Following the announcement by the Teachers Service Commission about the approval of Kshs 11 billion by members of parliament for the annual salary increment and promotion of TSC-employed teachers, we would like to enlighten you about how various categories of teachers will benefit from the afore-mentioned amount.

Worth noting is that teachers including principals do not receive an equal amount of annual salary increment. The amount differs depending on the teacher’s current grade (job group).

In this article, we shall take you through the TSC annual salary increment for the three categories of principals.

To start with, principals in Kenyan schools are not equal. There are some who are more equal than others if I may quote George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

Those with higher qualifications and more experience in the teaching sector have got an opportunity to rise the ranks. They earn themselves the following honorable titles such as senior principal and chief principal.

These titles do not just come empty-handed. They are laced with handsome salary increments and allowances.

Besides the normal salary increments that come with TSC promotions from one grade to the next, the Commission awards annual salary increments (pay rise) to all TSC-employed teachers including principals(administrators) as follows:
