TSC Lines up Automatic Promotions of Teachers in 2022

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC has lined up promotions of teachers who have completed the mandatory three years since their first posting.

This is in accordance with the TSC Act which dictates that teachers in their initial grades must be promoted to the next grades after faithfully serving the commission for a Minimum Period of three years.

Unlike in the past where the teachers seeking automatic TSC Promotions were forced to part with huge chunks of cash to hasten the process since they had to lure someone to fish out their files manually, the Teachers Service Commission has now made the process more effective and efficient following the digitization of all TSC services.

Therefore, all teachers looking forward to TSC Promotions in 2022 should shelve their worries since the Commission has promised to hasten the process especially now that all services are being offered online.

New salaries and allowances for teachers promoted by TSC in 2022

Newly Promoted teachers should henceforth anticipate an increment in their basic salary, house and commuter allowances as shown below.

Secondary School TSC Teachers’ Job Grades

SECONDARY TEACHER I AND SENIOR TEACHER I Salaries 2021-2025 CBA Cycle 

Secondary Teacher I are teachers in Secondary schools whose grade is C3 (formerly L); This is a promotional grade for teachers in secondary school. On the other hand, Senior Teacher I are administrators in Primary schools with enrollment of over 1000 learners with Grade C3. These tutors earn monthly salaries of Sh41,343- Sh51,927; they will now earn between Sh43,154 and Sh53,943 effective July, 2020.

SENIOR TEACHER II, SECONDARY TEACHER II & SECONDARY TEACHER II UNTRAINED (UT) AND PRIMARY SNE TEACHERS Salaries 2021-2025 CBA Cycle

Senior Teacher II are administrators in Primary schools with enrollment of below 1000 learners. While, Secondary Teacher III is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who are holders of Diploma in Education. These teachers currently pocket salaries of between KES31,242 and KES 33,971 and  got an increment of between KES 984 to KES 3,717 in 2021.

SECONDARY TEACHER II & SECONDARY TEACHER II UNTRAINED AND PRIMARY SNE TEACHERS Salaries 2021-2025 CBA Cycle

These teachers who fall in Grade C2 (Formerly K) did not receive any salary increment in the fourth phase in 2021. Grade C2 is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who are holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or its equivalent. It is also a promotional grade for holders of Diploma in Education.

PRIMARY TEACHER I AND SECONDARY TEACHER III Salaries 2021-2025 CBA Cycle

These are teachers in grade C1 (Formerly H and J). Grade C1 is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who are holders of Diploma in Education. These tutors did not also get any salary increment in 2021.

PRIMARY TEACHER II Salaries 2021-2025 CBA Cycle

These are teachers at Grade B5 (T- Scale 5) which is the entry grade for primary school teachers. These tutors did not also get any salary increment in 2021.

The good news is all teachers who received their promotion letters have a reason to smile as they will now enjoy increased monthly salaries with effect from March 2021 their latest appointment date.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has already compiled and released the list of promoted teachers with a total of 16,000 teachers.

Getting a promotion from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the big dream for every teacher. This is because such promotions come with a salary increment; however, little it may be.

The Commission has released promotion results for teachers who attended promotion interviews in 2020 and 2021. The promotions are for over 16,000 lucky teachers out of the over 33,000 who attended the interviews.

A total of 2,111 teachers have been promoted to Head Teachers at T-Scale 10 (C5). These teachers have a reason to smile as they will now earn an increased monthly salary with effect from March 2021.

How fast you get your interview results and promotion letter varies from County to County. Whereas most Counties have made the lists of promoted teachers public, in some counties this is a highly guarded secret.

The Commission has also revealed the criteria used in promoting over 16,000 teachers in 2021. According to the Commission’s revelation, several factors were considered in coming up with the final list of promoted teachers.

TSC says factors like regional balance, gender equity, and affirmative action for ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands) counties among others were considered. The Commission further adds that the promotions were equitably distributed across the regions.

TSC reaffirms that the Promotion is guided by career progression guidelines under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA.

The 1,096 Deputy Principals II T-Scale 12 (D2) will also receive increased perks. The teachers will receive a monthly pay of Sh91,041. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh13,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh10,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh50,000).

The promoted 39 Senior Lecturers I T-Scale 12 (D2) will receive a monthly pay of Sh91,041. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh13,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh10,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh50,000)

The promoted 1,590 Deputy Principals III T-Scale 11 (D1) will receive a monthly pay of between Sh77,840 and Sh85,269. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh12,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh10,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh45,000)

The promoted 209 Curriculum Support Officers T-Scale 10 (C5) will receive a monthly pay of between Sh62,272 and Sh64,631. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh8,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh6,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh35,000)

The promoted 2,111 Head Teachers 10 (C5) will receive a monthly pay of between Sh62,272 and Sh64,631. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh8,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh6,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh35,000).

The promoted 7,030 Senior Masters IV T-Scale 9 (C4) will receive a monthly pay of Sh52,308. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh8,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh6,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh28,000).

The promoted 1,765 Deputy Head Teachers II T-Scale 9 (C4) will equally receive a monthly pay of Sh52,308. This will come with an increase in monthly Commuter allowance (to Sh8,000), Annual Leave Allowance (to Sh6,000), and monthly House Allowance (to Sh28,000).
