KNEC Announces Project Submission Deadlines for 2025 National Exams

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has unveiled a series of projects and performance tasks in preparation for the national exams scheduled for late 2025.

In a notice issued on Monday, May 12, 2025, KNEC revealed that these tasks are aimed at students in Grades 3, 7, and 8. Those eligible for the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will also be required to complete their projects.

“The projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as the stage-based pathway and KJSEA, have been made available on the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) portal (https://cba.knec.ac.ke) for schools to access,” the announcement stated.

**Guidelines for Implementation**

Schools are tasked with overseeing the execution of these projects and performance tasks, ensuring that all student scores are uploaded to the CBA portal within the designated timeframe.

Teachers will evaluate students as they complete the tasks, using the provided guidelines for scoring. Furthermore, headteachers must maintain thorough records and documentation of the assessments conducted.

**Submission Deadlines**

For students participating in the stage-based pathway, project submissions are due by July 31, 2025. Meanwhile, KJSEA project scores must be uploaded by August 30, 2025, as specified by KNEC.

“Schools are required to manage the projects and performance tasks, ensuring that all scores for Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as the stage-based pathway, are uploaded by July 31, 2025, and KJSEA projects by August 30, 2025,” the notice emphasized.

Failure to submit scores by the deadlines will result in a penalty of Ksh 500 for each candidate. “A fine of Ksh 500 per candidate will apply for any KJSEA project uploads made after the specified deadline,” KNEC reiterated.
