This third phase of the Kazi Mtaani Recruitment Programme, the government has unleashed a  complete package of goodies ranging from an extended contract period to June 2022 to better payment rates per day and per week.

According to the latest Kazi Mtaani Payment Rates, successful applicants will be paid Kshs 8, 000 at the end of every two weeks. This money will be credited directly into the recruits’ M-pesa accounts to help them manage their daily expenses having been rendered jobless by the biting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Kazi Mtaani website crashed Friday after the government rolled out the third phase of the programme which is set to benefit more than 200,000 youth in the country.

State Department of Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga blamed the crashing of the portal on unprecedented traffic.

The government has begun the third phase of the initiative to provide more job opportunities to the youth countrywide.

It aims to factor in at least 3,400 experienced, semi-skilled, and inexperienced youth across all 47 counties.

The opportunities include construction works to complete previously stalled economic stimulus program market, construction works using Appropriate Building Materials and Technologies (ABMT), construction of hostels in selected TVETS, and construction works to remove asbestos roofing in government estates.

This time, the youth are required via the Kazi Mtaani Management System portal for transparency and equitable service for everyone.

“I want to assure you that Kazi Mtaani phase three will be bigger and better because we have time to plan well for it. When the pandemic first hit last year, we had to react to ensure that many Kenyans living in informal settlements would not go to bed hungry,” Hinga said.

The National Treasury has allocated Ksh.10 billion for the phase 3 initiative which is expected to last in June 2022.

The initiative is part of a 13-point stimulus package President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on October 20 this year.

It is a move seen at pumping money into pockets of Kenyans amidst economic headwinds in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Kazi Mtaani initiative was last extended in March this year after the President gave a directive.

The extension was a major relief to over 280,000 youth countrywide who engaged in the programme.

By then, beneficiaries were operating on two shifts, each working for 11 days a month. They could earn Ksh.455 per day, while supervisors pocketed Ksh.505 daily. The same would apply in phase 3.

The payment was being done via M-Pesa at the rate of 99 percent, injecting over Ksh.700 million into the grassroots economy every two weeks.

The National Hygiene Program (NHP), dubbed Kazi Mtaani, is a national initiative designed to cushion the most vulnerable but able-bodied citizens living in informal settlements from the effects and response strategies of the COVID-19 pandemic.
