The Ministry of Education has just released the reporting dates for all 2020 form one students.

The reporting date set by the Ministry of Education is between Monday 13th January to Friday 17th January 2019.

This means that the new entrants into Kenyan secondary schools have only one week- 7 days extra to prepare themselves adequately as opposed to the other form two, three and four students.

FORM ONE SELECTION TO NATIONAL SCHOOLS

33, 000 2019 KCPE candidates have already received invitation letters to join National schools.

There are 186 national schools in Kenya distributed across all the 47 counties where these students will join.

SECOND SELECTION

Professor Magoha has confirmed that there will be no second selection for form one students’ admission since this first selection was done based on merit, choice and equity.

Professor Magoha said this during the official release of the 2020 form one admission results on 2nd December, 2019.

PANGANI GIRLS 2020 FORM ONE ADMISSION

According to the Ministry of Education’s statistics, Pangani Girls High attracted the highest number of 2019 KCPE candidates, 111,817 learners who picked the school as their first choice/option.

Unfortunately, Pangani Girls can only accommodate 336 form one students given its low capacity.

Alliance Girls also attracted 83, 489 whereas Kenya High lured 9, 797 2019 KCPE applicants.

2020 FORM ONE ADMISSION LETTERS

2020 Form One Admission Letters to National, Extra-County, County and Sub-County secondary schools will be available for download at the Ministry of Education’s official website below

https://www.education.go.ke/

Schools have also received individual students’ admission letters which have already been uploaded onto the National Education Management Information System, NEMIS Portal below

https://nemis.education.go.ke/

KCPE candidates who only selected two schools out of eleven will count themselves unlucky since they will be forced to join schools they never chose.

OVERWHELMING NUMBERS

CS Magoha further challenged Members of Parliament to construct more schools within their constituencies to cater for the overwhelming numbers of Kenyan learners who would wish to quench their thirst for education.

Mombasa and Nairobi are the worst hit when it comes to school shortages. Consequently, some learners had to be forcefully placed in Extra county and County secondary schools outside their home counties.

CS MAGOHA ON ELIMU SCHOLARSHIPS

CS Magoha also urged learners to apply for the Elimu Scholarship to receive financial aid which can propel them through secondary school education.

TSC Deployment letters for teachers

TSC latest news on promotions.

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, issues a deployment letter to a teacher upon appointment. In deployment process a teacher is appointed to an administrative position or a higher administrative position. If you are lucky, you can be deployed to the Secretariat of the Commission.

Deployment also comes when you are posted from a primary institution to a post primary institution.

It is a dream of many teachers to be promoted and deployed by TSC. Not everyone, though, who gets deployed. This is because the number of administrative posts are limited and very competitive.

WHEN CAN A TEACHER BE DEPLOYED BY TSC?

Deployment comes in the form of the following:

When you are appointed to an administrative position;

If you are appointed to a higher administrative position;

When you are appointed to the Commission’s secretariat;

When appointed to perform administrative duties; and

When you are posted from a primary to a post primary institution.

A few teachers get appointment to administrative posts. If you are lucky, then you can be deployed by TSC as a:

(a) Head of institution;

(b) Deputy head of institution;

(c) Registrar;

(d) Dean of Curriculum;

(e) Dean of Students;

(f) Head of Department;

(g) Senior Teacher; or

(h) Head of Subject.

In all the above scenarios, a teacher receives a deployment letter from the employer. In most cases, deployment comes after you have successfully been promoted after an interview process.

You may also find the following useful:

TSC letter of probationary appointment for newly posted teachers

TSC interdiction letter

TSC transfer letter

TSC Show cause letter for teachers

TSC Offer of employment letter (Appointment letter)

TSC confirmation letter

TSC regret letters; What can make a teacher to get a regret letter from TSC

TSC REDEPLOYMENT LETTER.

There are also a few unlucky teachers who get redeployed by TSC. In this case you will be served with a redeployment letter.

As captured in the Code of Regulations for teachers, the Commission may redeploy a teacher who has been deployed to any administrative position, within an educational institution to perform normal teaching duties where the teacher;

(a) is unable to perform the functions of the office so held;

(b) is incompetent or neglects administrative duties;

(c) continuously posts declining examination results;

(d) has poor financial management skills;

(e) neglects or fails to maintain proper records;

(0 is the subject of investigations for an offence under these Regulations; or

(g) performs any other act that in the opinion of the Commission justifies re-deployment.

Live Release of 2023/2024 Form One Selection (Placement) Results; CS Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday

Get Ready for the Live Release of 2023/2024 Form One Selection (Placement) Results! CS Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday

Cs Machogu to Release Form One Placement Results on Monday: It is now confirmed! The release of this year’s form one placement results will take place on Monday this week. This follows the completion of the 2023/2024 form one selection exercise that has been marred by controversy on Friday.

Confirming this,  CS Machogu said that the  announcement will take place in Nairobi, crowning the two-week placement exercise.

The 2023 KCPE candidates are now waiting with bated breath to see which schools they have been selected to join come January 2024.

The 2024 Form 1 placement selection kicked off on November 27 and concluded on December 11 with the aim of ensuring fairness for all 2023 KCPE candidates.

