in relevant units).
  4. P1 teachers must have scored C+ at KCSE to qualify.
