The National Health Insurance Fund, NHIF is a government accredited medical service provider whose major function is to register and offer medical insurance to Kenyans from across the country.
NHIF provides the following essential health services: outpatient, inpatient, radiology imaging, cancer treatment, reproductive health services and renal dialysis.

A line registered by Safaricom for Mpesa services
A deposit of at least Kshs 522 in your Mpesa account: Kshs 500 for the NHIF monthly installment and Kshs 22 service charge.

How to pay your NHIF monthly contribution via Mpesa

- Access your Mpesa menu on your phone’s home screen by clicking on the tab labeled Sim Tool kit.
- From the Mpesa menu, select the “Lipa na Mpesa”option.
- Next, click on the Pay bill option.
- Enter the business number which in this case is the NHIF pay bill number 200222.
- Next, click on the tab labeled “Account Number” and enter your national ID number for example 134256.
- Enter the amount you would like to send to the NHIF. The monthly installment is usually Kshs 500 and a service charge of Kshs 22.
- Enter your MPesa pin and click on the tab labeled “send” to submit the amount to the NHIF.
- Like other Mpesa payments, a message will pop up to confirm the details of the payment such as the recipient, the amount and account number (ID number).
“Pay NHIF Kshs 500 for account number 134256…cost Kshs 22.”
- If the details are correct, wait for a confirmation message for your NHIF monthly installment payment.
- In case the details are wrong, enter any letter in the popup message within 25 seconds to cancel the transaction.
How to register for NHIF Supa Cover
To register for the National Hospital Insurance Fund services, kindly visit any NEAREST NHIF branch.
Requirements for NHIF registration
- A copy of your national identification card, ID card.
- Kshs 1, 500 registration fee.
- Colour passport, normally taken by the NHIF staff on arrival.
- In the case of dependents who are below 18 years, have copies of their birth certificates
- If you are married and you would like to include your spouse in your cover, ensure that you carry your marriage certificate or an affidavit sworn by an advocate of the high court showing that you are married.
NHIF Registration requirements for TSC Teachers
In the case of a teacher, you will need the following to register for NHIF services
- A copy of your national identification card, ID card.
- TSC Appointment letter.
- An introduction letter from your immediate boss, the school principal or head.
- Colour passport, normally taken by the NHIF staff on arrival.
- In the case of dependents who are below 18 years, have copies of their birth certificates
- If you are married and you would like to include your spouse in your cover, ensure that you carry your marriage certificate or an affidavit sworn by an advocate of the high court showing that you are married.
