The Teachers Service Commission TSC Kenya is a constitutionally mandated body charged with the responsibility of tracking the implementation of both the 8-4-4 and the new competency-based Curriculum, CBC, by managing and monitoring the progress of a large pool of human resources (teachers.)
Currently, over 350,000 TSC-employed teachers are posted to serve in various capacities, be they classroom teachers or school administrators across the 47 counties of Kenya.
The number of teachers serving in administrative cadres is however a drop in the ocean compared to those who are generally assigned classroom teacher roles.
This explains the dilemma surrounding TSC promotions where the Commission is in a constant fight with teachers’ unions. The two may never have a common ground on of TSC promotions owing to the limited number of TSC Promotions Vacancies since the government is getting to relinquish adequate resources for the same.
