It has come to our attention that the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC is set to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer, CEO who will take over from the current KNEC acting CEO Dr. Mercy Karogo.

Requirements for Appointment as Knec CEO
The advert at our disposal shows that the Knec recruitment board seeks the following qualities in a CEO: firm, self-driven, results oriented, dynamic, innovative, robust, fair and transparent
The candidate should also have expertise in curriculum conceptualization, development and evaluation to effectively oversee the full roll out of examination reforms under CBC.
The candidate is also expected to be dynamic, with a strategic mind and passion for performance and have the ability to motivate teams.
S/he must also deliver measurable performance outputs.
Demonstrate capacity to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment with respect and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Academic Requirements for Appointment as Knec CEO
Kenyan citizenship
A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Education or any other relevant field from a recognized institution
At least 10 years experience in matters Education, training, research, policy formulation and government procedures
Thorough Knowledge in structural legislative and regulatory framework
Skills in analysis and re-engineering of operations and procedures with strong knowledge in ICT and media management
Financial management skills
Track record of innovation and creativity
Experience in transformative and strategic leadership
S/he must meet the requirements of chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution that touches on Leadership and Integrity.
About Dr. Mercy Karogo- Outgoing Knec CEO
Appointed as the Acting Knec CEO in 2016, Dr Karogo has stamped out cheating in exams and restored the credibility of our national KCSE and KCPE exams.
She took over from Dr. Fred Matiang’i who received accolade for eliminating exam leakages during national exams.
Dr. Karogo was appointed alongside the current cabinet secretary for Education Professor George Magoha who was then appointed as the council chair during Matiang’i reign.
The change in leadership at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC comes at a time when the Education system is still grappling with a disrupted school calendar following the extended closure propagated by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to some experts, this may affect the preparation for the forthcoming national examinations before the end of this year.
New Roles for Knec Chief Executive Officer, CEO
The new CEO will be axpected to: guarantee the safety of national examinations.
S/he will also oversee Examinations reforms under the new competency-based curriculum.
Manage the affairs and transactions of Knec
Implementing corporate strategic plans and policies
Appointment
The CEO shall hold office for a duration of five years and will be eligible for reappointment for one term subject to performance appraisal by the Council.
