The Teachers Service Commission has hinted at including involvement of teachers in this year’s national examinations in the TPAD.
This is good news for teachers who have been spending time to invigilate, supervise and mark the national examinations.
Teachers with a non-committal attitude will reap what they have been sowing all along.
The information was released by the TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia who said that the idea was aimed at rewarding teachers who contribute to the delivery of credible examinations and results.
This year, a total of 179, 149 teachers will be involved in the administration of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education which is set to commence in two weeks.
She said that the Teachers Service Commission is planning to put more weight on the importance of national examinations management to TPADS and future promotions.
This will form part of the revision and reviews that will be implemented soon.
Teacher promotions have been pegged on the TPAD tool since the year 2016 on a pilot basis.
Last year, however, the Labour Court blocked the TSC from implementing career progression guidelines which gave way to performance contracting when employing teachers.
Justice Byram Ongaya said the TSC failed to convince him how the failure to implement career progression guidelines would paralyse its operations.
In the lawsuit, KNUT claimed that the TPAD tools had greatly demotivated teachers for they were not only time consuming but also costly.
The time spent by a teacher filling the paperwork greatly reduced the contact hour between teachers and students.
On her part, the TSC Boss Dr Nancy Macharia said that failure to implement the TPAD tools will make teachers less accountable while exercising their duty.
Therefore, Justice Ongaya directed the commission to convene a meeting for finalizing the TPAD tools by December before rolling them out in the year 2020.
