TSC TPD Latest News 2021: How Members of Parliament, MPs reacted to the Introduction of Compulsory Teacher Professional Development, TPD Refresher Courses

In a nutshell,

TSC TPD News 2021 – 2022; Concerning the TPD charges, the teachers’employer TSC has honoured its part of the bargain confirming that it will pay for TPD refresher modules as earlier directed by Parliament. A total of 1.16 billion has been set aside for the 2022-2023 financial cycle. Legislatures had stated clearly that teachers have committed their salaries therefore the employer should fund the program.

TSC TPD Latest News 2021: How Members of Parliament, MPs reacted to the Introduction of Compulsory Teacher Professional Development, TPD Refresher Courses

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC recently rolled out Teacher Professional Development, TPD, refresher courses for all teachers.

According to the Commission, all teachers are expected to enroll for these refresher courses and horn their teaching skills and nourish their professional knowledge.

Teachers, who are the key stakeholders are however dissatisfied with the decision and feel pushed to the wall now that their employer is not planning to meet the cost of TPD training.

This is what prompted the Members of Parliament to hold a discussion on the newly introduced Teacher Professional Development TPD modules.

According to a petition brought to the house by Honourable Omboko Milemba, the members of parliament have demonstrated their support for teachers against the compulsive action by Teachers Service Commission to force teachers to go back to class. According to the circular from the commission, all teachers in public schools must undergo teacher professional development course every six months, a programme set to be offered in four chosen universities.

Luckily, members of parliament have argued that teachers are human beings like other government employees and should not be subjected to such stress. The move by the commission contravenes labour practice which protects employees from being forced to undertake refresher courses without proper structure. Further arguments include the manner in which the four universities were chosen terming it suspicious. Concerning the charges they have been called upon to pay for the course, legislatures stated that teachers have committed their salaries therefore the employer should fund the program.

This is How TPD will Work

TSC TPD Programme
The Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme was officially launched by KNUT’s Collins Oyuu, KUPPET’s Akello Misori, KUSNET’s James Torome, and TSC CEO Nancy Macharia on 22 September 2021.

The main aim of TPD training is to provide professional development of teachers.

TPD raining targets TSC teachers in primary and secondary schools for both private and public schools.

Some of the higher institutions of learning that have been selected by TSC to offer TPD training like Mount Kenya University, Kenyatta University, Riara, Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), etc. have opened applications for the TPD training that is set to start in December 2021.

Only TSC registered teachers are eligible for TSC TPD training.

TPD training Cost

Teachers will be required to pay Ksh 6,000 per year. Therefore, after 30 years of TPD training, the teacher would have paid Kenya Shillings 180,000.

Mode of TPD learning

Teachers will be able to learn face to face and online. Face-to-face learning shall be done during the school holidays. Teachers can take TPD online courses during their free time in school.

MKU has indicated that a TPD Mobile App will soon be available for teachers to download and install on their phones. The TPD Mobile App will be used for payments, registration process, access to learning resources, and communication.

TPD Course outline (Modules and Chapters)

TPD course is divided into modules and chapters (units).

Introduction module: Has five chapters and takes one year to complete (1 Year)
Level 1 Module: Has 5 chapters and each chapter takes one year to complete. Therefore, it takes 5 years to complete level one module. The same applies to Level 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Level 2 module: 5 years (5 chapters)
Level 3 module: 5 years (5 chapters)
Level 4 module: 5 years (5 chapters)
Level 5 module: 5 years (5 chapters)
Level 6 module: 5 years (5 chapters)
A teacher is only allowed to take a maximum of 7 years per level. It, therefore, takes a minimum of 31 years to complete the TPD course.

TPD Certificate and Transcript

Teachers will be issued with a transcript after completion of each chapter. TSC will also be sent a copy of the transcript.

A certificate will also be issued after completion of the TPD course. The certificate must be renewed after every five years.

HOW TO EXCHANGE A CURRENCY

Are you are set for life overseas or planning to travel for a relatively long time?

In the course of your preparation, you must get to know how you will get your cash exchanged without experiencing any niche.

Even if credit cards are accepted in most countries, there still comes a moment when you may need to exchange your cash, and based on your destination, you may need more than just cash.

When exchanging money, there are so many options but you can stick to these simple rules to save your money every time you exchange currency and get the best rates:

1. DO NOT EXCHANGE CASH BEFORE YOU DEPART
There is usually a lot of debate on whether you should exchange money in your country before leaving or not.

A few travellers may opt to have some little cash with them when they land in a foreign country.

However, if you want to have the best rates possible, wait until you land or arrive then exchange your currency.

This is because overseas exchange rates are higher compared to getting the right currency in-country.

According to a travel expert, travellers and tourists should wait until they arrive to withdraw money.

2. DO NOT EXCHANGE CASH AT THE AIRPORT
Airport currency exchange deals are not the better option. currency kiosks that are located near popular tourist destinations are not good deals too. This is because they come at a higher fee and wider exchange margin.

If you exchange your dollars for local currency after landing and then changed the remaining local currency into dollars, you will end up losing money two times.

If you want to be safe, exchange your currency at a financial institution, not at an airport.

A bank or a credit union charge relatively little fee.

3. USE AN ATM TO OBTAIN CASH
Withdraw cash directly from the ATM instead of exchanging notes.

You should, however, note that not all banks have foreign transaction or ATM fees. This may pose a challenge when you want to withdraw cash in the local currency.