The CS emphasized the ministry’s commitment to a transparent and equitable system for Form 1 placement.

During the release of the 2023 KCPE results at Mtihani House, Machogu disclosed that the top KCPE candidate attained 428 marks, with only two cases of exam malpractice reported.

This is how this year’s form one placement slots will be shared

Govt Formula on Sharing Form One Slots. The Ministry of Education is done with the selection process for candidates who have recently sat for the  2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations. Despite 8,523 candidates scoring 400 points and above, national schools can only accommodate only 5,570 students. To address this issue, the Department designed a placement system aimed at ensuring a balance between national, regional and socio-economic factors.

With 1,406,577 applicants waiting for secondary school placement, the process is computerized and takes two weeks. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu assures that a fair and transparent system is in place and stresses that all examinees will have the opportunity to transfer to secondary school.

It is noteworthy that this is the last year for KCPE and candidates who missed the exam but were in Standard Eight have a chance to take a special test in January. Selection criteria for national schools take into account student selection, overall and individual performance and the type of school attended, whether public or private. However, private schools have raised concerns about perceived bias in the selection process.

Traditionally, candidates who score 400 points and above secure places in national schools with the option of selection based on performance, affirmative action and school improvement. Students choose from national, non-district, district and sub-district institutions, while admission forms can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education portal.

While public secondary school students qualify for sponsorship through the Free Day Secondary Education programme, placement results are expected before Christmas, allowing Form One students to start their studies in January 2024.

TSC News Today: Top 10 Less Popular Counties and Regions Among Secondary School Teachers Seeking Transfers

Samburu and Turkana among the Less Popular Counties among Teachers Seeking Transfers TSC Report Reveals

TSC News Today; The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has revealed crucial statictics that may shape TSC recruitment and transfer trends in future. According to TSC Transfer List 2023, Samburu County tails in the Top 10 most preferred counties by teachers seeking transfers this year after receiving only 9 transfer requests. Turkana County also followed suit after revceiving 23 transfer requests only.

s/no County Transfer Requests From (Secondary) Transfer Requests To Region Year
1. Samburu 94 9 Rift Valley 2023
2. Turkana 127  23 North Eastern 2023

Nationally, 36,277 teachers applied for transfers between November 1 last year and January 31 this year, according to data submitted by the commission to the Senate Committee on Education. Of these transfer requests, 14,733 were matched and approved while 21,544 are pending.

Top 10 Less Popular Counties and Regions among Teachers Seeking TSC Transfers

  1. Samburu County=9 transfer requests
  2. Turkana County=23 transfer requests

During the period, 1,885 teachers applied to be transferred to the capital city against 76 who requested to be transferred out of Nairobi. However, only 41 of the requests out of 1,162 to primary schools and four to secondary schools out of 723 had been approved by the end of January.

During the same period, 45 primary school teachers left the capital while only one secondary school teacher left. The highest number of primary school teachers (1,336) applied to be transferred to Bungoma County but also 1,074 others want to be transferred out of the county.

The deal to reverse the delocalisation policy is contained in principle in the non-monetary collective bargaining agreement (CBA) teachers unions signed with the TSC. The issue also became a campaign topic with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance promising to abolish it once they took power.

The transfer of teachers who were considered to have “over-stayed” at the same work station started in 2018 and saw thousands of teachers transferred, drawing condemnation by teachers unions, who claimed the policy had disrupted teachers’ lives.

Kajiado County also emerged as one of the most preferred counties after receiving 237 transfer requests for teachers in secondary schools against 94 who requested to be transfer out of the county. For primary school teachers, 486 applied to work in the county against 434 who asked to be taken elsewhere.

“The transfer of teachers from one institution to another is based on the need for equitable distribution and optimal utilisation of teachers, availability of vacancies in the station, the need for replacement, existing staffing norms and medical grounds certified by a registered medical practitioner,” reads the document signed by Mr Cavin Anyuor, the director for legal, labour and industrial relations, on behalf of CEO Nancy Macharia.

The document was in response to questions on delocalisation by Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi who demanded to know the breakdown of the teachers transferred in and out of Embu County. TSC data showed1,157 teachers applied to be deployed in the county while 357 others wanted to work elsewhere. Of these, 229 have already left the county and 244 others brought in. Other requests are pending approval. Ms Macharia further explained that, before approving a transfer, the commission ensures that the station a teacher is leaving has a suitable replacement and that there is a vacancy in the preferred station.

The highest paid KCSE 2023 examiner will pocket Kshs 77 per script. The lowest paid KCSE 2023 examiner will earn Kshs 52 per script.

Knec will also reimburse all the examiners travel expenses. KCSE 2023 chief examiners and assistant chief examiners who reported to the respective KCSE 2023 marking centers last week in preparation for the nationwide marking exercise will receive higher perks.

KCSE 2021 Results Release now Live! Tune in to Follow the official release of the 2021 KCSE Results

KCSE 2021 Results Release now Live! Tune in to Follow the official release of the 2021 KCSE Results

The 2021 KCSE results release ceremony is now live in all media stations in Kenya.

