Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge has made history after breaking the two-hour threshold today in Vienna.
He ran the marathon at Prater Park within 1:59:40.
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge was extremely elated after his victory since he is the first human to run a marathon in less than two hours.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined millions of Kenyans and other well-wishers in congratulating Eliud Kipchoge for his smashing victory today.
The president in his message said, “the win will inspire future generations to dream big and aspire for greatness.”
He further added that the marathon runner has made history and made Kenya proud.
ARDENT SUPPORT
Deputy President William Ruto could not hold back his ecstasy. The Deputy President who was in Vienna to witness the win with his wife Rachel Ruto and some Governors tweeted to express their elation.
“your supreme tempo, fatigue-resistance, compulsion, resolve, endurance and tenacity are a manifestation there are no limits when you believe in yourself”
Kenya’s Africa Union envoy Raila Odinga also tweeted in praise of the athlete.
He said that Eliud Kipchoge has captured the imagination of the entire world before the great feat and this will last a lifetime.
He further congratulated Kipchoge for being the first human being to run the marathon. “Kenya is greater thanks to you,” he said.
In the spirit of celebration CS Ambassador Amina Mohammed also sent her congratulatory message.
She described Kipchoge as the greatest athlete in the world who has raised Kenya to the level of the greatest athletic nation on earth.
In her message, she said that the government will consider an appropriate reward for Kipchoge for exceeding the set standards.
CS Amina further added that his win is likely to inspire other athletes to run beyond the set standards.
Kipchoge has made history after breaking the record for he is the first human to run a marathon in less than two hours.
The former world marathon record holder, Paul Tergat said the win has given Kenya an iconic mark and proved that barriers can be broken.
The NOCK President further added that Kenya is a hub of talents. Athletes and the youth just need an avenue and support to showcase their prowess.
