Migori County Nurses’ union has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the county government to provide nurses with Coronavirus protective gear lest they down their tools.

Speaking on Citizen TV News Live, the chair-Morris Achochi said that Migori nurses were not well prepared to handle coronavirus cases in case they pop up since the County Government was yet to provide them with coronavirus protective gear.

Mr. Achochi pointed an accusing finger at the Migori County Government for failing to adequately prepare them to combat coronavirus pandemic at the county level.

The dissatisfied nurses in Migori County are yet to move to Coronavirus Quarantine facilities.

They have accused the county government of exposing them to the risk of coronavirus.

This revelation is not only shocking but also ironic given the fact that the Migori County Government had assured Kenyans that the County was armed to the tooth in as far as combating coronavirus pandemic is concerned.

Migori County had cited top-notch preparation having allegedly trained 24 nurses, 8 clinical officers and 4 lab technicians to combat the novel covid 19 pandemic.

Besides, the county said that it had acquired enough coronavirus protective gear and set aside quarantine facilities for coronavirus patients.

Porous Border

The looming nurses’ strike in Migori County is likely to pose a major challenge in fighting and containing the spread of coronavirus given that the county is located in the Kenya-Tanzania border.

This qualifies Migori County as a potential Coronavirus high-risk area given the porous Kenya-Tanzania border.

There are many entry points in the county that are likely to increase the chances of coronavirus spread in Kenya.
