How to file KRA Tax Returns (individual) online using P9 Form via the official KRA iTax Portal, step-by-step guide

With cyber attendants demanding for up to Kshs 200 service charges upfront in order to file KRA returns using P9 forms for TSC employed teachers, it is important that teachers learn some of these simple procedures and file the returns on their own.

There is no point in paying anyone to do such simple tasks as filing returns or activating your TPAD2 log into the account.

In our previous article, we offered a very reliable link and simplified procedure for activating your TPAD2 log in account. You can click on the link below for more details

 https://newspro.co.ke/new-tsc-tpad-2-log-in-access-link-tsc-unveils-a-new-tpad2-log-in-access-link-here-is-a-simplified-procedure-on-how-to-open-and-log-into-the-new-tsc-tpad-2-log-in-access-link/

In this article, we shall provide all the requirements and a detailed procedure for filing KRA returns for TSC employed teachers in Kenya

Requirements for filing KRA Returns for the employed

There are three basic requirements for filing KRA returns through iTax portal that is KRA PIN number, iTax Password, and KRA P9 Form

KRA PIN Number

This can be obtained from your KRA Certificate.

iTax Password

This shall enable you to log onto the official KRA Portal and file your returns. In case you forget your password, you can reset it, give the answer to the security question and click to submit.

A new password will be sent to the email used to register for your KRA PIN which you will use to access your account.

KRA P9 Form

This refers to a tax deduction form indicating your Employer’s Tax PIN, Gross pay, Taxable pay, PAYE and Personal Relief.

A P9 form usually records tax data for one year that is 12 months however, the number of months on one’s P9 form varies depending on the date of employment and the deductions.

How to file KRA Returns using P9 Form

  1. Log onto the KRA iTax portal by clicking on the link provided below https://itax.kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal/
  2. On the spaces provided, use your KRA PIN and iTax password to log onto the iTax portal.
  3. On the next page that will appear, highlight the tab labeled “Returns” then click on the tab labeled “File Returns” from the drop-down menu that appears.
  4. On the next page, fill all the mandatory fields starting with the “Tax Obligation” –Income Tax-Resident Individual (for Kenyan residents with employment income) then click on Next.
  5. At this stage, download the Income Tax Resident Individual Form in Excel format since the zipped folder will force you to unzip it later.
  6. Enable Macros on the Excel sheet because the default macros on the Excel sheet in Microsoft Excel 2007 cannot work in this case for it is disabled.
  7. Once the form opens in Excel, complete the following four parts using the correct details: Basic info, Employment Income, Details of PAYE Deducted and Tax Computation

TSC: How to Change your TSC Salary Paypoint, for Teachers, TSC Paypoint Particulars Form

TSC: How to change your Salary pay-point, for TSC-employed Teachers, TSC Paypoint Particulars Form

TSC: How to Change your TSC Salary Paypoint, for Teachers, TSC Paypoint Particulars Form

After emerging the best in a TSC Interview, any newly recruited teacher is expected to fill a TSC Paypoint Particulars Form which is sent to the Commission after endorsement by the teachers’ immediate supervisor- school head.

This explains why a potential TSC employee is expected to bring along his or her bank plate- ATM card during Interviews.

The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) later uses the information given to release the teachers’ salary through the preferred/ selected bank or Sacco.

For a TSC-employed teacher to receive their monthly salary he/she must have a bank/ Sacco account. The Commission gets these details once you fill the TSC Bank Form.

TSC Bank Form/ Paypoint Particulars Form

When a teacher is employed by the Teachers Service Commission for the first time, One of the forms he/she must fill is the The TSC Bank Form.

The Form is then sent alongside other documents to the TSC Headquarters for further action.

Due to the various dynamics surrounding the  payment of teachers’ salaries, a teacher may wish to change their pay-point.

These dynamics encompass delayed payment of salaries by some banks, bank charges etc.

HOW TO CHANGE TSC SALARY PAY-POINT FOR TEACHERS

A teacher may change his /her pay-point as often as he/she wants.

For one to do so i.e diverting salaries to new bank / sacco , you must :

1. Download the TSC Bank Form and print.

2. Fill in the pay-point form correctly and have it certified by your Principal/ Head Teacher.

Note: Forms for the principal or head are usually signed by the TSC County or Sub County Director

3. Photocopy your new bank/Sacco account plate (ATM Card) both sides.

This is the new account where you want your salary to be channeled to.

Make sure the copy is clear and must also be certified by your Principal/ Head Teacher.

4. Attach your certified bank plate copy and National ID Copy to the completed TSC Bank Form.

5. Finally, send the documents to TSC Headquarters (enclosed in one envelope and addressed to the Secretary TSC, P.O Private Bag, Nairobi).

Attention:

You should take note; do not close your current account until salary starts to flow in through the new account. This will lead to bouncing back of your pay.

Several teachers who immediately close their old accounts have gone for several months without pay.

What happens if a teacher closes their pay-point, old account, before TSC effects the new Paypoint Particulars?

If the TSC payroll is closed and you have closed your old account and your application for Pay-point change has not been effected, your local bank or Sacco returns the salary back to TSC.

This process is rigorous and iI’nvolves a number of bureaucracies.

First, the floating salaries are reversed back to the Bank/ Sacco head office.

