Critical Changes in School Term Dates 2022/2023; Learners to Reopen on Monday, August

Latest Education News Today: The 2022/2023 academic year has been a shaky one, especially for the three categories of candidates expected to sit for KPSEA, KCSE and KCPE national examinations in November 2022.

The latest education news hitting our news desk indicates that Kenyan learners in basic learning institutions, Primary and Secondary schools will have to elongate their mid-term break for four days and resume studies for term 2 on Monday as opposed to an earlier circular which had directed them to reopen schools and continue studies on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

This, therefore, means that the 2022/2023 term dates and school calendar will have to undergo significant changes following the disruptions caused by the 2022 polls.

The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC will for the first time in history roll out a novel/ new examination at the end of primary school education in Kenya now dubbed KPSEA that will replace the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE in November 2022.

The pioneers of KPSEA are currently partaking in their grade six-course in both public and private schools in Kenya.

KPSEA 2022 Assessment Dates

In the pioneer Competency-Based Curriculum, CBC, learners will therefore sit for their summative examination between November 28, 2022, and November 30, 2022.

According to KNEC, KPSEA will carry up to a maximum of 40 marks. It is aimed at ensuring that all learners currently in grade six transit to grade 7, in junior secondary schools in January 2023.

REHEARSAL DATE FOR KPSEA 2022 EXAMS

Just like its predecessor, KPSEA candidates will also have one day for rehearsal. The official date for the 2022 KPSEA rehearsal has been set for November 25, 2022.

KPSEA 2022/2023; Number of subjects

Coincidentally, the 2022 KPSEA candidates will still sit for five subjects that encompass Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, and creative art and social studies.

KPSEA 2022 pilot examinations Dates and Timetable

Kindly note that KNEC will conduct a pilot test for KPSEA national examinations in September 2022.

The official dates for KPSEA 2022 pilot tests have been set between September 28 and September 30, 2022.

KPSEA Multiple Choices

Like the nearly-phased out KCPE examination, KPSEA will also be a multiple-choice test covering five papers.

” The exam will be a multiple-choice test that will cover five papers. IS will combine Science and Technology and will cover Home Science, Agriculture, and Physical Health while CASS will combine Art and Craft, Music, Social Studies, and Religious Education (CRE, IRE, and HRE)” noted KNEC CBA coordinator Ann Ngatia.

According to Ms. Ngatia, Integrated and Creative sciences will bring together various subjects that will form part of the five key subjects tested under KPSEA.

KPSEA 2022/2023 SBA

According to Ms. Ngatia, KPSEA 2022 results will be determined by the ongoing School-Based Assessment, SBA that is done at the end of every year for it will account for 60 percent of every KPSEA candidate’s final score.

“We will have 60 percent of the score emanating from SBA spread over grades 4, 5, and 6. The summative KPSEA test will account for 40 percent so that KNEC does not rely on a one-time assessment to determine the potential of a learner” added Ms. Ngatia.

This is a good move by KNEC since it will cut the rising demand for last-minute leakages that end up giving the examiner a wrong impression about the learner’s academic ability.

The school-based assessment will be done in form of projects, practicals, portfolios, and oral assessments. This assessment will be done by classroom teachers under the guidelines set by the examiner.

Addressing the issue of transition to junior secondary schools, KNEC deputy director for secondary education Lawrence Karundi noted that junior secondary school will be domiciled in secondary schools. All junior secondary school learners will be day scholars.

2022 General Elections; TSC Grants Leave to Teachers Contracted by IEBC to Conduct Polls this August

2022 General Elections; TSC Grants Leave to Teachers Contracted by IEBC to Conduct Polls this August

2022 General Elections; TSC Grants Leave to Teachers Contracted by IEBC to Conduct Polls this August

TSC News Today; Teachers who were recently contracted to oversee the August 9 polls can finally breathe a sigh of relief after TSC issued this latest directive giving them the green light to continue with their service to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC.

Initially, the Commission’s boss Dr. Nancy Macharia had directed that all teachers shun IEBC jobs such as clerks, Presiding, and Deputy Presiding Officer posts across the 47 counties and instead stick to the tight academic calendar.

Later communication by the TSC indicates that all teachers who the IEBC hired can now proceed on leave in order to aid the Commission in conducting the general polls seamlessly.

In addition, the teachers’ employer has advised administrators of institutions to ensure that all schools designated by the IEBC as polling centers are made available for the exercise.

“Inform Institutional Administrators to ensure that all schools designated by the IEBC as polling stations are made available for the exercise,” said TSC Ceo Dr. Nancy Macharia.

School Reopening Dates August 2022

Furthermore, the commission has urged all teachers to report to schools on Thursday the 11th day of August as directed.

Ensure that all teachers report to schools on 11th August 2022, when schools are reopened, or as would be advised by the Commission.

This comes barely a day after the Ministry of Education directed the immediate closure of schools for the mid-term break.

The general election is slated for next week on the 9th day of August 2022.

Earlier the Teachers Service Commission, TSC, had cautioned teachers who skive classes to attend IEBC training to face disciplinary action.

Some officials said that primary school teachers had a crucial CBC national assessment to complete and that by attending the training, they would endanger the lives of students.

Others, however, have made it plain that teachers must perform their duties during school hours and must be present to help students.

Many instructors participate in IEBC temporary positions during elections as Presiding Officers (POs), Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs), and Clerks.

Prior to the polls on August 9 the electoral authority intends to train the Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, and Clerks.

On this term’s official reopening dates, both teachers and parents are apprehensive with the majority thinking that the mid-term break may be way too short to allow the IEBC to conclude the national exercise.

Some parents and guardians have confided that they will only release their children once the new president has been inaugurated and if they are assured of the stability of the nation.

Today, more police officers have been deployed to volatile areas in the Rift Valley including Molo town to ensure peace and stability.

Now all eyes are trained on the IEBC to keep its promise by delivering a transparent, free and fair election.

CS Magoha has at the same time requested the new government to extend his term to allow him to complete the building of new classrooms for junior secondary school.