The CS Education Professor George Magoha is currently held up in a meeting to discuss critical issues such as the early exposure of examination papers this year that may lead to the cancellation of some examination results.

The release of the 2021 KCSE results will mark the end of an era for CS Magoha who is set to leave office in August 2022.

The incoming administration should know that no condition is permanent, but our children being in school is and therefore should not change the existing plans because they don’t like the person who initiated it.” saiD Magoha.

As he leaves, his tenure will be scrutinized, for he was in charge during a significant period in the history of education in Kenya. A lot has been happening in both basic and higher education and his tentacles have been all over, from launching ECDE classrooms to dissolving university councils he deemed errant.

Prof Magoha has extolled his efforts (while chair of Knec) to curb runaway cheating in national exams.

This was done in conjunction with his equally bullish Cabinet colleague, Dr Fred Matiang’i, who was then heading the Education docket. They roped in the ICT ministry and, once more, our examinations have regained respectability. The new administration must not drop the ball.

Prof Magoha has been a strong defender of the competency-based curriculum (CBC), whose implementation has drawn mixed reactions from stakeholders. Its opponents have trashed it but the professor, whose specialisation is in the medical field, never fails to state that “CBC is here to stay!”

He has been defensive of the outcome of the policy, saying he would rather have learners in congested classrooms than out of school. It is unlikely that the 10,000 classrooms that the CS aims to have added to secondary schools by the time he leaves will have much effect in resolving the problem.

There have been loud complaints from principals and MPs over how the classrooms were allocated, with a feeling that already established schools have been greater beneficiaries.

Prof Magoha has probably traversed the country more than all his Cabinet colleagues as he seems to believe in the dictum of ‘management by walking around. However, his travels have also generated some negative news, as when last year he publicly berated a senior education official in Uasin Gishu County and called him “mjinga”.

As he leaves, education journalists will have different opinions of the man. There are days he will be friendly with them and on others, he will state from the beginning that he will not field any questions “even the one you are thinking about”.

Unlike his colleagues in the Cabinet who, at times, communicate through their verified social media accounts, Prof Magoha is not known to have one and only parody accounts in his name are active.

His Lands colleague Farida Karoney (a former journo) once organized, on his behalf, a media breakfast with him to help ease interactions. But when Prof Magoha rose to speak last, he reminded us that he always speaks his mind, like him or hate him.

It is unlikely he will join politics because voters need to be seduced, cajoled, and at times politicians do absurd things to please them, antics that are out of Prof Magoha’s depth.

Whatever he chooses to do after August, he will have left his mark, depending on who you ask and where they stand. There are those who cannot wait to see the last of him and others who will miss him when he leaves Jogoo House.

Education and TSC News Today: Major Curriculum  Shift as Ministry Seeks to Make Physical Education, PE one of the compulsory subjects examinable during KCPE and KCSE National Exams

Key curriculum changes in basic learning institutions are in the offing as Education Ministry primes itself for the reincorporation of Physical Education, PE into the curriculum but as a mandatory subject this time round.

The most recent details now indicate that all primary and secondary schools will have to  constitute sports clubs and committees charged with the responsibility of management of the teaching of physical education.

This information is based on a new government policy aimed at entrenching games as a crucial component of the curriculum.

Besides this, schools will are required to have teachers well trained and regularly refreshed with new skills on how to teach physical education under the new guidelines.

Taken for Granted

Although physical education is currently taught in schools, it is taken casually by learners and teachers because it is elective, non-examinable and rarely enforced.

But a new physical education and sports policy for basic education to be launched today by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha seeks to make the subject compulsory and taught like other regular disciplines.

According to the document seen by The Standard, the emphasis on physical education is meant to align schools with the new Competency-Based Curriculum, which has entrenched sports as a learning area and career pathway, as well as prepare learners for “a lifelong active lifestyle.”

“Quality physical education is a platform for inclusion in the wider society particularly in terms of challenging stigma and overcoming stereotypes. This is especially so for learners with special needs and those living with disabilities,” says the policy document.

The government’s effort to push physical education to be a top priority subject is likely to be frustrated by the fact that many schools do not have the infrastructure for sports, including playgrounds, equipment, and qualified trainers.

Though the subject is timetabled, its slot is usually taken up by teachers eager to complete their syllabi for the examinable subjects and this is engendered by the fact that quality assurance officers rarely show any interest in it.

Still, PE teachers are often overlooked during promotions since it’s hard to demonstrate their efficacy in a subject that is not examinable.

Many institutions take sports seriously only during inter-school competitions and even then, only those well-endowed with facilities attach a premium to it.

According to the document, a recent survey of post-primary school teachers shows that 69 per cent of a sampled group said they did not have the skills and technical knowledge to teach PE, 62 per cent said they have not been given professional training on the subject while 60 per cent said they do not involve the learners in any physical activity during the PE lessons.

Unlike primary school teachers who are all trained to teach PE, secondary school ones are not required to specialise in PE as a teaching subject.

But according to the Kenya Institute of Special Education, teachers graduating with certificates and diplomas in special education must have PE as a compulsory component in the training.

The policy says the Education ministry will promote accessible infrastructure, facilities, and equipment for PE.
