The top student in the 2020 KCSE exams Simiyu Robinson Wanjala came from Murang’a High School, which was elevated to national school status in 2014.

While releasing the exams, Magoha noted that the overall performance in 2020 improved compared to that of 2019.

He added that all the 1,179,182 million candidates would transition to secondary school, adding that form one selection would take place on May 28, 2021.

Form One Selection 2021; CS Magoha Responds to parents’ Quest to Change Form one placement

Form One Reporting Dates: MoE Issues Official Form One Reopening Dates

Form One Placement 2021: Education CS George Magoha has responded to parents who have been protesting the Form One placement of their children.

While speaking to the press on Thursday, June 17, Magoha told the parents to be contented with the placement process.

He also explained that the government would ensure that all students were properly funded and that all schools in Kenya were good institutions.

“The question we have to ask ourselves is ‘which one is a good school?’ As far as I am concerned, a good school is any school found within the confines of the Republic of Kenya because the government gives equal amounts of Ksh22,244 to every child in whichever school.

“This has been proven when you saw sub-county schools converting 191 marks into university material. This craze of Top 10 schools must stop,” stated Magoha.

He further noted that the slots in the most preferred schools were way fewer that the number of students requesting to be admitted in them.

“We cannot fit about 100,000 children in 5,000 slots so stop making noise and encourage your children. It is not the school that will make the child but their zeal and zest,” added Magoha.

Magoha on Tuesday, June 15, during the launch of the Form One selection results in Nairobi, disclosed some schools unexpectedly got thousands of applicants from KCPE 2020 candidates.

Shortly after the announcement, parents began protesting that their children had not been placed in institutions they preferred.

Some claimed that the children were admitted in day schools far away from their homes noting that it would be tedious for the children to attend the institutions on a daily basis.

During the release, Magoha had noted that all the 8,091 candidates who scored 400 marks and above had been admitted to national and extra-county schools.

Some of the unexpected schools that received thousands of applications include Nanyuki Boys High School (154,524), Kabianga High School (142,000), Nyandarua High School (123,000), Nakuru High Schools (100,000), Butere Highest School (94,000) and Mbooni Girls (93,000).

Some of the popular schools that got thousands of applicants include; Alliance Girls High School (105,000), Pangani Girls High School (124,000), Maseno School (104,000) and Kapsaret Boys High School (95,000).

“It is important to educate our teachers that the best schools are not the ones that we are applying to, otherwise, selection becomes difficult,” the CS stated.

Form One students are expected to report to school on August 2, 2021

MOE adopts new selection formula for placement of KCPE 2020 Candidates in secondary schools

MOE adopts new selection formula for placement of KCPE 2020 Candidates in secondary schools

(2021) Form one 2021 placement letters, and lists/results Per Category- National schools, Extra County Schools and Countys chools in kenya; 2021 Form one  selection/ placement results, admission lists and admission letters

The Ministry of Education has introduced a new selection formula for secondary school placement for 1,179,182 pupils who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams this year.

The ministry says it will conduct only one selection and placement exercise in 2021 as compared to earlier selection exercises which opened the process to parents and candidates to choose their preferred schools during the second round of selection.

The new formula will likely affect candidates who scored less than 350 marks who normally land their selected schools during the second selection phase.

8,091 candidates scored above 400 marks while 282,090 candidates scored between 300 and 399 marks in the 2020 KCPE exam.

Education CS Magoha affirmed to parents that the new process would ensure learners get a fair opportunity in securing top slots in the coveted county and national schools.

“We want a system that will pick the best brains from Kiandutu slums in Thika and take them to Alliance Girls High school” Magoha stated.

The form one selection process is normally determined by merit, candidate’s preferences, regional balance, and affirmative action which opts to favour students in regional areas.

Regional balance helps students who soared higher marks in their counties or sub-counties get an opportunity to join national schools. On Thursday, April 15, during the release of the 2020 KCPE results Professor Magoha announced that there would be a 100 percent transition of all candidates into secondary schools.

He also stated that the government would give 9,000 scholarships to students from needy and poor backgrounds.

“I wish to assure the country that the Ministry has already conducted an audit of all new and existing vacancies in all our private and public schools to enable us to admit all learners under the Free Day Secondary Education program.

“We are determined to work with the relevant agencies to ensure that no candidate misses a place in secondary school,” he stated.

2021 Form One Selection Parameters

It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education to place all the 2020 KCPE candidates to their secondary school of choice.

The Ministry places the students to all public National, Extra County, County and Sub County schools.

Placement of the KCPE 2020 candidates is done based on criteria set by the Ministry of Education.

Top on the list of factors that the Ministry considers is the candidate’s performance (total marks) in the KCPE 2020 examinations. Students with the highest scores (Over 400) are always placed at National Schools.

The vice versa is versa is true as students with lowest scores are placed in Sub County schools.

Another criteria that is considered is affirmative action; where the cut off marks for form one selection is lowered considerably for vulnerable groups of students.

The general performance at the KCPE examinations is also a key determinant in determining the cut-off points for the various categories of schools.

Last, but not least, the form one admissions is pegged on the specific schools’ Form one capacities. This is the maximum number of form one students that a school can accommodate; based on the available space and physical facilities. Schools can request for change of 2021 form one placements (Adjustment of school’s form one capacity).

Where the capacity of a school has improved due to development of additional facilities in the year, a principal must request for placement of additional students and approval in NEMIS.

After the application, the Ministry reviews and adjusts the school’s form one capacity; usually by allowing the school to admit more form one students.
