This is good news to Kenyan teachers, especially classroom teachers who were unfairly exempted from administrative roles in the former Collective bargaining agreement, CBA whose cycle came to an end in the year 2021 despite playing an indispensable role in school management.
In the previous CBA, there arose huge disparities between what and How TSC remunerated classroom teachers and school administrators- senior teachers, masters, deputies and heads in various schools.
After teachers and civil servants lamented the move by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to freeze all salary increments for several years untill the economy recovers, things have changed after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) received Kshs 15 Billion aimed at increasing the salaries of teachers as well as recruiting additional teachers.
As per the report published by the Daily Nation, the increment will be factored into the 2022/2023 year budget. In the same government year, teachers salaries will be expected increase as from June 2022.
This comes as good news to teachers as well as other civil servants after the teachers Service Commission had signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with teachers that did not have any monetary gains to teachers. The CBA was highly opposed by teachers unions which advocate for teachers welfare.
