Knec Pay Date for 2022 Invigilators and Supervisors; Knec Confirms Plans to Pay dues for Contracted Professionals in June 2022 (Details)

Teachers who took part in supervision of last year’s KCPE and KCSE exams will have to wait longer for the examiner to effect payment.

A total of 242,406 teachers were contracted by Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) to help with supervision and marking of the 2021 national exams.

The delay by Knec in paying teachers who invigilated and supervised the exams has led to protests by teachers in various platforms.

Some teachers have threatened not to take part in the exercise again should Knec fail to pay them promptly.

Sources close to the Council have however revealed that there is no payment in sight for teachers who managed the exams.

Knec has so far only paid teachers who were involved in marking of the KCPE and KCSE exams.

According to our sources the money will be paid to the teachers’ accounts starting June, next month.

Among those listed for payments are the contracted professionals who include Centre Managers (Principals and Head Teachers), Supervisors, Invigilators and Security Personnel.

A week ago, Treasury CAS Eric Wafukho assured teachers that the money to pay them for supervising the exams was already planned for and that there should be no panic as everything will be taken care of.

Wafukho said the government through the Treasury rolled out financing of the whole examination activities including paying teachers, drivers and security personnel.

According to payment details released by the Council, primary school heads who act as Centre Managers for the KCPE exams pocket a daily subsistence allowance of Sh500 for a total of 4 days including rehearsal day.

Secondary school Principals on the other hand, earn a daily allowance of Sh500 for 18 days.

The highest paid Supervisor walks away with a sum total of sh12,510 while the highest paid invigilator gets sh 9860.

The examiner does not pay deputy head teachers and principals despite being present at the school present during the examination period as assistant Centre Managers.

Knec also does not include for payment teachers handling science subjects who prepare and administer practicals during the KCSE examinations.

A total of 831,015 candidates registered for the KCSE examination which were administered in 10,413 centres.

The examination papers and other materials were served from 483 distribution centres.

The council registered 1,225,507 KCPE candidates in 28,316 examination centres which were served from 491 distribution centres.

Knec merged centres that had less than 30 candidates to cut down on the cost of logistics. This affected 151 centres whose candidates were hosted elsewhere.

Knec had invited teachers in March to apply for the marking exercise. KCPE examiners were to apply from 4th March while those marking KCSE from 14th March.

About Alliance High School

Category; Public, government-sponsored

Admission Policy; 100% transition

Form Admission; Dictated by the Ministry of Education guidelines including KCPE merit, Affirmative Action, and Regional Balance

Alliance High School 2022 Form One Selection; Admission Letters and List

Admissions: form one selection, application, enrolment rate, criteria, and requirements, admission letters, and placement list

The school admits at least 300 students per year.  This cohort is usually selected by the Ministry of Education to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all students in Kenya. The selection of students to the school is evenly distributed across all the 47 counties in Kenya.

The main selection criterion when it comes to Form one selection and placement is the students’ previous performance in KCPE results.

Interested applicants should however tender their interest when selecting their preferred secondary schools at the primary level long before the KCPE results get released.

Worth noting is the fact that picking the school as your first choice is not a direct ticket to the institution. Any student who wishes to join the school must attain the pass mark set by the Ministry of Education.

Form one admission: form one selection: criteria, list, and letters (Calling/placement Letters)

Unlike in the past when some parents and school heads could influence the form one selection list, this year’s selection is done by the MOE and it is purely based on the student’s KCPE marks.

Click HERE to access form one school selection system for national schools.

Have you been selected to join this school? Congratulations on making it this far. For a full list of all students who have been selected to join the institution at form one level, you can visit the school’s portal online or the institution.

Speaking during the release of the 2024 KCSE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba commended the learners and attributed the performance to the new grading system that was implemented in 2023.

In the new system, only two mandatory subjects; Mathematics and one language (either English, Kiswahili or Kenya Sign Language) are used to compute the mean grade as compared to the previous structure that considered five subjects across three cluster groups.

He added that the number of candidates with direct university entry qualifications (grade C+ and above) rose to 246,391 (25.53 per cent) compared to 201,133 (22.27 per cent) in 2023.

In addition, 840 candidates’ results were cancelled after they engaged in exam irregularities. A further 2,829 candidates’ results were withheld for suspicion of irregularities pending completion of investigations within 30 days.

Tough Measures for KCSE 2024 Candidates as Knec Casts Net for Malpractice

The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, has upgraded its game, bringing into play several new more stringent measures to curb cheating. In case you missed out, get a quick glimpse of these new policies below:

Among the measures are the personalization of the examination papers to ensure each is unique to a candidate, the rotation of supervisors; as well as a ban on phones for the invigilators, centre managers and candidates during exams.

The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be administered from October 22 to November 22, 2024, while the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will be held from October 28 to November 1, 2024.

One of the key innovations is the personalization of KCSE question papers for each candidate.

According to Knec, this move is designed to prevent cheating by ensuring that each candidate’s exam paper is unique.

Knec CEO David Njengere emphasized that this measure will also enhance the security of the exams by anonymizing the answer scripts during marking, thereby reducing the chances of malpractice and ensuring fairness in the grading process.

