Senate now wants primary and secondary schools to reopen in September
The Senate Education committee now wants the CS to retract his earlier announcement about the official schools’ reopening date.
According to the committee, there is no point of pushing the reopening date to January 2021.
Presenting the recommendations of the committee before the house, Dr Milgo Alice Chepkorir said that the CS should rescind his earlier decision and reopen schools in September as planned.
She further said that this could give room for division of classes into smaller sizes as recommended by the World Health Organization, WHO.
The committee recommended a phased reopening of all basic learning institutions as from September. Priority should be given to candidates so that they can prepare for their national exams.
This comes at a time when the number of Covid 19 cases for is rising.
The surging cases of the novel Coronavirus have necessitated President Uhuru Kenyatta to call for an emergency summit to discuss the level of preparedness of counties to deal with the pandemic.
