KNEC 2023 Technical Examinations Timetable, Check Timings and Instructions: June/July 2023
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released the official timetable for the June/July 2023 Technical Examinations.
The timetable includes important instructions for supervisors, teachers, and candidates to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
Additionally, strict regulations have been established to maintain fairness and integrity throughout the examination process.

Time Allocation: Each paper has a specified time limit, clearly stated on the question paper. Candidates must adhere to the allotted time and are not allowed any extra time. Visually impaired candidates will receive the same time as stated on their respective papers.
Examination Start Time: All examination sessions will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Identification and Signatures: Candidates must write their names, index numbers, and sign their answer scripts before submission to the supervisor.
Instructions to Supervisors, Teachers, and Candidates:
Notification: Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the instructions are communicated effectively to teachers and candidates.
Training: Teachers must train students on how to follow the instructions provided and make them aware of the penalties for irregularities or misconduct.
Compliance: Candidates are required to carefully adhere to the instructions throughout the examination process.
General Instructions to Candidates:
Punctuality: Candidates should be seated in the examination room at least five minutes before the scheduled time. Candidates arriving late must provide a satisfactory reason to the supervisor and may be denied entry if more than half an hour late.
Clarification: If an examination paper is received for a subject the candidate is not registered for or if the questions require additional material, the candidate should immediately notify the supervisor.
Attention to Directions: Candidates should carefully read any general directions given at the beginning of each paper, such as limitations on the number of questions to be answered.
Answer Book Instructions: Candidates must write their names, index numbers, and paper names on the first page of each answer book or sheet. The index number must be written clearly on every subsequent sheet or page.
Answering Format: Write on both sides of the paper, avoiding the margins. Begin each part of a question on a fresh line.
Numbering and Formatting: Clearly write the question number in the left-hand margin before answering. Do not copy the question. Maintain the same numbering system as provided in the question paper and leave a blank line after each answer.
Writing Materials: Use black or blue ink for answers. Fountain pens or ballpoint pens are acceptable. Pencils should be used only for diagrams. Handwriting and spelling will be taken into account. Mathematical and drawing instruments should be brought for relevant subjects.
Question Understanding: Carefully read and understand each question to avoid wasting time on unnecessary information that is not asked for and carries no marks.
Time Management: Allocate sufficient time to answer all questions effectively and avoid spending too much time on a few questions, neglecting others that could be answered.
Submission: Once the notice to stop writing is given, organize answer books and sheets in the correct order and ensure that the index number is written on each. Submit the papers unfolded and fastened together at the left-hand corner to the supervisor.
Withdrawal: Candidates who wish to withdraw from the examination must notify the Council before taking any papers.
Caution and Prohibited Actions:
Examination Room Exit: Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination room before the allocated time, except with special permission from the supervisor. No question papers may be taken out of the room.
Confidentiality: Ensure that your answers and written sheets are not accessible to other candidates. Do not provide or seek unfair assistance, including copying. Communication with other candidates or outsiders is strictly prohibited during the examination.
Prohibited Materials: Candidates are not allowed to possess or have nearby any unauthorized materials, including books, notes, or papers. Only the correct question paper and authorized materials provided by the Kenya National Examinations Council are allowed.
Use of Mathematical Tables: Only mathematical tables printed by the Kenya National Examinations Council may be used, without any additional notes. Slide rules may be used if they do not contain formulae or data that could provide an advantage over other candidates.
Reporting Incorrect Papers: Immediately inform the supervisor if an incorrect question paper is provided.
Writing Paper: Candidates must not take any used or unused writing paper out of the examination room. Rough work should be done on the official answer paper and left on the desks for collection by the supervisor.
Conduct: Disorderly conduct or disturbance during or near the examination will be treated as a serious irregularity.
Mobile Phones: The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in the examination rooms and the examination center. Possession of a mobile phone will result in cancellation of the candidate’s results.
Penalties for Irregularities:
The KNEC Act 2012 stipulates rules and regulations regarding examination irregularities and the corresponding penalties. Some key points are as follows:
A candidate found guilty of an examination irregularity in any paper will have the results for the entire subject cancelled, receiving a result of “Y.”
In cases of widespread irregularities in a center, the examination results for the entire center will be cancelled.
Offenses such as revealing examination contents, damaging examination materials, or attempting to impersonate a registered candidate carry penalties of imprisonment, fines, or both.