This means that the examiners won’t be able to identify the owner of the script, as it will only contain a signature.

“This measure is expected to boost exam security by anonymizing answer scripts during the marking process. The KCSE question papers will be personalized for every candidate. This will help anonymise the answer scripts during marking. More details on this innovation will be shared with supervisors and invigilators during the Sub- County briefing sessions,” said Dr Njengere.

The new system aims to streamline the marking of the 2024 KCSE exams, set to be taken by 965,501 candidates across 10,755 centers, an increase from 903,260 in 2023.

Additionally, Knec will administer the KPSEA to 1,313,913 candidates in 32,573 centers, bringing the total number of candidates for national exams to over 2.27 million. Knec has also revised the deployment of security officers.

For the KPSEA exams, security personnel will now only be involved in the distribution and collection of exam materials.

However, the standard practice of deploying at least two security officers to each KCSE examination center will continue.

Another significant change concerns the use of mobile phones during exams. All staff involved in exam administration, such as supervisors, invigilators, and center managers, will now be required to secure their mobile phones in lockable desks, monitored by security officers.

This step, Knec said, is intended to minimize any potential misconduct and ensure the integrity of the examination process.

“No phones will be allowed during the opening of the exam papers or while the exams are in progress. Phones will be secured in local desks under the supervision of a security officer, with the center holding the key,” said Dr Njegere.

Ms Antonina Lentoijoni, the Director Staffing, Teacher Service Commission (TSC), emphasised that supervisors and invigilators will not be deployed to examination centers where they have vested interests. Instead, they will be required to declare any affiliations with the centers where they will be assigned.

“They will be required to declare any affiliations with the examination centers where they will be assigned,” said Ms Lentoijoni
Ms Lentoijoni said that they have introduced a rotation system for KCSE supervisors.

Each supervisor will serve at an examination center for only one week before being reassigned.

This strategy is designed to minimize familiarity with the centers and further enhance examination security.

“All KCSE supervisors will be required to serve for only one week at any examination center. They will keep rotating every week. I am confident that even after we have nominated them, none of them will know the centers they will be assigned to. They will be supervised as we sit here today,” said Ms Lentoijoni.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba highlighted that KNEC has expanded the number of distribution centers for KCSE materials by adding 41 new centers which sums up otal to 617, ensuring a smoother and more efficient distribution of exam papers nationwide.

“When we compromise our interventions, we compromise the standards of our certificates, all of us, and that affects our economy, I wish to assure you that the country that the challenges experienced in 2023 in the collection of examination materials for the KCSE twice a day have been addressed by introducing an extra 41 containers,” said Mr Ogamba.

Further, the CS issued a stern warning regarding examination malpractices, urging all candidates, managers, and supervisors to strictly comply with the laid-down examination regulations, cautioning that failure to do so would result in facing “the full force of the law.

“The government shall have no mercy on anyone who will be found engaging in the transmission of examination malpractices,” said Mr Ogamba.

The CS currently, 16,000 classrooms are being constructed to accommodate the new learning requirements. The CS, having toured several counties to monitor progress, expressed confidence that all classrooms will be ready ahead of the 2025 academic calendar.

“We are constructing 16,000 classrooms in our junior schools that will accommodate them IN 2025,” said Mr Ogamba.

CS Magoha’s Full Statement on the PROGRESS OF THE 2020 KCSE NATIONAL EXAMINATION 2021

CS Magoha's Full Statement on the PROGRESS OF THE 2020 KCSE NATIONAL EXAMINATION 2021

The 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination, now on its 12th Day, has progressed excellently well countrywide. Despite the heavy rains pounding some parts of the country, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has delivered all examination papers to all centres leading to a smooth exercise.

Although the first batch of candidates cleared sitting all their papers on April 12, 2021, others will continue sitting their remaining examination papers until the last day, Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

I wish to assure all parents that the Ministry has already put place measures to ensure a smooth travel of all candidates to all their home counties, including those entering, leaving or passing through the five counties of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado that have been put under travel restrictions as part of the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

As we head towards the tail-end of the KCSE examinations, I wish to implore on all officials working under the Multi-Agency Examinations Monitoring Team to not let their legs off the pedal until the exercise is fully completed by all the 752,891 registered candidates.

This will help us maintain the integrity of the national examinations, as we have done over the last five years. As I informed the country two weeks ago, we have been battling with a few cases of early exposure of some papers during this examination.

Although we have been decisive and ruthless in our pursuit of the masterminds of these unethical pratice, we regrettably note that some of them are determined to go to any lengths in a bid to expose the contents of the examination papers once they are released in the morning to schools after 6am.

This morning, for example, we are pursuing examination officials who exposed the contents of the Agriculture Paper to some candidates. Firm action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Over the last week, using our impermeable security features of the examinations, 11 examination officials including centre managers, supervisors and invigilators have been arrested over attempts to expose some of the KCSE examination papers as follows:

I wish to assure the country that these attempts to access the examinations have not interfered with the credibility of the examinations as the exposed questions were never accessed by the candidates.

We warn anyone who intends to compromise the integrity of the examinations that tough action will be meted out to them.

All the remaining examination materials will remain safely kept to ensure the sanctity of the ongoing examinations.
