TEACHERS’ SALARIES: SHOCK AS TSC BOSS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RECOVER ALLOWANCES ERRONEOUSLY PAID TO TEACHERS
Teachers are yet to come to terms with the latest plans by their employer, TSC to recover hefty house and hardship allowances soon.
The commission announced its plan to recover overpayments in house and hardship allowances from the teachers affected.
Wrong Mapping of Teachers Costs Teachers Thousands as TSC Moves to Recover Overpaid House and Hardship Allowances
The Commission has already dispatched letters to the affected teachers citing wrong mapping for its decision.
This, therefore, means that the teachers in question who have been enjoying higher perks than they will have to repay through the nose for an iniquity they are oblivious of.
“The TSC Head office has learned that your school was mapped under a former municipality and earmarked for hardship allowances erroneously,” read the letter sent to one of the teachers, in part.
TSC T-PAY SYSTEM, CHECK-OFF SYSTEM
The affected teachers will hence take pay cuts through the check-off system. This is not the first time the Commission is recovering overpayments. The Commission has already initiated the recovery of wrongly placed classroom teachers who were erroneously mapped as school administrators.
TSC ALLOWANCES PAID TOTEACHERS

It is however important to note that much as these teachers fall in the same grade/ job group, their monthly gross salaries differ depending on the location of their work stations. The same case applies to TSC allowances. For instance, teachers posted to stations listed as TSC Hardship Areas get an extra Sh 10, 900.
Special Needs Teachers, SNE, also get an extra Sh 10, 900.
Teachers in Grade C2, former K earn the same amount of commuter allowance that is Kshs 5, 000.
The Commission also pays a flat rate of Kshs 6, 000 annually as leave allowance in January.
