The 30-year-old Russian woman who sought anonymity is a mother of two.
According to the doctors who were operating her, they found dermatoid cysts in her ovaries. Inside the cyst was the upper layer of a human’s skin, fats, hair, bones and teeth said Dr Tatiana Shavrak, the Chief Doctor of Kolomna Perinatal Centre.
Each cyst weighed 113 grams and it had been growing into tails of hair inside the patient’s ovaries.
WHAT ARE DERMATOID CYSTS
Dermatoid cysts are a non-cancerous tumour of the ovary.
They consist of capsules with thick walls which consist of mucus mixed with a variety of human tissues.
They can be successfully removed by laparoscopy without affecting the patient’s reproductive system.
Dermatoid cysts are genetic. They thus begin growing since birth. The unfortunate part is that no one can predict when these cysts suddenly begin growing.
Dermatoid cysts can start growing at the age of 15, 30 or even 70.
