According to The Standard, there are 700, 000 vacancies in sub-county and approximately 100, 000 in private schools.

This comes as a relief for parents whose school transfer requests were rejected since they could not change their initial form one placement since these schools were not included in the NEMIS portal.

The following categories of schools can now be accessed from the Ministry of Education’s official website by interested parents: few extra county schools, a few county schools, and a good number of sub-county and private schools.

According to a circular released by the Education, PS Belio Kipsang addressed to regional directors, all schools have been uploaded into the NEMIS system. Therefore, parents who requested to have their children transferred from one school to another should download the letters from the MOE website ahead of 2020 form one admissions next week.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR 2020 FORM ONE PLACEMENT (NATIONAL, EXTRA COUNTY AND COUNTY) SCHOOLS

Here is a simplified procedure you should follow when requesting for a change of form one admission for national, extra county and county schools:

. The parent or guardian shall place a request to change his/ her child’s school by selecting their preferred school.

. The preferred school will then shortlist and merit all students in the waiting list and choose depending on the available slots/ vacancies.

. The school shall then enter the details of selected candidates from the waiting list and request the Ministry of Education to capture their details in the new school through the National Education Management System, NEMIS:

. Approval will be granted depending on the category of the school. Approval to join national schools will be granted at the Ministry of Education’s Head Office, extra county schools at Regional coordinators and county schools at county directors of education offices.

. Once the approval to join your new school has been granted, the candidate will be moved from the selection in his or her first school to the new school.

. Complete the process by going online and printing the admission letter for your new school.

NOTE

THE CHANGE OF FORM ONE PLACEMENT IS IRREVERSIBLE, BE CAUTIOUS NOT TO BE PLACED IN SCHOOLS YOU DO NOT WANT.

IF A SCHOOL DECIDES TO OFFER A PLACE TO A STUDENT, IT IS THE SCHOOL’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENTER THE DETAILS OF THE NEW STUDENT INTO THE NEMIS PORTAL.

CHANGE OF FORM ONE PLACEMENTS FOR NATIONAL AND EXTRA COUNTY SCHOOLS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.

CHANGE OF ADMISSION FOR COUNTY, SUB COUNTY AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IS AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED BY THE NEMIS SYSTEM.

CAN A SCHOOL REQUEST FOR EXTRA VACANCIES?

The school principal can place a request for the placement of more students through the NEMIS Portal if the school’s capacity has been improved by the development of additional facilities within the year.
