TSC T-pay Portal 2021-2022; Relief to teachers as TSC finally hears their cry, acts to save their payslips from unsolicited deductions

 

Just yesterday, there was a public outcry from teachers across the nation because their payslips had deductions made which they had not consented to. From reliable sources, the teachers service commission enabled automatic deductions for the agency fees and burial benevolent funds direct to KUPPET.

Some teachers have been reluctant to join such welfare associations because they are sceptical about it in regards to the little benefits accorded to them in case of bereavement. It was therefore fair when one had the option to decide whether to join or not. The online T-pay system of the payslips allows the individual teacher to approve which transaction should me made by the employer. It was therefore a shock to the teachers when this approval was made on their behalf by their employer.

Just one day after their public outcry, the commission has now enabled a feature on the t-pay system for those who do not wish to continue being part of the welfare to cancel the transaction.

The big question however remains whether refunds will be done for the money that has already been deduct. This is just a replica of what happened with Kewota. The teachers were deducted which was never refunded. One may argue that it is just ksh 200, but there are 300000 teachers and more. This means that in just one month of deduction, somebody collects a whooping 60 million shillings.

Kuppet latest news- The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) held elections for the national officials on Saturday April 3, 2021 via the online platform (zoom). All the 10 elected members of the National Executive Board (NEB) retained their seats, unopposed.

The elected officials will serve for a term of five years (5 years); from 2021 to 2026. The heated 2021 branch officials elections culminated in the national officials’ elections; bringing to a halt of a rigorous and high octane electioneering period for the now powerful teachers’ union.
