  1. The Yoruba of Nigeria

Being the main occupants of South Western Nigeria, the Yoruba is listed among the top 10 richest tribes in Africa.

Yoruba is one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa with a population of close to 35 million.

The majority of the Yoruba people live in Nigeria constituting up to 20% of Nigeria’s population.

The Yoruba people’s opulence can be associated with their flexibility and willingness to embrace western civilization earlier.

Most professionals in Nigeria trace their history back to the Yoruba.

  1. The Zulu of South Africa

Zulu is one of the richest tribes in Africa. Their language is isiZulu. They are mostly found in South Africa.

Other countries with the Zulu people include Zambia and Zimbabwe. Besides being one of the richest tribes, the Zulu are popular for their elegant and rigorous cultural festivals.

The Zulu’s population is estimated to be 11 million.

  1. The Pedi (South Africa)

With its origin being traced back to South Africa, the Pedi people have also been glorified and listed among the top 10 richest tribes in the continent of Africa.

The Pedi were majorly involved in herding and farming before the majority of the people migrated to cities in South Africa in search of greener pastures.

Their population is estimated to be 7 million.

  1. The Hausa- Fulani of Nigeria

 

Given their high populations, the Hausa and Fulani of Nigeria are the most successful in politics, a major predisposing factor for their riches.

The two have also taken to Agriculture and trading sectors in Nigeria making them be listed among the top 10 richest tribes in the African continent.

The richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote hails from the Hausa tribe in Nigeria.

  1. The Suri (Ethiopia)

Suri is one of the richest tribes in Africa. Their language is Surma and they majorly occupy Islands in Countries like Sudan and Ethiopia.

The strangest element of the Suri culture is that they can only marry within their tribe. The Suri does not practice inter-marriages.

  1. The Ashanti of Ghana

To date, the Ashanti is the largest tribe in Ghana with a population of approximately 7 million. This is nearly half the population of Ghana.

The Ashanti is one of the elusive matrilinear/ matriarchal societies in West Africa and Africa as a whole.

Renowned for the splendor and opulence of their rulers, the Ashanti are known for their skillful artwork and trademark kente cloth.

Other outstanding qualities of the Ashanti people include extravagant funeral ceremonies, masks, sculptures and furniture.

  1. The Igbo of Nigeria

Igbo is the most successful and most popular tribe in Nigeria.

Their wealth can be attributed to business since their major obsession is amassing wealth.

  1. The El Molo of Kenya

Despite being the smallest tribe in Kenya, El Molo is also one of the richest tribes in Africa.

Their language is Maa. The El Molo are majorly known for fishing and hunting with their major source of livelihood being the hippopotamus in Lake Turkana.

  1. The Xhosa of South Africa

The Xhosa mainly occupy the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

Their unique quality being the click sounds with which they speak, the Xhosa people are listed among the richest in the African continent.

  1. The Oromo of Ethiopia

The Oromo is the most populous tribe in Ethiopia. This tribe constitutes up to 40% of Ethiopia’s population.

Their main language being Oromo, the Oromo is listed among the top 10 richest tribes in Africa 2020/2021.
