The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC recently advertised lucrative contractual job opportunities to teachers fishing to serve as center managers, supervisors, and invigilators in the upcoming KPSEA 2022, KCSE 2022, and KCPE 2022 national examinations.
According to the latest directive by the teachers’ employer the Teachers Service Commission, TSC sub-county directors of Education are expected to nominate one supervisor for every 200 candidates within the designated KNEC examination centers now that the October 18 application deadline has lapsed.
KCPE KNEC Allowances/ Payment Rates for KCPE Center managers, Supervisors, and Invigilators
The good news is that much as the Council has not improved the payment rates for KCPE 2022 contracted professionals in spite of the harsh economic times ushered in by an era laden with high tax rates and fuel prices that are obviously straining the meager earnings of Kenyan teachers; the professionals will be remunerated as follows;
Knec Designation/ posts for KCPE 2022 | KNEC Remuneration rates per day for contracted professionals | |
1 | KCPE 2022 Center managers | Kshs 2,000 |
2 | KCPE 2022 Supervisors | Kshs 2,485 |
3 | KCPE 2022 Invigilators | Kshs 1,615 |
4 | Security Officers | Kshs 1,050 |
The drivers will also get an allowance of Kshs 1,040 for ferrying the KCPE 2022 national examinations for three days.

KNEC Issues Guidelines on Administration of KCSE 2022 Oral and Practical Examination papers
The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Oral and Practical Examination papers are scheduled to start on 21st November and end on 25th November 2022. The papers include French (501), German (502), Arabic orals (503), Kenya sign language (504), Music Practical (511), and home science (441).
During the assessment, the center managers of examination centers offering these examination papers are expected to collect the question papers for the day as indicated on the question paper packet and return duly sealed scores of the candidates to the Sub County containers.
The center managers must be escorted by security officers. The security officers at the examination center during the assessment will provide security and assist in ensuring candidates who are yet to be assessed are confined in a room and do not interact with those who have completed their assessment.
Only one supervisor identified, nominated, and deployed in the examination center offering these papers must be at the examination center when the oral and practical papers will be conducted. The supervisor must liaise with the center manager to be guided on when the oral and practical examination will be taking place in the examination center. The roles of the supervisor during the assessment will be:-
- receiving the examination materials from the center manager in one of the assessment rooms;
- handing over the examination materials to the assessor and signing the accountability documents;
- supervising the conduct of the assessment of the oral and practical papers. The supervisor will not be allowed in the assessment room once the examination starts to avoid distracting the assessor and the candidates;
- confining candidates yet to take the assessment in a room where they cannot hear what is being assessed;
- ensuring candidates who complete the assessment leave the area and do not interact with the candidates who are yet to sit for the assessment. The candidates should leave the examination center once they complete the assessment;
- collect a well-sealed envelope containing scores of the candidate and hand over the envelope to the center manager to be returned to the sub-county container;
- sign all the accountability documents provided.
Invigilators are not allowed at the examination center during the assessment of (KCSE) Oral and Practical Examination Papers.
