The Teachers Service Commission opened a window for the deployment of primary school teachers to secondary schools.
In its previous deployment, the TSC advertised 1000 vacancies. Successful P1 teachers joined Grade C2 T-Scale 7 meaning that their salaries increased significantly.
Unfortunately, many P1 tutors who applied for deployment into secondary but they were not selected still have many questions unanswered. Some do not understand the criteria used to deploy P1 teachers to secondary schools.

Just like TSC internships, P1 teachers wishing to be deployed by the Teachers Service Commission, TSC to secondary schools are expected to apply online via the TSC E-recruitment Center.

DEPLOYMENT OF P1 TEACHERS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS (SELECTION CRITERIA)
Not all P1 teachers are eligible to apply for deployment to secondary schools in Kenya. Eligible candidates must meet the following minimum requirements;
- Be Kenyan Citizens
- Be holders of a valid P1 certificate
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with two teaching subjects
- Have a KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) and above or its equivalent.
- Have at least C+ (Plus) in the two teaching areas (subjects.)
DEPLOYMENT OF P1 TEACHERS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The application procedure for deployment of P1 teachers to secondary schools is quite simple.
- Access the TSC online portal for the appointment of teachers in public primary schools by clicking HERE
- Scroll down the page to check whether you are eligible by reading through the Requirements
- Remember to check the terms of service too.
- Next, fill in your details on the spaces provided under the “APPLICANT DETAILS” Section. This step includes verification of your data including your Surname, Id No/ Passport No, and TSC No.
- Confirm whether you are serving under Career Progression Guidelines, CPGs.
- Confirm whether you have a PI Certificate then click on the tab labeled “Continue” to proceed.
- Complete the next steps by following the instructions given.
DEPLOYMENT OF P1 TEACHERS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS GRADE/ JOB GROUP AND SALARY
P1 teachers who get successfully deployed to secondary schools enjoy better TSC salaries and allowances given the higher job group or grade that comes with the deployment.
Successful applicants get to join Grade C2 (T-Scale 7).
They will be earning a basic salary of 31, 956 per month now that the TSC has effected an annual salary increment for teachers in all job groups.

Once the selection exercise is over, the TSC will provide a list of all the successful applicants and dispatch their deployment letters directing them to report in their new stations of work.
DEPLOYMENT OF P1 TEACHERS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS POSTING LETTERS
Deployment of P1 teachers’ letters are dispatched the current work stations/schools directing the P1 teachers to report to their new stations of work within the stipulated time.
The TSC deployment letters also indicate the teacher’s new Grade, previously referred to as Job Group that is Grade C2 and the teacher’s new salary after deployment.
The posting letter also indicates the terms of the work.
