KUCCPS LATEST CHANGES TO BACHELOR OF EDUCATION COURSES
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) chief executive Agnes Wahome has written to vice-chancellors in both public and private universities directing them to adjust and review their programmes to align them with new proposals from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

“On February 24, the placement service received proposals on the reviewed placement criteria to degree programmes from the TSC,” said Dr. Wahome in the circular dated April 26. She said TSC proposals take cognizance of the introduction of several education courses and recommendations of the CBC Taskforce.

According to TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia, each student pursuing education should have three teaching subjects, (two major subjects and one minor) for cost-effectiveness and proper utilization of the teacher.

“This will assist the commission to handle the new areas that have been introduced in the CBC for junior and senior secondary,” said Ms. Macharia, adding that “the whole course will take five years and a half”.

Ms. Macharia said students will be required to undertake a two full-term practicum of six months after completing the course.

CS Magoha to Shade Light on what the 2020 KCSE Candidates Should Expect

Education CS Professor George  Magoha is today expected to give an update on what the KCSE 2020 candidates should expect when it comes to the upcoming KUCCPS placement exercise for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The CS is expected to give a complete breakdown of how many KCSE 2020 students will be joining universities, colleges, and TVET institutions this year and how much money has been set aside by the government for them.

In May 2021, the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB announced that approximately 93, 000 students will miss the annual HELB allocation this year following the poor performance of loans precipitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to HELB CEO, some beneficiaries have failed to sustain the monthly installment meant to repay their outstanding HELB loans following the slow recovery of the economy after the pandemic paralyzed it.

Besides this, Magoha will confirm whether all the 143, 140 students who attained the minimum university entry grade, C+ and above in the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE exams will get placed in public universities which have already declared their capacity.

The CS will also issue placement options to middle-level colleges for the remaining 5, 000 KCSE candidates who did not attain the minimum university entry grade.

Today is therefore a very special day for the candidates since they will know the capacity of various universities before selecting them and the full list of available courses on the official KUCCPS portal.

KUCCPS Inter-University Transfer; 3 Valid Reasons

  1. Changing of programmes

This happens if one is not fully contented with the program they have been offered to do. Take an example you have been offered a medical course and in between, you get stuck in grasping some medical concepts and then realize that you can do better in business-related courses and your current school does not offer quite good business-related courses hence opting for a transfer.

2. High cost of living and tuition fee

If the cost of living in the school is too high and causing a financial strain on your resources then one can opt to do a transfer to a school where the costs are a bit lower. One may decide to transfer from a private university offering a programme at quite high charges to a public university to take the same program under lower charges.

3. The location is not ideal

Considering what opportunities you want to venture into one can decide to do an inter-university transfer. If one is hoping to secure a job after graduation then a university that is situated in and near towns is most ideal. In some cases, one may want to do some adventure and hence want a school far from home. All in all the security of the school location also may contribute to a transfer.
