Education News Today: New KICD Set Books 2022-2026; Full List of new Compulsory and Optional Set Books Approved by KICD Starting April 2022 for Secondary Schools in Kenya

 

Education News Today: The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD has finalized the complete list of new set books for Literature and Fasihi to be examined during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education-KCSE national exams starting 2023.

Initially, there was a list of new set books doing rounds but it was incomplete.

MOE  Circular 2022 for NEW SETBOOKS 2022-2026

In the new line-up of Kiswahili Fasihi and English Literature set books, all set books that are currently being studied in secondary schools will be replaced. The genres set to be replaced encompass the compulsory novel-Blossoms of the Savannah by Henry Ole Kulet, compulsory drama- A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, Optional novella-The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Optional Drama- The Inheritance by David Mulwa and Optional Anthology of Short Stories- Memories we Lost and other Short Stories.

The new changes are set to be effected as from April 2022 when schools reopen for the new 2022 academic year when the current form twos will be joining form three.

The new set books will be used to instruct learners for a maximum period of five years between  2022-2026. The current set books will thus be fully replaced having finished their five year cycle(2027-2021) by December  2022 when the current form three students will be sitting their KCSE national examinations set to be administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council, Knec then.

Compulsory Novel- Fathers of Nations by Paul M. Vitta (New 2022-2026) to replace Blossoms of the Savannah by Henry Ole Kulet (Current-2017-2021)

Compulsory Play/Drama(From the rest of the world)- The Samaritan by John Lara (New 2022-2026) to replace A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen(Current-2017-2021)

Optional Anthology of Short Stories-A Silent Song and Other Stories(2022-2026) to replace Memories We Lost and Other Stories (Current 2017-2021)

Optional Play/Drama- A Parliament of Owls by Odipo Sidang (2023-2026) to replace Inheritance by David Mulwa (2017-2021)

 Tamthilia-Bembea by Dr. Timothy Moriasi (2022-2026) to replace Kigogo by Pauline Kea (2017-2021)
