All schools countrywide are set to be closed beginning this week. The schools will be closed for almost two months. This will pave way for the KCPE and KCSE national examinations which are set to be done by 2.1 million candidates.

More details emerge that there are also preparations to have the rollout of Grade Six starting from April. Additionally, the government is expected to get ready for the rollout of Junior Secondary which is set for early next year. The current 8-4-4 education system learners are also set to sit for two national examinations this year. Additionally, the first CBC class will do the first national test in December which will be followed by the transition to Junior secondary school early next year.

KNEC indicates that 1,225,507 candidates have been registered for KCPE which will begin soon after the schools close. Moreover, 831,015 candidates will sit for the KCSE. Details indicate that schools with few candidates will be merged to have exam centers with at least 30 candidates.

According to the new school calendar, all learners in all the schools will close from Friday, March 4. However, the candidate classes will remain in school awaiting the national examinations expected to begin from March 7. This will mark the end of the 2021 academic year. The learners will stay home up to 25th April. The schools will then open for the first term under the 2022 academic calendar.
