<p>The window period issued by the Kenya Revenues Authority for filing 2019/2020 returns is set to expire tomorrow.</p>
<p>It is therefore important for individuals to declare their income, assets, and liability to avoid hefty penalties.</p>
<p>According to the 2018 Finance Act, failure to file individual tax returns attracts a penalty of up to Kshs 2, 000.</p>
<h4><strong>KRA NIL RETURNS</strong></h4>
<p>Filing KRA nil returns does not apply to all individuals. It applies to individuals who do not have a monthly source of income, the unemployed category.</p>
<p>Nil returns also apply to individuals whose monthly income does not meet the threshold for being taxed that is below sh 24, 000.</p>
<p>Note that university students and college students are among the unemployed category. Therefore, they need to file their nil returns as directed by the government.</p>
<h4><strong>LATEST REQUIREMENTS FOR KRA NIL RETURNS FILING</strong></h4>
<p>Before commencing the process of filing your Nil returns, ensure that you have the following key requirements:</p>
<p>KRA PIN Number</p>
<p>KRA iTax Password</p>
<p>KRA PIN NUMBER</p>
<p>This is a unique identification number usually tied to an individual’s ID. It is a key requirement without which you cannot proceed with the application process.</p>
<p>It is obtained from the KRA PIN certificate. This is an alphanumerical (with both letters and numbers) pin.</p>
<p>iTax Password</p>
<p>The iTax password enables you to access and log onto the official iTax portal.</p>
<h4><strong>RESETING YOUR iTax Password</strong></h4>
<p>In case you have forgotten your password, you can always reset it by clicking on the “<strong>Forgot password/Unlock Account</strong>.” Answer the security question then click on the tab labeled “Submit” to reset it.</p>
<p>A new password will be sent to the email you used to register for your KRA PIN.</p>
<h4><strong>HOW TO FILE KRA NIL RETURNS; STEP BY STEP GUIDE</strong></h4>
<p><strong>LOG IN</strong> to the official KRA iTax portal by clicking on the following link <a href="https://itax.kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal/"><strong>https://kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal</strong></a></p>
<p>Enter your <strong>KRA PIN </strong>then click on the tab labeled <strong>CONTINUE </strong>to proceed<strong>.</strong></p>
<p>Fill in your<strong> PASSWORD, </strong>solve the <strong>SECURITY STAMP SUM </strong>then click on<strong> login </strong>to access the<strong> KRA iTax Portal Dashboard.</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Select Tax Obligation as Income Tax-Resident Individual as shown below then click on NEXT</p>
<p>Select the Return Period for instance 01/01/2019 to 31/12/2019. Note that the return period is automatically generated, hence auto-filled based on your filing history</p>
<p>Click on the Submit button then download the KRA Nil Returns Receipt.</p>
