THE CANDIDATES TO UNDERGO INTERVIEWS

In a bid to replace the three commissioners who had exited service at the teachers’ employer(TSC), a whopping 24 applicants have been shortlisted. Among the shortlisted candidates, there are retired ministry officials, a sitting vice-chancellor of private university teacher service commission officers and a regional director at the ministry of education. The following list incorporates some of the interviewees who have been invited: Cleopas Ondieki, Florence Wanjiku, Professor Maurice Amutabi, Leila Abdi,flora Maghanga, mary Rotich,Dorothy Kimeu, Gituro Wainaina, Lilian Wachira, Mohamud Kasai , Margret Lesuuda, Stephen Nthiga, Mukulu Kariuki,Isaac Gathirwa, William Kibowen,Pius Nduati, Selesa Abudo, Amina Hassan, Mbage ng’ang’a among others.

Tsc Interview dates

The tsc selection panel has communicated that interviews will start next week from Monday to Wednesday.

Factors that that shall come to play during the selection include:

-Regional balance
-Categories of minorities
-The marginalized

It is important for the shortlisted candidates and the public, in general, to note that the commissioners who exited their six-year term having elapsed hailed from the following regions. Dr. Saadia( North –Eastern) Dr G(central) and Tirop( the Rift valley)
It is also of interest to note that five of the shortlisted candidates come from the Rift-valley region. Central and the North Eastern boast of four applicants each while three are from Eastern. Nyanza, Western and the Coast have been represented by two candidates each.

-Tache Gollo( Eastern)
-Beatrice Adu(Nyanza)
-Albert Ekirapa( western)
-Kinoti Imanyara(eastern)
-Mbarak Twahir( coast)
Sources from the TSC indicate that those regions already represented by the sitting commissioners will score lowly.

Mandatory requirements

-Academic qualification papers
-KRA clearance certificates
-HELB clearance certificate
-Ethics and anti-corruption commission clearance certificate
-Credit reference bureau (CRB) clearance certificate
-Certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations

Furthermore, the interviewing panel is fishing for Kenyans who possess a degree from ar recognised university. They must demonstrate knowledge and experience on matters education, management and governance.
The names of Successful candidates after the interviews are forwarded to the president who has to submit the names again to the national assembly within seven days for vetting. The candidates are either approved or rejected.
The tsc selection committee will incorporate Dr. mary Gaturu to represent the education cabinet secretary- Prof Magoha. Dr Gaturu is the current director of quality assurance and standards at the ministry of education.
