2020 Co Curricular activities/ Games guidelines: Referees, Coaches and Team Managers’ payment rates as set by the Ministry

Advertisements

The Ministry of Education has released new guidelines for all Co-Curricular activities. In the new guidelines, responsibilities of various officials to be in charge of the Co-curricular activities have been stipulated. Financing for Co-Curricular activities has also been outlined. The sources for funding include: Co- Curricular Activity (CCA) Vote head, Free Primary Education (FPE) funds and Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) funds. The Ministry of education disburses Co- Curricular Activity funds to the Sub- county Directors of Education (SCDEs), County Directors of Education (CDEs) and Regional Directors of Education (RDEs). These field officers have Authority to incur expenses for the various activities.

In the new guidelines, Counties will now pay referees as Sub Counties bear the responsibility of paying their coaches and Team Managers. This means that referees will now receive a flat rate payment unlike in the past where they would receive payments depending on the number of matches officiated. The same will be applied to Regional level championships.

Good news for KCSE, KCPE candidates after CS Magoha makes this announcement

Advertisements

Candidates sitting the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams have been told to remain focused. On Saturday Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha asked the over 1.9 million candidates not to panic. He said the ministry has considered their long absence from school due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prof Magoha said the examinations will be student friendly adding that the examiners who set the KCPE and KCSE exams have considered the effects of the long break.

While urging calm, the CS noted that schools have adequately covered the syllabus.

“Syllabus coverage has been done so there is no need for anxiety…. Do not worry about the examination. We are aware you were at home for nine months, so your hope must remain alive. Do not get stressed. If you believe in God, you will all pass” Magoha told journalists.

The Cabinet Secretary was touring schools in the Western region; including Chavakali Boys’ Secondary School in Vihiga County.

He dismissed reports of leaks, saying the exam questions have not found their way to the market, where parents and students are likely to purchase test papers from people claiming to have them.

The KCSE 2020 exams will be done between March 26th and 21st April, this year (2021). The marking exercise will be conducted for three weeks; between 19th April and 5th May.

On the other hand, the KCPE tests will be written for three days; from 22.03.2021 to 24.03.2021.

Education CS Prof. George Magoha speaks to learners of Chavakali High School, Vihiga County. The CS advised the learners not to panic but to contextualize the KCSE exams set to commence later in March, this year.

Cheating hot spots

People deceiving parents and candidates about selling examination papers risk getting arrested, he added.

Prof Magoha also issued a warning for Isebania, Kisii and Migori, saying they are on the ministry’s radar as it fights exam cheating and other irregularities.

He discouraged the candidates from copying, saying each of them is intelligent.

“I am moving around to encourage students. They are ready for the examinations,” the CS said.

KNEC extends deadline for capturing of marks on LCBE portal

The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, has extended the deadline for uploading of the 2020 scores for grade 4 and class 8 into the LCBE portal. Through a circular sent to all school heads, the Council Boss Dr. Mercy Karogo says the new deadline will now be 20th November, 2020. This is after most schools failed to upload their marks due to congestion in the portal.

Below is the circular to all Head teachers

RE: SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENTS UNDER THE LEARNING CONTINUITY IN BASIC EDUCATION PROJECT

As you are aware, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), on behalf of the Ministry of Education( MOE) conducted school-based learning assessments for Grade 4 and Standard 8 under the Kenya GPE COVID-19 Learning Continuity in Basic Education Project.

Advertisements

The overarching aim of the assessments was to establish learning gaps that may have been occasioned by the long period of closure due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a view to inform on interventions to be put in place towards addressing the gaps.

The Kenya National Examinations Council wishes to thank all Head teachers and teachers of the significant proportion of schools who have successfully uploaded the assessment scores, as well as those who are still uploading the scores.

It has, however, come to the attention of KNEC that the uploading exercise has been faced with challenges, which have slowed the process of uploading.

Advertisements

Cognizant of the challenges, and in order to ensure effective capture of all scores and allow for reliable reporting, KNEC wishes to give the following direction:

  • The deadline for uploading the scores has been extended to 20th November, 2020.
  • Schools shall upload the dully filled excel file, that was downloaded from the KNEC system, without real-time processing of scores. Upon successful uploading, an auto-message will be sent to the schools informing them that “processing shall be done within two (2) weeks”
  • Schools which may have challenges in uploading as guided in 4.2 above, will attach the dully filled excel file downloaded from the KNEC system, and send to the following KNEC e-mail address lcbe@knec.ac.ke. The file shall be processed within two (2) weeks and feedback shall be given.
  • Schools which still face challenges while uploading the scores can contact the Sub County Directors of Education (as guided in the Guidelines of administration of Assessments uploaded on the KNEC portal), or contact KNEC directly on; 0715477646 or 0772069891.
