Ruth Matete, the renowned Tusker Project Fame winner (2012) is a success story. However, beyond all the success and fame is a resilient woman who has seen it all in her short life.
At the age of 34 in 2020, life robbed Ruth Matete of the most precious gift that life has ever presented, her husband Pastor John Apewajoye.

Painful death
The tragedy lies in how her husband died, two weeks of probably writhing pain while nursing severe burns emanating from a gas explosion.
Matete’s husband Pastor John Apewajoye, Nigerian was trying to fix a faulty gas cylinder. When he noticed that it was faulty, he decided to take it out into the balcony where he opened the valve to release some of the gas.
Oblivious of the fact that his clothes were full of the gas, Pastor Apewajoye brought the gas into his kitchen and on lighting it, his clothes caught fire.
Born early
That aside, Ruth Matete was born while her parents were still in high school.
Those of you who have been through this understand fully what this means.
It means limited attention and less parental love.
Ruth Matete’s biological parents separated with each marrying a different spouse later.
Living in “exile”
When Ruth Matete’s mother got married to her step-father, life became unbearable.
Her step-father never wanted her to experience happiness or access formal education.
This necessitated her to relocate to Nairobi and live with her biological father actor Abel Amunga.
But as fate had it, her step-mother would too make life even tough for Ruth. Robbed of maternal love, Matete had no option other than to bear it all so long as she could access education.
Half-orphaned
Unfortunately, Ruth Matete’s mother passed a month after she relocated to Nairobi.
So Matete had to discover what it feels like to be a woman on her own since there are some experiences that girls cannot share with fathers.
To crown it all, life unfairly robbed Ruth Matete of the one precious thing left, Pastor John Apewajoye.
What is disheartening most is the way he died and the wild claims being fronted to explain his death…
May his soul rest in peace.
