The South Korea based schools reopened briefly but a resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic in the country’s capital Seoul and its environs forced their closure.

Government-owned parks, art galleries, theaters, and museums in South Korea’s capital have also closed for the next 14 days.

More than 2 million Korean children had resumed studies on Wednesday as part of a phased reopening of schools.

Following the closure of schools in Bucheon, hundreds of other schools have delayed the reopening date.

Confirming the reports, the country’s Education Ministry said the reopening was delayed in 561 schools nationwide due to coronavirus concerns.

ONLINE TEACHING

This forced more than 200 schools to return to online teaching a few days after reopening.

The country reported 79 news covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest in eight weeks.

According to BBC reports, this spike of infections necessitated the return to the roots, tougher social distancing measures, and closure of 251 schools in Bucheon to reduce further spread of the virus.

SCHOOLS’ REOPENING IN KENYA

These details emerge even as some countries are still torn between reopening schools or not. In Kenya for instance, the Education CS appointed a nine-member committee to collect the views of Kenyans on how safe schools and other learning institutions can be reopened.

Upon receiving the proposals of the covid-19 education response team, the CS issued a statement that threw Kenyans further into confusion. CS Magoha said that schools will remain closed as long as the coronavirus pandemic persists.
