SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS
• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway
The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation
Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;
9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.
How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done
It will be based on:
Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice
Admission and replacement process
Placement results will show where learners have been placed
Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS
Replacements
Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has taken disciplinary action against more than 100 teachers accused of abusing learners, as the agency intensifies efforts to root out sexual misconduct and immoral behavior in schools.
Appearing before the Senate Education Committee in Mombasa, TSC Director of Legal, Labour and Industrial Relations Cavin Anyuor, revealed that the commission has received 111 cases since January 2024, involving allegations such as sexual intercourse with learners, flirtation, molestation, lesbianism and pornography.
“Out of the 111 cases, 69 teachers were dismissed and deregistered, meaning they can no longer teach anywhere in the world. Their teaching licenses have been permanently revoked,” Mr Anyuor said.
Another nine teachers were dismissed, meaning they cannot work under TSC, although their licenses were not revoked. Twenty-five others were suspended, with the possibility of returning to service after the suspension period.
The official noted that the 25 suspended teachers may return to TSC depending on the length and outcome of their suspension.
The commission also dealt with one intern found guilty of misconduct and removed from the register.
“There is one intern teacher… even interns are not exempt. One went overboard and was also removed from the register,” Mr Anyuor added.
He further noted that four teachers were acquitted, having their interdictions revoked, while three cases were dropped after the implicated teachers died before facing disciplinary hearings.
“In four cases, the teachers were found to be innocent and their interdictions revoked. Three cases were cancelled because, by the time we called the teachers for disciplinary proceedings, they had passed away. That is how the 111 cases have been handled,” he said.
TSC has implemented a strict code of regulations outlining severe disciplinary consequences for offences involving learner abuse.
“Such cases attract the most severe punishment under the teacher discipline framework,” said Mr Anyuor.
He said that the TSC remains committed to protecting learners and upholding professional standards in the teaching service, assuring the public of a fair but firm disciplinary process in handling cases, particularly those involving abuse of learners.
Sexual abuse cases
Mr Anyuor added that all 111 cases received since January 2024 were handled through a “fair legal process backed by evidence.”
“Where evidence shows a teacher has no case to answer, we let them go. Not all are guilty — at least four were cleared and walked scot-free. We attempt to be fair but remain very firm on learner abuse,” he said.
He reiterated that learners are strictly prohibited from visiting teachers’ houses and urged immediate reporting of any violations or suspicions of misconduct.
To strengthen accountability, the official noted that TSC has enacted strict regulations and administrative circulars, including Circular No. 3 of 2010, which requires incidents of learner abuse to be reported within 24 hours. The circular also criminalises the suppression or concealment of such information by teachers.
The commission has enhanced reporting channels, establishing a free hotline and a public email address that enable anonymous reporting of sexual abuse cases.
“These platforms allow swift action, and one no longer needs to physically visit a school or TSC office to lodge a complaint,” he added.
Mr Anyuor said both state and non-state actors, along with members of the public, have embraced these digital platforms, significantly improving the commission’s response time and accountability.
To further protect whistleblowers, TSC has implemented an Integrity Policy that shields individuals reporting abuse or misconduct from retaliation or other negative consequences.
“There has been an increase in the number of cases reported by members of the public and stakeholders beyond the traditional communication channels,” he said
He noted that while some reports turn out to be fabricated or driven by internal school conflicts, many others raise genuine concerns that require urgent intervention.
He also revealed that the commission receives numerous anonymous reports of child abuse in schools, with some teachers accused of sexual exploitation attempting to interfere with investigations.
He reiterated that the TSC is committed to protecting learners and will continue to refine its legal and administrative frameworks to ensure all cases are thoroughly investigated and appropriate action is taken against offenders.

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation
Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;
9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.

Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.
How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done
It will be based on:
Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice
Admission and replacement process
Placement results will show where learners have been placed
Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS
Replacements
Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases

Release Of Examinations Results
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes to bring the following information to the attention of all institutions presenting candidates for the KNEC examinations:
Examination Results Slips and Printouts
Each of the institutions that enter candidates for the KNEC examinations shall receive a hard copy of the institution’s examination results printout and result slips which captures the following information:
1. Institution’s Code and Name
This appears on the top left side of the printout. The institution’s code is a unique number by which an examination centre is identified by the Council.
This is the number that an institution should always quote whenever communicating with KNEC.
2. Candidates Details
Below the institution’s name and code are details of the candidates. These details include the index number of the candidate, year of examination, gender, individual subject grades and the mean grade.
The important features of the examination results are as indicated below:-
X – denotes an absent candidate. A candidate is declared absent if he/she did not sit for one or all papers in the examination. However, for the KCPE examination results, the symbol AB indicates an absence;
Y- denotes that the candidate was involved in an examination irregularity. For the KCPE examination results, the symbol 00 indicates an irregularity;
P- denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been pended due to infringement on the entry requirements for the examination e.g. incorrect KCPE details for entry in KCSE examination;
W- denotes that the candidate’s examination results have been withheld on suspicion that the candidate has been involved in an examination malpractice and investigations are ongoing;
U- denotes ungraded examination results due to infringement of the awards criteria.
Mean Grade Award Descriptions
Mean grade will be X, if a candidate is absent in all subjects
Mean grade will be Y , if one or more subjects are cancelled.
Mean grade will be U, if the entry requirements for the KCSE examination are not met
Mean grade will be CRNM, if the course requirements for the Teacher education, Business and Technical examinations are not met
Mean grade will be P, if results are pended
Mean grade will be W, if the examination results are withheld;
The details of pended, withheld and irregularities are communicated to the institution through the Sub County Director of Education at the time of release of the examination results and are received by the institutions at the same time with the examination results.
Release Of Certificates
Once certificates for a specific examination are ready for collection/dispatch from KNEC, the institutions shall be informed through the mass and print media, Sub County Directors of Education and/or the heads of institutions.

Form One Placement /Selection Results 2022; How to Change 2022 Form One Placement or Selection and Download Form One Admission Letters in 2022
The 2022 form One Selection and Placement exercise will start next week, two weeks following the release of the 2021-2022 KCPE Results.
Consequently, all KCPE 2021 candidates are waiting anxiously to see which secondary schools they have been selected to join for 2022 form One Admission come May.
I’m this write-up, we take you through a step by step simplified guide on how all 2021 KCPE candidates can check their 2022 form One Placement Results once they are released.
2022 form One Placement System Changes
The 2021 KCPE candidates are however worried over slight changes to the selection criteria for national schools following CS Magoha’s remarks discrediting the value of KCPE merit in the selection of form ones to national schools this year.
According to CS Magoha, not all KCPE candidates who attained the 400 pass mark will get direct placement/selection to the highly adored national schools.
According to Magoha, KCPE mark is no guarantee for securing the limited slots in national schools this year.
The selection criteria for national schools is rather diverse, taking into account Candidates’ KCPE merit/marks, list of preferred schools-selection, affirmative action and regional.balance.
This simply means that candidates with special needs and those from disadvantaged regions can still secure a vacancy in KCSE top Ranking national schools in spite of not attaining the 400 pass mark.
Following reports from the ministry of education, each candidate who did the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination, received their results.
The ministry of education is still working on the placement activity. Once the selection is over, candidates will be required to know the secondary schools they have been placed by sending their index numbers to 22263. The Ministry of Education will inform Candidates once it is through with the placement activity. Meanwhile, both candidates and their parents or guardians have been urged to remain calm as they await the release of the 2022 placement.

