With a population of over 4 million, Nairobi stands out as the bustling capital city of Kenya. Although Nairobi is a bustling center of commerce and progress, certain sub-counties still endure considerable adversity.

The TSC has identified a number of sub-counties as regions of adversity. Behold, the sub-counties that make up this magnificent land are none other than Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, and Mukuru Kwa Reuben.

Kibera

Nestled in the bustling city of Nairobi lies Kibera, a vibrant informal settlement that houses a staggering 500,000 individuals. Kibera, unfortunately, is home to a large population of individuals who face the harsh reality of living below the poverty line. Access to basic necessities such as clean water, sanitation, and healthcare is a daily struggle for these residents. Moreover, the incidence of criminal activities is soaring, and the locality is susceptible to conflagrations and other calamities.

Mathare

Mathare, a sub-county that grapples with formidable obstacles. Mathare, an active suburb with a population of around half a million, is known for its persistent challenges of joblessness, criminal activities, and destitution. Residents in the area are grappling with a multitude of challenges, compounded by the absence of fundamental amenities like healthcare and education.

Korogocho

Korogocho sub-county brimming with life and energy. Around 150,000 individuals call this place their home, but it’s not without its fair share of obstacles. The area grapples with inadequate infrastructure, soaring crime rates, and restricted entry to fundamental amenities.

Mukuru kwa Ruben and mukuru kwa Njenga

Hidden in the southern region of Nairobi lies two vibrant sub-counties, Mukuru Kwa Njenga and Mukuru Kwa Reuben. These bustling areas are brimming with life and culture, offering a unique glimpse into the heart of the city. These two regions are marked by pervasive destitution, restricted availability of fundamental amenities like clean water and hygienic sanitation, and an absence of job prospects.

Amidst the hurdles, teachers in these sub-regions are relentlessly striving to provide their pupils with an unparalleled learning experience. It’s not uncommon for them to exceed their regular responsibilities in order to offer extra assistance to students who might be dealing with unique obstacles outside of school.

In an effort to tackle the obstacles encountered by teachers in these particular regions, the TSC has executed a multitude of initiatives. In order to support teachers working in remote regions, various measures have been implemented. These encompass the provision of special allowances to teachers facing challenging circumstances, along with access to training and resources aimed at enhancing their teaching abilities and enabling them to deliver top-notch education to their pupils.

Although commendable strides have been made, there is still a pressing need to tackle head-on the obstacles that teachers encounter while working in these underprivileged sub-counties. The plan encompasses a multifaceted approach to enhance the educational experience for students in underprivileged regions. This involves amplifying the allocation of resources towards schools in these areas, facilitating better accessibility to fundamental amenities, and extending supplementary aid to teachers to enable them to impart top-notch education to their pupils.

As we move forward with the unwavering backing of the TSC and other invested parties, we can surmount these obstacles and empower teachers in these regions to furnish their pupils with exceptional learning experiences.
