Two suspects were arrested on Sunday after it was discovered that they had bhang wrapped on their body.
Silas Okonji, one of the suspects, was transporting the illicit drug on a motorbike when he was arrested at Ekama area along Bungoma-Kakamega Road.
Together, they had 48 brooms of bhang.
According to Mumia West sub-county Police Commander Peter Kattam, the police smelt a rat after the two were signalled to stop but they defied the order.
What followed was dramatic since the motorcycle sped off prompting the police to chase for about 200 metres before they fell in step with the suspects.
After thoroughly frisking the passenger, the police unravelled the mystery- 48 brooms of bhang were tied around his chest and on his back.
The street value of the drug is yet to be established.
The two suspects will be arraigned in court.
Following increased drug trafficking along the Busia-Kakamega road over the past few weeks, police patrols have been intensified to curb this unbecoming behaviour.
Last week, police in Mumias also arrested two men who had 680 litres of illegal liquor. The liquor is suspected to have been smuggled from Uganda.