The charges for withdrawing cash in the local currency can also vary within the range of $1 to $5 and a debit transaction fee of up to 3%.

You should, therefore, conduct some thorough research to obtain a card with the best rates and reduce the number of ATM withdrawals.

You also need to notify your bank before travelling abroad so they do not lock your card for what may appear as fraud.

4. GO FOR A CREDIT CARD THAT DOES NOT ATTRACT FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEES
Be wise when swiping your credit cards since credit cards attract more fee on top of the interbank rate.

According to a travel expert from Fodors, use your credit card for mega purchases only.

You should also avoid taking an advance on your credit card unless it is extremely necessary.

Pay in the currency of your host country to avoid losing money in the name of exchange rates and a hidden 3 to 3.5% privilege fee.

5. REMEMBER, EXCHANGE RATES APPLY TO MONEY TRANSFERS
When sending money back home, ensure you get the best deal possible.

Exchange rates differ depending on the transfer method. For instance, OFX has an exchange rate of less than 1% whereas MoneyGram charges up to 4%.

#SAVE YOUR MONEY WHILE TRAVELLING ABROAD.

This is Why Coronavirus is Wreaking More Havoc Among the Black -American Communities

BBC has revealed disturbing news in the wake of the Coronavirus in the US. This follows the release of statistics from Chicago health officials. It is coming out that the blacks living in Chicago account for half of the entire Covid 19 cases in the city and more than 70% of deaths, despite constituting  30% of the population.

It is disturbing also that other cities with huge black populations like New Orleans, Milwaukee, Detroit and Newyork have become the new Covid 19 hotspots.

The records further reveal that a total of 370,000 Americans are infected with this virus while about 11,000 people have succumbed to the virus.

This is against a backdrop of 75,000 deaths and 1.3 Million infections cases globally.

Why is it that the virus is devastating to more blacks compared to others?  Could it be linked to their living conditions? Is it not disturbing that blacks account for 41% of Covid-19 fatalities, despite making up to 14% of the population in Illinois?

It is on record also that the black city residents had a lower life expectancy compared to their white counterparts. According to the Chicago public health commissioner, Dr. Allison Arwady, the blacks already lived on average about 8.8 years less than the white population.

Nationally, data has revealed that vulnerability to the infection may vary from one neighborhood to another. A case in point is the data of the infections and deaths from Michigan. Black Americans make up 14% of the entire population, however, they account for 33% of the covid 19  cases and 41% of deaths, according to the state health department.

Another case in point is data from Detroit and Michigan. It reveals that 80% of the confirmed Covid19 cases are blacks who constitute about 80% of the population here.

According to mayor Lightfoot,  respiratory diseases, heart conditions and diabetes were very common among the blacks living in this city. This was associated with food and lack of exercise due to lack of walkable streets by Dr, Awards.

Dr, Cameron Webb, a black American physician is on record telling the BBC that the racial and economic disparities were being pronounced by the pandemic. He said that “ it exposes our society’s fault lines”

Secondary schools in Kenya are graded into four main cadres that is National level, Extra-county level, county level and sub-county level. The current education CS has on many occasions advised parents and guardians to apply for placement of their grade six KPSEA candidates to join day schools near their homes as opposed to KCSE top performing secondary schools since the new CBC curriculum is competency based and not examination oriented.

Form One Placement (Selection) Results 2022; Form One Placement Letters Released Today. Check Pdf Download through this procedure

The ministry of education has released the 2021 form one selection list. As earlier pointed out, once the selection is over, each candidate will be required to send their index numbers to 22263 to know which secondary school they have been allocated.

As a matter of fact, there are those parents who could wish to take their children to the school of their choice. To achieve this, there is a protocol to be followed in order to change the placed school by the ministry of education. This is because, each candidate has a NEMIS number which if you have to change the school, you have to follow this procedure;

1. The parent should place a request to the school of interest where he or she wants his kid to school from. The preferred school will then carry out the shortlisting depending on the vacancies they have.

2. The school through NEMIS via this link https://nemis.education.go.ke/ will send the information to the ministry of education to capture the student in the new school.

3. Then approval will be done depending on the category of school where the student fit.

4. Once the approval is over, the student will be transferred from the previous school to the new school.

5. Parent will now be able to download admission letters for the new school.

HOW TO SEND AN SMS TO RECEIVE 2022 FORM ONE SELECTION RESULTS.

It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education to place all the 2021 KCPE candidates to their secondary school of choice.

The Ministry places the students to all public National, Extra County, County and Sub County schools.

Placement of the KCPE 2021 candidates is done based on criteria set by the Ministry of Education. Top on the list of factors that the Ministry considers is the candidate’s performance (total marks) in the KCPE 2021 examinations.

Students with the highest scores (Over 400) are always placed at National Schools.

The vice versa is versa is true as students with lowest scores are placed in Sub County schools.

Another criteria that is considered is affirmative action; where the cut off marks for form one selection is lowered considerably for vulnerable groups of students.

The general performance at the KCPE examinations is also a key determinant in determining the cut-off points for the various categories of schools.

Last, but not least, the form one admissions is pegged on the specific schools’ Form one capacities. This is the maximum number of form one students that a school can accommodate; based on the available space and physical facilities.

Schools can request for change of 2022 form one placements (Adjustment of school’s form one capacity).

Where the capacity of a school has improved due to development of additional facilities in the year, a principal must request for placement of additional students and approval in NEMIS.

After the application, the Ministry reviews and adjusts the school’s form one capacity; usually by allowing the school to admit more form one students.
