Post Graduate Diploma in Education, PGDE and TSC Requirements

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is a course that gives opportunity to students who pursued either bachelor of education arts or bachelor education science to become teachers. This course is offered in various universities across the country.

TSC Requirements to study Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Teachers Service Commission, TSC, is a body that is mandated with registration, employment and dismissal of teachers. It is therefore important to see to it your meet set minimum requirements by the commission so as not to find yourself in an awkward situation after completing your PGDE course.

In order for one to pursue PGDE, the following minimum requirements must be met:

Bachelor of education arts.
Bachelor education science.
KCSE Mean grade C+(Plus).
At least C+ (plus) in the two teaching Subjects.
TSC Recruitment Score Sheet for PGDE Teacher
TSC recruitment score sheet for graduate, degree BA + PGDE or BSC + PGDE and master degree teachers is the same.

Other marks are awarded for according to Length of stay since qualifying as a teacher (since graduation), communication ability and Co-curricular certificate of participation.

Certificate in early Childhood Education (CECD) Minimum mean grade C (minus) at KCSEOr
Minimum mean grade D+ (Plus) at KCSE and KNEC proficiency certificate

2 Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECD) Mean grade C (Plain) at KCSE and ECDE Certificate from KNECOr
Mean grade C+ (plus) and above for University Diploma.

3 Diploma in Teacher Education (Arts)
Minimum grade C Plus in KCSE and above
C+ (plus) in the two subjects specialization
At least C plain in English
D+( plus) in Mathematics
4 Diploma in Teacher Education (Science)
Minimum grade C Plus in KCSE and above
C+ (plus) in the two subjects specialization
At least C plain in English
C (plain) in Mathematics
5 Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE)
A mean grade of C
Mean grade C+ and above
Mean grade C+ and above
6 Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) A mean grade of C (plain) and C plain two teaching subjects
7 Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood (BECD) Mean grade C+ and above
8 Bachelor of Education (Science)
Minimum grade C+ (Plus) in KCSE and above and C+ (plus) in the two subjects of specialization
Post graduate diploma in Education (PGDE)
9 Bachelor of Education (Arts)
Minimum mean grade C+ (plus) and above or its equivalent C+ (plus) in two subjects of specialization
Post graduate diploma in Education (PGDE)
10 Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
Minimum grade C Plus in KCSE and above
C+ (plus) in the two subjects specialization.
11 Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education (Primary Education) Mean grade C+ and above
12 Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education (Secondary Education
Minimum mean grade C+ (plus) and above or its equivalent.
C+ (plus) in two subjects of specialization
13 Master of Education Bachelor of Education with at least Second Class, Honours, Upper Division or its equivalent from a recognized University.OR
Bachelor of Education with Second Class, Honours Lower Division or its equivalent from a recognized University with at least two years teaching experience.

OR

Bachelor of Arts /Science degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognized University.

14 Doctor of Philosophy Master of Education degree in a relevant area of specialization.
15 Enhancement
A Bachelor’s Degree.
Must have studied the subject at KCSE except for Agriculture, Business Studies, Home Science and Computer.
For Business studies and Computer, one should have attained a minimum of C+ in Mathematics in KCSE.
For Agriculture and Home science, one should have attained a minimum of C+ in Biology at KCSE.
The minimum number of course units to be enhanced in each Teaching subject is eight (8)
Should be done before PGDE.
