HOW TO JOIN GRADE 10 AT MALINDI NATIONAL SENIOR SCHOOL

Joining Grade 10 at the school is straight forward. Placement at the school is done by the Ministry of Education. Simply apply for consideration for placement by using this link: Grade 10 Selection System.

Grade 10 Selection: Step by step guide for Senior schools.

i. The Principal Logs in with the senior school UIC credentials.

ii. Declare Grade 10 capacity.

iii. Select and submit subject combinations for at least two pathways, where STEM is compulsory (the minimum number of learners per subject combination is 15).

iv. The Sub county Director of Education approves the subject combinations of the schools in his/her area of jurisdiction.

v. If a combination is not approved the senior school can delete the record and select another subject combination.

Grade 10 Selection: Step by step guide for junior schools.

i. Head of the institution logs in with junior school UIC credentials and finds a list of Grade 9 learners.

ii. Update each learner’s profile.

iii. For every learner, select a pathway and proceed to select 3 subject combinations.

iv. For every subject combination sèlected, choose 4 schools (One school per the 4 clusters provided).

v. Submit the choices

Regular learners must select 12 schools.
Learners with special needs to select SINE/INTEGRATED schools that are in line with their disability.
Learners with disabilities can select less than 12 schools.

FORM ONE SELECTION JANUARY 2023

Meanwhile, parents and teachers of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are waiting with bated breath for the computeri2ed form one selection before schools reopen for the 2023 academic year.

A total of 1,233,852 candidates sat for the national tests. Based on the government’s 100% transition policy, they all qualify for admission to form one in January 2023.

Cheating

Even the few candidates who were caught cheating and were consequently awarded 0% in the subjects affected will still transition to form one this year.

Of the total candidates, some 620,965 (50.32 per cent) were boys while 612,887 were female.

FORM ONE SELECTION 2023

The top 10 candidates (five boys and five girls) from every sub-county will be placed in the national schools of their choice.

The country has 290 sub-counties, meaning 2,900 learners will get their preferred schools.

The government has not changed Form One placement criteria, which lay emphasis on merit, equity and choice.

“Form One selection is computerised. That is what we used,” said CS Machogu.

SCRAMBLE FOR NATIONAL SCHOOLS

This means that the scramble for national schools still remains now that the government is taking into account geographical representation/ balance.

A section of parents and the Kenya Private Schools Association has raised concern that the selection may favor public schools.

National Parents Association Chairman, Silas Obuhatsa, called for transparency and accountability in the selection.

He said past Form One selections disadvantaged children from private schools.

“We call for fairness in the selection that is solely conducted by the Ministry of Education. Children should be given a chance to join schools of their choice. Parents need to be involved in the exercise in future,” Mr Obuhatsa said.

He urged the government to ensure children from private schools are placed in “giant” national schools.

“Children are equal. Any child who scored marks to join such a school should not be denied the opportunity. Parents are also equal. There are no private or public parents,” he added.

Mr Obuhatsa urged the Ministry of Education to ensure students are not placed in schools they never selected.

Sending children to far-flung schools they never chose also needs to end,” he said.

He gave the example of a student in Kilifi getting an admission letter from a school in Meru County, saying that would inconvenience the child and the parent.

Mr Obuhatsa added that travelling and locating the school may be a challenge.

The Form One selection, which is being conducted by the Ministry of Education, the Kenya National Examinations Council and the ICT Authority is to be concluded this weekend and results released on Monday or Tuesday.

Selection process

A KCPE candidate selects 11 secondary schools before sitting the examination. One picks four national schools – one from each of the four clusters.

For extra-county schools, the ministry uses a 15:35:50 ratio, with the host sub-county getting 15 per cent of the places, the county getting 35 per cent while candidates from other regions get 50 per cent.

Special needs institutions are categorized as national, meaning they admit students from all over the country.

There are 112 national schools, 776 extra-county, 1,301 county, 6,297 sub-county and 1,301 private secondary schools in Kenya.

The country has 1,803 public boarding secondary schools and 479 private ones while there are 5,029 public and 432 private day schools.

The top candidate in KCPE 2023 results scored a whopping 428 marks out of the possible 500.

The 2023 KCPE examinations were administered in 28, 533 centers which were strictly manned to ensure integrity.

More than 10 out of 47 counties recorded more female candidates. These encompass:

KCPE 2023 Performance per Subject

English and Kenya Sign Language registered a marked improvement in 2023 KCPE results compared to the 2022 KCPE examinations.

On the contrary, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies recorded a drop in the 2023 KCPE results.

KCPE 2023 Results Performance Per Gender

There was no major disparity in the performance both male and female KCPE 2023 candidates in Social Studies and CRE. The scores were equivalent.

Females, however, excelled in English, Kiswahili and Kenya Sign Language compared to their male counterparts.

Maleson the other hand performed better in Mathematics and Science.

A total of 8, 525 KCPE 2023 candidates scored 400 and above, a slight drop of 0.60% compared to 9, 443 pupils in KCPE 2022. These candidates will automatically transition to the highly coveted traditional and newly elevated national schools in Kenya.

352, 782 candidates scored 300-399 marks. They will join top performing county and extra county secondary schools in January 2024.

2024 Form One Joining Instructions for 2023 KCPE Candidates

All the 2023 KCPE candidates will join secondary schools in the third week of January. Candidates who did not have the golden opportunity of sitting for the 2023 KCPE national tests have been advised to register their details at the nearest education offices so that they can be factored in the upcoming special examination which will be conducted in January 2024 to ensure they continue their studies.