After rigorous scrutiny, the bank/ Sacco then returns the salary to TSC Head Quarters.

This is done via written cheques that take long to be processed.

Its advisable for one to be patient after changing the pay-point in order to avoid the aforementioned heartache.

You should wait for about 3-4 months and if the salary is being sent to your bank account without any hitch, then consider closing the old account.

  • Mark the register online by indicating P (present) and Ab (for absent).
  • At the end of the exam administration period, the centre manager will then download the attendance register, countersign it and submit it to the Sub County Director.

  2. One language (English/ Kiswahili/ Vernacular)

This move was aimed at serving a noble course, increasing the number of university qualifiers from the initial 140,107 (130,485 to public universities and 9,622 private universities).

This move, proposed by the Presidential Working Party for Education Reform, however, hit a snag after receiving a backlash from members of parliament. Following lengthy discussions in parliament, the new KCSE grading system was put off till further notice.

Now all eyes and ears are trained on the release of the KCSE 2023 results to see whether the new KCSE grading system will be implemented this year. Meanwhile, candidates are advised not to relegate the Sciences especially Chemistry since if the ministry reverts back to the former KCSE KNEC grading system, then their weighted cluster points will be determined using the procedure elaborated below:

The Knec Grade system is pegged on certain subjects and education level. Knec utilizes a 12-point grade system with an alphabetical letter ascribed to each value as shown below:

KNEC GRADING SYSTEM ARRANGED IN ASCENDING ORDER

E=1

D-=2

D=3

D+=4

C-=5

C=6

About Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Scholarships 2021-2022

The release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE Knec Results is the ultimate source of joy and pride especially for top performing candidates whose parents or guardians can easily raise secondary school fees.

On the other hand, this big event may usher in an era laden with stress and anxiety catalysed by lack of school fees.

This is where the reputed and renowned Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Scholarship fund comes in.

Since its inception in 1968, the JKF Scholarship Fund has incessantly improved access to education and transition rates via scholarships and mentorship given to academically gifted promising Kenyan orphans and those from vulnerable backgrounds.

Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Scholarship Programme- Scope, Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  2. Pre-primary / ECDE – 2 years

3.      Age group – 5 years old at Pre-primary 1; 6 years old at Pre-primary 2 ii. Primary school –  6 years

2. The Junior Secondary School (JSS) Level of education be domiciled in the existing Primary Schools for the following reasons

    1. The learners transiting to Junior Secondary level are too young to transit to the current context of Secondary Schools in Kenya

2.       The older students currently in secondary schools, being of a wider age gap with the transiting Grade 6 learners may bully the JSS learners in one way or another

3.       Domiciling of JSS in Primary Schools will ensure utilization of the existing structures in primary school

4.       The primary school teachers are more aware of, and competent in handling, the needs of these young learners better than their counterparts in the secondary schools who are conditioned to attend to more self-reliant learners

3. Adequate resources and facilities are paramount for the success of CBC. The Ministry of Education should construct sufficient class rooms and provide the required resources for implementation of CBC in both primary and secondary schools

4. Summative evaluation by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) at the end of the base phase of CBC (Primary school level) be retained to determine placement into the various pathways at the next level

5. That the Ministry of Education to initiate a mechanism for systematic pre-service and in- service training for all teachers handing CBC classes. Therefore, CBC content should be initiated in all teacher training institutions. The in-service training programs should be domiciled in all regions to ensure that all schools have CBC trained teachers

6. More teachers to be trained and employed to achieve the 14 international best practices and the UNESCO recommendation of teacher: student ratio of 1:40 to facilitate learning using CBC

7.  The recruitment, employment, staffing, placement and remuneration of Pre-Primary / ECDE teachers should be done by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), just like other teachers in primary and secondary schools. This will highly motivate the teachers at this level since their remuneration will be the same depending on their qualifications. TSC will also be able to keep watch, assess and evaluate the service delivery of these teachers

The Junior Secondary School (JSS) Level of education be domiciled in the existing Primary Schools for the following reasons:

8. Internet connectivity to be provided to all institutions in Kenya in order to enhance digital learning, downloading and uploading of learning materials and learning process facilitation. This therefore means that fully equipped computer laboratories should be established in all basic learning institutions; including those in Arid & Semi-Arid (ASAL) areas

9. The Ministry of Education to commission qualified personnel to conduct an end-term evaluation of the 8-4-4 system of education; and present their findings before the 8-4-4 system ends and there is full implementation of CBC. This will prevent the CBC going through similar challenges experienced with 8-4-4 system of education

Recommendations on Governance of the Basic Education Subsector

Effective governance is essential to promote a more cohesive and collaborative culture in all institutions of learning; and can greatly enhance the realization of the goals of education.  Given the importance of Education as a tool for socio-economic development, the Education sector requires sound governance at all levels; and all individuals and governing bodies must be aware of, and practice, the principles of good governance.

The following recommendations are hereby made in reference to governance of the Basic Education Subsector

1.  The appointment of the members of Boards of Management (BOM) for Basic Education institutions should be based on relevant qualifications by these members to serve the BOM

2. Members of the BOM should undergo mandatory capacity building / training; especially in leadership and governance

3. Members of the BOM should only serve for 2 terms and give way to the appointment of new members to serve
