TSC ISSUES NEW WORKLOAD FOR TEACHERS AND MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ADMINISTRATIVE POSTS PER SCHOOL; TSC NEWS, CIRCULAR
The Teachers Service Commission, TSC has issued a circular outlining the number of lessons that TSC-employed teachers in primary and public schools should handle in a week.
According to the latest TSC circular, the minimum workload for primary school tutors is 35 per week. High school teachers on the other hand will be expected to handle a minimum of 27 lessons per week.
The maximum class size of learners will be 50 for primary schools and 45 for secondary schools.
ADMINISTRATIVE POSTS PER SCHOOL
The Commission has at the same time set the maximum number of administrative posts per school.
According to the Circular, Curriculum-Based Establishment, CBE regulations direct that a single-streamed school be it primary or secondary should have only one principal or head, a deputy, and senior teacher/ master.
Primary schools with 10 streams and a maximum of 4, 000 pupils, on the other hand, should have one head, 2 deputies and 8 senior teachers.
Secondary schools with 12 streams and a maximum of 2, 100 students should have one principal, 2 deputies, and 9 senior masters.
TSC ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS FOR PRINCIPALS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Principals have been divided into three tiers leading to different grades. In tier one are principals of National and extra county schools with over 1, 000 students. This is the highest rank that teachers can attain as they climb the TSC promotions ladder. These principals are referred to as chief principals and they fall in grade D5 (T-Scale 15)
The second tier includes principals of county schools with over 540 students. They are referred to as Chief Principals and fall in grade D4 (T-SCALE 14)
The last tier encompasses principals of sub-county and day schools. They are referred to as principals and fall in Grade D3 (T-Scale 13).
TSC ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS FOR DEPUTY PRINCIPALS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Like principals, deputies in secondary schools have been divided into three tiers leading to different grades. In tier one are deputy principals of National and extra county schools with over 1, 000 students. This is the highest rank for deputies. These deputy principals are referred to as Deputy Principal I and they fall in grade D3 (T-Scale 13)
The second tier includes deputy principals of county schools with over 540 students. They are referred to as Deputy Principal II and fall in Grade D2 (T-SCALE 12)
The last tier encompasses the deputy principals of sub-county and day schools. They are referred to as Deputy Principal III and fall in Grade D1 (T-Scale 11).

Senior masters have been divided into three tiers leading to different grades. In tier one are Senior Masters of National and extra county schools with over 1, 000 students. These teachers are referred to as Senior Master I and they fall in Grade D2 (T-Scale 12)
The second tier includes Senior Masters of county schools with over 540 students. They are referred to as Senior Master II and fall in grade D1 (T-SCALE 11)
The last tier encompasses Senior Masters of sub-county and day schools. They are referred to as Senior Master III and fall in Grade C5 (T-Scale 10).

Heads are classified into two main tiers: Heads posted in primary schools with less than 1, 000 pupils who fall in Grade C5 T-Scale 10 and those in primary schools with over 1, 000 learners who fall in Grade D1 T-Scale 11. The latter are referred to as Senior Head Teachers.

They are referred to as Deputy Head Teacher II and Deputy Head Teacher I respectively.