HOW TO CHANGE FORM ONE PLACEMENT IN 2022
In order to apply for change of form one placement, follow the easy steps below;
The parent or guardian should place a request at the school of interest; where he/ she wants the kid to be transferred to. The school will then shortlist and merit all students in the waiting (request) list and make a decision on those they will like to absorb; depending on the available (unfilled) vacancies.
The school through the National Education Management System, NEMIS –https://nemis.education.go.ke/, shall enter the details of the selected candidates from their waiting list and request the Ministry to capture them in the new school.
Approval to the schools’ requests shall be granted at different levels depending on the Category of the school. Approval for National, Extra County and County schools will be granted by the Ministry’s Head Office, Regional Coordinators and County Directors of Education, respectively.
Once the approval has been granted, the learner will then be moved from the selection list of the first school to the latest (new) school.
The parent/ guardian will then go online and print the admission letter for the new school.

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation
Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;
9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.
How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done
It will be based on:
Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice
Admission and replacement process
Placement results will show where learners have been placed
Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS
Replacements
Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

Applicants seeking a chance in the primary TTCs must have at least a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE or equivalent, while those seeking enrolment into Diploma in Secondary Education are required to have a minimum of C+ in KCSE or equivalent. Diploma in Primary Education (DPTE)

Designed for aspiring primary school teachers, this course focuses on child-centered learning, curriculum implementation, and inclusive education.
The entry requirements for Diploma in Primary Teacher Education are C (Plain) Mean Grade in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) or its equivalent as equated by KNEC. The candidate will also be required to have scored at least C (plain) in English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, one humanity subject and at least in one science subject.
For applicants with special needs, the entry requirement is Mean Grade C- (Minus) and also a C- (Minus) in the cluster of subjects shown above.
Duration of the Training
The duration of Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) is three years. The trainee is expected to cover course material for 3,000 hours.
Subjects Offered
The trainee undertaking DPTE shall take all courses specified in the DPTE curriculum which includes professional courses and subject learning areas in the Primary School Curriculum.
Award of Diploma
To be awarded the diploma, the trainee must complete the required hours for coursework and pass stipulated assessment by the college and KNEC. The trainee will be expected to also cover the stipulated hours of practicum. The diploma will be awarded by KNEC upon passing all the stipulated assessments and practicums.
The entry requirements for the Upgrade Programme to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) is a Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) and TSC Registration Certificate.
Duration and Structure of the UDPTE Programme
The duration for Upgrade to DPTE shall be four (4) school terms, three (3) terms will be used for coursework and one (1) term for practicum. The coursework may be offered either in a full time mode or blended mode of study. In a full time study mode, all learning sessions will take place in the institution during school days. In the blended mode, students shall take some learning sessions in the college during school holidays and engage in self-study through projects and assignments during the school term in a distance under the supervision of college tutors.
Subjects Offered
The teachers pursuing the Upgrade Programme to DPTE shall take all professional courses specified in the DPTE Curriculum as well as Subject areas they did not specialize in during the PTE Programme. The trainnes must cover 1,200 hours for coursework and 300 hours for practicum sessions. The total numbers of hours UDPTE candidate is required to cover is 1,500 hours.
Award of Diploma
To be awarded the diploma, the trainee must complete the required hours for coursework and pass stipulated assessment by the college and KNEC. The trainee will be expected to also cover the stipulated hours of practicum. The diploma will be awarded by KNEC upon passing all the stipulated assessments and practicums.
DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY TEACHER EDUCATION (DPTE)
A DPTE Teacher Qualifies to teach in grade 1-6 (or 9 if one meets TSC employment terms for secondary school teachers) of the Kenyan Education .
This programme is now being replaced from 2024 with Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE) which is a combination of DECTE and DPTE. The graduates will teach from PP1 to Grade 6.

b) For candidates with disabilities the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) and a C- (Minus) in the cluster of subjects stated above.
c) The duration of the course shall be three (3) years in accordance with the approved Curriculum designs.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION (DECTE)
a. The academic entry requirements for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be C (Plain) Mean Grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) or its equivalent (as equated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
b. Candidates with disabilities shall be admitted with C- (Minus) grade in KCSE or equivalent.
c. The duration for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be three (3) years.
d. The trainees undertaking the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall take ALL courses specified in the DECTE Curriculum.
e. The trainees shall undertake a Micro Teaching course of three (3) months which shall be a pre-requisite for the Teaching Practicum of two school terms.
f. To be awarded the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), the candidate must complete the required hours for coursework and pass the stipulated assessment as directed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

THE TTC MINIMUM DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION COURSE QUALIFICATIONS:
The TTC, just like other TTCs, offers training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. I. Attendance to College activities
a) Attendance to scheduled activities is COMPULSORY. These include lectures, assemblies, sports and games etc

II. Progress in Training.
Performance while in training is continuously assessed and monitored. There will be internal (College) and external (KNEC) assessments. For the internal assessments progress report will be issued every term.

The College is multi-denominational. Each one is free to practice one’s faith provided that by doing so, the rights of other students and residents are not prejudiced or compromised in any way.

1.0 The Competency Based Assessment Framework (CBAF) provides for two pathways:
1.1 Age Based for regular learners including those with mild disabilities; and
1.2 Stage Based for learners with severe conditions in the categories of deafblind, severe cerebral palsy, severe autism, intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities.
2.0 The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) plans to administer a summative assessment, Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) to the first cohort of learners at Intermediate Level between November and December 2022.
3.0 KILEA will be offered in four (4) papers as follows:
3.1 Communication, Social and Literacy Skills;
3.2 Daily Living Skills and Religious Education;
3.3 Numeracy, Environmental and Psychomotor Activities;
3.4 Sensory Motor Integration and Creative Activities.
4.0 Learners to be presented for this assessment should:
4.1 be registered and assigned an Assessment Number by KNEC.
4.2 have undertaken SBA for the intermediate level and outcomes of at least one (01) SBA be uploaded on to the KNEC portal.
5.0 Registration of learners and details of SBA could be accessed through the portal https://cba.knec.ac.ke.
6.0 Teachers will be expected to administer the assessment within the specified period in the KILEA Timetable provided by KNEC, score the learner’s work and upload the learner’s outcomes onto the same portal.
7.0 Materials required for the performance of the tasks should be obtained from the immediate school environment or improvised as much as possible.
8.0 KNEC will upload sample KILEA papers by 15th July 2022 for schools to access through their respective portals.

2,300 Public Primary Schools Selected to Host Junior Secondary Schools.
In January of next year, 2,300 public primary schools will host Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
This comes as the government continues to scramble at the last minute to ensure that there are enough classrooms for Grade Seven students.
Prof George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, stated on Wednesday that the chosen primary schools are those that share a compound with secondary schools.
“We have said as a government, when a high school and a primary school are within the same compound, we shall also use the physical resources that are there,” he said.
According to the CS, the country’s 2,300 primary schools provide a total of 5,000 classrooms that will be used to host the JSS.
The CS was speaking at Pumwani Boys High School in Nairobi, where he oversaw the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms.
Prof Magoha has been traveling from county to county, commissioning classroom construction in various schools.
He also went to Pumwani Girls Secondary School in Nairobi to look at classrooms.
So far, the best performing counties include Nandi, Nyandarua, Kisii, and Nyamira, all of which have completed some classrooms.
Last month, the government completed over 10,000 classrooms for junior secondary phase one.
This month, he began the construction of over 3,500 classrooms for phase two.
According to the CS, the government is also working closely with private schools to ensure that some junior secondary school students will be accommodated.
The government anticipates that private schools will build over 5,000 classrooms for JSS.
Prof Magoha stated that the guidelines for student placement from primary to junior secondary schools will be released in two weeks.
The CS stated that the classrooms must be built and completed no later than one week after the elections.
Prof Magoha of the University of Nairobi said that so far, 20 private primary schools have been cleared for registration, and another 70 will be cleared by Saturday to host the Junior Secondary School.
Magoha also tells the private sector to build new junior high schools.
Prof Magoha, on the other hand, dismissed the idea of the government funding students in private schools, claiming that capitation would only be available to students in public secondary schools.
He also stated that where the government is required to facilitate, the government will work with private schools to ensure that they are encouraged to register.
